News Corp: Who’s the all time leader for donations?
Political donations by News Corp., its employees and their families were evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA THE A
LL-TIME LEADING RECIPIENT, according to a report from the Sunlight Foundation.
The transparency watchdog noted Tuesday that DEMOCRATS RECEIVED 51 PERCENT OF CONTRIBUTIONS WHILE REPUBLICANS RECEIVED 49 PERCENT, despite the firm's highly publicized links to the GOP, such as a $1 million donation to the Republican Governors Association in August.
News Corp. is the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and Fox News, among others. The firm is currently under scrutiny in both the U.S. and U.K. over allegations its subsidiary News of the World hacked into voice mail accounts and bribed public officials
This took me by surprise, but certainly lessens the credibility of those who loath Murdoch and his empire.
Obama generated twice as many campaign contributors as new jobs
Here's an interesting couple of numbers that emerged during this past week: According to Jim Messina, his campaign manager, THROUGH THE SECOND QUARTER OF 2011, PRESIDENT OBAMA NOW HAS 552,000 CONTRIBUTORS TO HIS 2012 RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
And the BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS ANNOUNCED THAT DURING THE SAME TWO QUARTERS, THE U.S. ECONOMY GENERATED 260,000 JOBS….
An interesting way to look at it. I wonder if all those new job holders contributed?
Election 2012: Romney 43% Obama 42%
In a very early look at Election 2012, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama are essentially even.
A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey SHOWS ROMNEY ATTRACTING 43% OF THE VOTE WHILE OBAMA EARNS SUPPORT FROM 42%. IN APRIL, OBAMA HELD A FIVE-POINT EDGE OVER ROMNEY. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
This is actually much worse than it looks for Obama. People know who Obama is at this point, so the 15% undecided are likely to split heavily to Romney if he is the GOP nominee.
House GOP passes ill-fated 'cut, cap, and balance' legislation
HOUSE REPUBLICANS ON TUESDAY APPROVED AN AMBITIOUS BUT LEGISLATIVELY ILL-FATED PLAN TO ENACT DEEP SPENDING RESTRAINTS THAT COULD CLEAR THE DECKS FOR A COMPROMISE OVER THE DEBT LIMIT.
The so-called “cut, cap and balance” measure passed on a party-line vote, 234-190, as nine Republicans — including presidential candidates Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and Ron Paul (Texas) — and five Democrats defected.
DEMOCRATS EXCORIATED THE GOP FOR ADVANCING THE BILL, WHICH THE WHITE HOUSE HAS THREATENED TO VETO.
In the meantime, the President’s plan, errr the Democrats plan, Oh that’s right, they don’t have a plan.
Ryan Dissects the Gang of Six Plan
House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), who also sat on President Obama’s deficit commission (and voted against its final report), has released an initial analysis of the $3.7 trillion deficit-reduction proposal unveiled by the Gang of Six on Tuesday. THE PLAN, WHICH RYAN POINTS OUT “IS NOT A BUDGET,” IS WOEFULLY SHORT ON DETAILS (e.g., it instructs Congress to “encourage greater economic growth” and “spend health care dollars more efficiently”), but the House Budget chair does his best to tease out the plan’s shortcomings and unanswered questions, as well as its “potential for worthwhile budget and tax reforms.”
On the positive side, RYAN PRAISES THE PLAN FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THE NEED FOR TAX REFORM AND HE APPROVES OF MANY OF ITS RECOMMENDATIONS, for example: lowering the top marginal tax rate to 29 percent, transitioning to a territorial tax system, and requiring any unexpected surplus in revenue be used to further reduce rates, rather than fuel new spending. However, RYAN ARGUES THAT THE LATTER PROPOSAL, WHILE “LAUDABLE,” FALLS SHORT BECAUSE IT APPEARS TO LACK AN ENFORCEMENT MECHANISM, SUCH AS A FIRM CAP ON TOTAL SPENDING AND REVENUE…..
Democrats seem to be falling all over themselves in praise for this, but the devils in the details. This is a worthwhile read to see what is going on.
MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer’s cheap shot backfires
MSNBC's The Contessa Brewer, you may remember just yesterday said the attack on Rupert Murdoch at a hearing encapsulated what the British were feeling.
Today, THE CONTESSA "EDUCATED" A CONSERVATIVE REPRESENTATIVE THAT IF CONGRESS DOES NOT RAISE THE DEBT RAISING, THE COUNTRY WOULD BE "REVERTING INTO A DEPRESSION." REP. MO BROOKS (R-AL) SAID HE DISAGREED WHICH PROMPTED THE MSNBC HOST TO ASK HIM IF HE HAD A DEGREE IN ECONOMICS.
"Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors," Rep. Brooks responded.
This is not unusual. The Progressive movement defers to expertise unless they don’t like that particular expertise.
The next climate debate bombshell
Get ready for the next big bombshell in the man-made warming debate. The world’s most sophisticated particle study laboratory—CERN IN GENEVA—WILL SOON ANNOUNCE THAT MORE COSMIC RAYS DO, INDEED, CREATE MORE CLOUDS IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE. MORE COSMIC RAYS MEAN A COOLER PLANET. Thus, the solar source of the earth’s long, moderate 1,500-year climate cycle will finally be explained….
….WHEN WILLI DANSGAARD AND HANS OESCHGER DISCOVERED THE 1,500 YEAR CYCLE IN THE GREENLAND ICE CORES IN 1984, THEY KNEW IMMEDIATELY THAT IT WAS SOLAR-POWERED.. …
THE IPCC, FOR ITS PART, ANNOUNCED THAT THE SUN COULD NOT BE THE FORCING FACTOR IN ANY MAJOR CLIMATE CHANGE BECAUSE THE SOLAR IRRADIATION WAS TOO SMALL…
. …THE IPCC APPARENTLY WANTED TO DISMISS THE SUN AS A CLIMATE FACTOR—TO LEAVE ROOM FOR A CO2 FACTOR THAT HAS ONLY A 22 PERCENT CORRELATION WITH OUR PAST THERMOMETER RECORD. Correlation is not causation—but THE LACK OF CO2 CORRELATION IS DEADLY TO THE IPCC THEORY.
HENRIK SVENSMARK OF THE DANISH SPACE RESEARCH INSTITUTE ADDED THE NEXT CHAPTER in the climate cycle story, just before our book was published. HIS CLOUD CHAMBER EXPERIMENT SHOWED NATURAL COSMIC RAYS QUICKLY CREATED VAST NUMBERS OF TINY “CLOUD SEEDS” when our mix of atmospheric gases was bombarded with ultra-violet light. Since clouds often cover 30 percent of the earth’s surface, a MODERATE CHANGE IN CLOUD COVER CLEARLY COULD EXPLAIN THE WARMING/COOLING CYCLE….
…Last year, Denmark’s University of Aarhus did another experiment with a particle accelerator that fully confirmed the Svensmark hypothesis: cosmic rays help to make more clouds and thus could cool the earth.
THE CERN EXPERIMENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BIG TEST OF THE SVENSMARK THEORY. It’s a tipoff, then, that CERN’s boss, Rolf-Dieter Heuer, has just told the German magazine Die Welt that he has forbidden his researchers to “interpret” the forthcoming test results. In other words, the CERN report will be a stark “just the facts” listing of the findings. Those findings must support Svensmark, or Heuer would never have issued such a stifling order on a major experiment.
A big part of the AGW hypothesis is that the warming noted from 1975 to 2000 had no other scientific explanation. However, if the solar wind was powerful (it was) than there would be fewer clouds and hence warmer weather.
