Signs of the coming election

For the record:  What did Obama accuse Romney of

It is worth recollecting the array of attacks from the Obama camp that failed to carry the day. Romney’s approval rating is now higher than Obama’s and the Obama team tried portraying Romney as: 1) the “vulture” capitalist; 2) a tax evader and/or a felon for signing (or not signing) Bain documents after he left to run the Olympics; 3) killer of Joe Soptic’s wife; 4) outsourcer of jobs to China; 5) determined to take contraception away from women; 6) ready to give a tax cut to the rich and hike middle-class taxes; 7) egging on the auto industry’s demise; 8) willing to throw granny over the cliff on Medicare; 9) President George W. Bush’s political twin; and 10) Big Bird terminator.

As Obama explained in 2008, when you don’t have a record to run on, you have to paint your opponent as something to run from.

A sign of Desperation

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is blaming the EPA’s war on coal on Mitt Romney.  It appears the coal miners are making a difference in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Who is Bill Clinton trying to win this election for?

Just watch this and make your own judgment.

A second Obama term?  We can’t afford it

The Electoral Map expands for Romney

The Democrats have to defend blue states.

Is it over?

Bob Beckel says if Gallup’s last poll is correct, it is.

CBS sees Romney ahead among independents

But no candidate has won the White House while losing Independents by a significant margin. Based on this alone, according to a new CBS Poll, Obama is staring at defeat next week.

CBS is out with a new poll of the critical swing states Ohio, Florida, and Virginia. In each, Romney posts significant leads among Independent voters. In Virginia, Romney leads Obama by a massive 21 points among Independents. In OH and FL, he leads by 5-6 points. If this lead holds through election day, he will not lose these states, based on past elections.

Romney also has big leads among those most likely to vote. He wins seniors, the most dependable voting demographic, by 13 points in VA, 11 points in FL and 9 points in OH. Again, if these trends hold, Romney will sweep all three states, according to CBS.

Of course, since this poll was commissioned by CBS, they are downplaying these results.

Miscalculations of the American Left

The American left, the Obama campaign team, the Democratic establishment, and much of the mainstream media are stunned and surprised by the depth of reaction to the exposure of a vapid Barack Obama during the three presidential debates.  Revealed to the world was a man who could not live up to the well-crafted image of one of the most adept, well-liked, and intelligent politicians in American history.  Once deflated, this image could never be rebuilt.  Obama's performance was indicative of an unprepared and unqualified president unable to defend his four years in office or present a cogent plan for the next four.

Further, the Euro-socialist policies eagerly pursued by the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress, which in the hallowed halls of academia and liberal think-tanks always succeed, not only have failed miserably to rescue the economy, but are being soundly rejected by the majority of the populace.  They, unlike the insulated elites, are experiencing the real-life consequences of these actions, in a global and domestic landscape of turmoil, indecision, and uncertainty.

Early voting:  What does it mean?

It hasn't gotten too much attention outside of talk radio, but if accurate, Gallup's study of early voters neutralizes one of the Obama campaign's best road-to-victory talking points. As it conducted tracking polls (which have been paused for now), Gallup asked voters whether they'd cast ballots or intended to before election day.  The early voters broke 52-46 for Mitt Romney. The dawdling voters who would vote before election day were tied, 49-49. The voters waiting for November 6 broke for Romney, again, by a 6-point margin.
This would be easy to explain away if Obama had lagged in 2008's early vote. After all, this study includes votes in Georgia and Texas and other places that have broken away from Obama. But . . . in 2008, Obama was winning this vote. An identical Gallup study taken around the same time gave Obama a 53-43 lead with early voters and a 50-44 lead on voters who would wait for election day.
Remember, "If votes cast on Election Day decided the 2008 election, McCain would have won in Florida, Colorado, North Carolina and Iowa." That's how central the early vote is to Obama's strategy.

Halloween:  Don’t Steal My Candy!

Steve Crowder makes a point about how fair Obama’s tax policies are.

Obama the radical (and we don’t mean Barack)

Michelle Robinson (now Obama) was a member of the board of the TWC.

In November 1984, TWC’s board demanded that non-white students should have the right to bar whites from their meetings on campus. They also demanded minorities-only meetings with the deans. The ban was frankly unnecessary, since whites were made to feel unwelcome at the meetings if they were invited at all, but the TWC continued to press for it, arguing, too, that blacks ought to be able to bar whites from attending events aimed at discussion of “sensitive” racial issues.

Quarter of a Billion Grant creates 408 new jobs

Battery maker A123 Systems vowed thousands of new jobs when it received a nearly quarter-billion-dollar stimulus grant in late 2009, but federal job-tracking figures show only a few hundred positions were created before the company joined a growing list of federally backed energy businesses that ended in bankruptcy.

How Mitt Romney will boost the economy

Second, current economic policy is the reason the economy is in such bad shape. Unfortunately economic policy has consisted mainly of a series of short-term interventions—the stimulus packages, cash for clunkers, temporary payments to state governments and individuals—that have not led to a strong sustainable recovery. At best they produced small short-term economic blips which did not last. Basic economics tells us that such temporary policies do little to stimulate spending. You need more lasting reforms as shown in the recent book Government Policies and the Delayed Economic Recovery (Hoover Institution Press) edited by Lee Ohanian, Ian Wright, and me….

…Here too the defenders of the policies counter with a rosier view. Some say that the fiscal stimulus packages stopped the economic free fall. But this is not what the data show: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed in February 2009, while retail sales, exports and new investment orders ended their sharp free fall in December 2008 or January 2009. The view that the stimulus worked mainly comes from economists who predicted that the stimulus would work before it was passed, and they simply used the same models over again to claim it worked.

ADP has slashed their Employment Number for September

ADP originally said the economy created 162,000 jobs in September.  They have now revised that number down to 88,200.  Economists expect the October numbers that will be released on Friday to come in at 125,000 jobs with the unemployment rate holding steady.  The one thing you can count on is that that prediction is wrong.

The Polls have gone bad for Obama

IBD/TIPP Poll:  Really Bad News for Obama

The latest IBD/TIPP poll has Romney up by 5 points even though the poll has 39% Democrats, 31% Republicans, and 30% Independents.  Among independents, Romney has a 20 point lead.

Democrats, the tax ideologues

It seems Chuck Shumer has rejected the idea of lowering tax rates and eliminating tax loopholes.  He won’t listen to anything but a tax increase.  Now who are the unreasonable ideologues?

Camille Paglia’s pick for President

It’s not Romney or Obama, but the Green Party’sJill Stein.

If the Republican candidate were Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich, I would certainly not be voting Green; I would be voting for and contributing to Obama again, as I did in 2008. … Romney is an affable, successful businessman whose skills seem well-suited to this particular moment of economic crisis. Hence I want to use my vote to make a statement about my unhappiness with the Democratic Party and the direction it has taken.

Ryan’s preparation for tonight’s debate

It appears Paul Ryan uses every spare moment in preparation for his debate with VP Joe Biden.  But this doesn’t appear to be unusual.  If there is one thing his friends and colleagues say about Paul Ryan is that he is always prepared.

Two left wing narratives bite the dust

Last Wednesday can be seen as the moment when two of the narratives currently beloved by the American media gave way to reality.  The first narrative was that Barack Obama is a man of exceptional intelligence and political skill.  Obama is an entirely mediocre politician whose only exceptional skill has been the ability to make gullible liberals feel virtuous by finding him to be such an outstanding fellow.  The second narrative was that successful businesspeople are uniformly greedy and cruel misers with narrow interests, pedestrian minds, suspect motives and limited leadership skills -- unless, of course, they support the progressive agenda, at which time they all become wise visionaries.

I’ve always been perplexed by the second narrative.  It seems that the rich can’t be trusted unless they are progressives when human nature suddenly disappears and the person becomes the secular equivalent of Mother Teresa.

The Private Sector is not doing fine

The numbers have just come out for August and the private sector netted 36,000 new jobs in that month.  This was the lowest gain in three months and less than one half of the original estimate of 96,000 jobs created.

The MSM fails Obama at the first Debate

Or is that the other way around?

It had been the real thing, not a commonplace fling with your generic Democrat, but the love of a lifetime, the genuine article, the sum of all dreams: He was not just a Democrat, he was also a liberal. He was not just a liberal, he also biracial, also multinational; also hip, cool, and clever. He was themselves as they wanted to be. Like them, he was gifted at writing and talking (and, as it turned out, not much beyond that), like them, he stood up for Metro America; like them, he viewed the people outside it with a not-very-measured disdain.

The MSM incestuous relationship with the Democrats

This is an interesting article detailing why Fox is an anathema to so many on the left including the MSM.
Flip on any major news network other than Fox and you’ll be greeted by reports heralding gay marriage, an issue that has failed repeatedly in more than half the states, a generally liberal social world view, Washington compromising jacking up the national debt, and unquestioning acceptance that a poorly produced video on the internet caused our American Ambassador in Libya to die. You’ll probably even get some poo-pooing about excesses of the First Amendment with regards to Coptic Christians and Citizens United, but rarely about pornography or the press itself.

Will Marijuana sink Obama?

It appears that pro-marijuana libertarian candidate GaryJohnson may actually play a factor in the coming election.  In Nevada, Obama leads Romney 51-47.  But when you poll and have Gary Johnson as well, he pulls three percent from Obama and you have 48-47.

If most of the marijuana vote would have gone to Obama, and a portion of those voters go for Johnson, this may have a significant effect in some battleground states.

Did going green contribute to the deaths in Libya?

While security forces were pulled from Libya, in Europe the US was making investments in electric Volts and charging stations.  This was part of the State Department’s efforts to go green.

In fact, at a May 10 gala held at the U.S. embassy in Vienna, the ambassador showcased his new Volts and other green investments as part of the U.S. government’s commitment to “climate change solutions.”

What’s the difference between Watergate and Benghazigate?

As Bill Otis says:

The Administration said they had no actionable intelligence. They had plenty. The Administration said they provided adequate protection. They didn’t, and were told it was inadequate by their own people on the ground.

The Administration, as ever in a rush to apologize to Islam, said the attack was caused by the Internet video. It wasn’t. It was pre-planned as the Jihadist anniversary of 9-11.

The Adminstration says it was a spontaneous mob. But there was neither a mob nor spontaneity.
The Administration says it has crippled al Qadea. It hasn’t; instead, al Qadea not only cripples, but kills our people, including our ambassador. And the Administration persists in each of these lies even today, while an important security officer in Yemen was assassinated on his way to our embassy there.

Perhaps the difference was the Media didn’t try to cover it up?

Congressman Spencer Bachus unmasks Dodd-Frank

A very interesting article rips the cover off the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law.  It appears the law isn’t doing what it set out to do and will be costing us all a lot of money.  I found the admission that the first 224 rules of the 400 in the law will cost 20,000,000 work hours to complete each year was astounding.  The article puts it into perspective in that it took 20 million hours to build the Panama Canal.

Movement in the polls

AAA Barry'd

CU Profs still see a Romney win

According to their updated analysis, Romney isprojected to receive 330 of the total 538 Electoral College votes. President Barack Obama is expected to receive 208 votes -- down five votes from their initial prediction -- and short of the 270 needed to win.

They go on to say their model has a plus or minus 5 states or 28 electoral votes.

Ryan’s biggest Obstacle in his debate with Biden

VP Biden has only a passing acquaintance with the truth.

Why Obama won’t do better in future Debates

Contrary to the liberal screed, it is not Romney who has trouble with the facts, but President Obama.  That is what completely disarmed him in the last debate.  Through his career, no one has been allowed to challenge him on the facts.

To understand how hopeless President Obama's case is, one need only understand economic conditions.  Romney does, and he has the skills to communicate these issues.  Obama cannot deal with the facts, as they all go against him.  That is his problem, and it is insurmountable so long as Romney counters his false claims.

The Upcoming VP Debate

Ryan has not only youth, intelligence, and ideas on his side; Ryan and Romney both have won campaigns in which most of the voters were Democrats and independents.  Biden has no clue how to appeal to anything but the Democrat base.  Moreover, Ryan exudes confidence and optimism.  He is as close to Reagan as Republicans have had in the last quarter-century.  What does Biden exude?  Shopworn clichés and smugness.

NY Times reports:  Debates are something to be endured

Mr. Obama does not like debates to begin with, aides have long said, viewing them as media-driven gamesmanship. He did not do all that well in 2008 but benefited from Senator John McCain’s grumpy performances. Mr. Obama made clear to advisers that he was not happy about debating Mr. Romney, whom he views with disdain. It was something to endure, rather than an opportunity, aides said.
And it showed.

Obama Campaign keeps misquoting Harvey Rosen’s study

You’ve heard President Obama claim that taxes on the middle class would go up if Romney’s tax plan went into effect.   However, the study he uses to back this up doesn’t back up this contention.

I can’t tell exactly how the Obama campaign reached that characterization of my work.  It might be that they assume that Governor Romney wants to keep the taxes from the Affordable Care Act in place, despite the fact that the Governor has called for its complete repeal.  The main conclusion of my study is that under plausible assumptions, a proposal along the lines suggested by Governor Romney can both be revenue neutral and keep the net tax burden on taxpayers with incomesabove $200,000 about the same.  That is, an increase in the tax burden on lower and middle income individuals is not required in order to make the overall plan revenue neutral.

Battleground Poll has Obama up by one

In 2008, President Barack Obama won the independent vote over John McCain by a margin of eight points, 52-44. This morning, a new Battleground Poll has Mitt Romney massacring Obama among indies by a whopping 16 points, 51-35.

That's a 24-point swing among independents since 2008, a group that makes up anywhere from a quarter to a third of voters, and yet Battleground still has Obama in the lead 49-48…?
But if I'm skeptical of those bottom-line numbers, our journalist overlords who have chosen to palace guard instead of question will declare me a "truther."
If the independents equal 33% that means the Democrats would have to outnumber the Republicans by 7% in the demographics.  If the independents equal 25% the Democrats would have to outnumber the Republicans in the poll by 6%.   Considering Democrats have a 13% enthusiasm gap that is highly unlikely.  Romney is ahead, comfortably so.

Gallup:  Romney’s debate win biggest in history

According to a new Gallup Poll of those who watched last week's presidential debate, 72% picked Mitt Romney as the winner, while only 20% thought Barack Obama won.

That’s the biggest win in history (52%), exceeding even Bill Clinton's 42% advantage in his townhall debate over George H.W. Bush (the one where Bush checked his watch).

The numbers on Romney vs. Obama reflect those of snap opinion polls.

According to Gallup, Republicans gave him a 95% win over Obama, Independents picked him, 70%-19%, and even Democrats thought Romney won, 49%-39%.

Democrats attack Romney for his “Whiteness”
This is an attack using “Critical Race Theory” and has been used by a Professor Stephanie Li (an English professor) who has written a hit piece on Romney as the whitest man to run for president.
She avers that "scholars" in this "field" have "demonstrated" that "whiteness" is a "social identity built upon unearned entitlements."  Demonstrated!  Like physicists have demonstrated quantum theory!
Li quotes another race theorist, one Peggy McIntosh, who claims that "whiteness" is "an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks."  Li does not indicate the evidence McIntosh offers for this bizarre claim.
What is truly “convenient” is that Romney is running against the first African American President who if someone claimed some kind of social identity built upon unearned entitlements would be labeled racist.

Mitt Romney and Women

Amazingly, most women don’t know that Mitt had women at his side helping him turn around the Olympics in Salt Lake and fix the economy in Massachusetts.  It doesn’t surprise me because I know how Mitt puts together his team.  He hires the strongest talent he can find, so naturally he ends up with a lot of women.  Mitt says he hires people who will “go through walls” to get the job done; the women who have worked with him over the years definitely fit that description.   I worked with him for nine years and can tell you that my colleagues in Salt Lake and Massachusetts are as talented and incredible as any group of women in America.

Mitt was recognized every year he was Governor for having more women in Cabinet and senior positions than any other Governor in the country.

First rate leaders hire first rate people.  Second rate leaders hire third rate people.

What would a second Obama term bring?  Tax Serfdom

It appears there is a new push by big cities to “share the wealth” meaning tax revenues from surrounding suburbs and using federal money to entice or blackmail the suburbs to agree.  The name for this takeover is “regionalism.”

Romney campaigns fights back

This rebuffs Obama’s claim Romney’s tax plan would cut taxes by $5 trillion and would result in a tax increase on the middle class.

Libyan US Officials wanted more security but it was decreased

Lt. Col. Wood has told CBS News and congressional investigators that his 16-member team and a six-member State Department elite force called a Mobile Security Deployment team left Libya in August, just one month before the Benghazi assault. Wood says that's despite the fact that US officials in Libya wanted security increased, not decreased.

Britain’s NHS:  The Future of Obamacare?

The Office for National Statistics figures also showed that:

* as well as 43 people who starved to death, 287 people were recorded by doctors as being malnourished when they died in hospitals;

* there were 558 cases where doctors recorded that a patient had died in a state of severe dehydration in hospitals;

* 78 hospital and 39 care home patients were killed by bedsores, while a further 650 people who died had their presence noted on their death certificates;

* 21,696 were recorded as suffering from septicemia when they died, a condition which experts say is most often associated with infected wounds.

This isn’t what the left tells you about when they hold up Europe as enlightened in their healthcare system
