Closing statements

Revenge vs Love of Country

Desperation in politics has an ugly face.  Obama calls voting the best revenge.  He actually may be prophetic with that comment (ask any broken glass Republican).

The Closing arguments

Romney’s words vs Obama’s broken promises.

When the only thing you have left is fear itself

Obama has put out an ad which imagines the horror of a Romney presidency.  The signs of desperation are on the air.

The Enthusiasm Gap

The enthusiasm edge is all GOP.

In Cincinnati a crowd of 30,000 gather to see Romney.  AP reporter Steve Peoples tries to minimize the numbers and say there was low energy.

Meanwhile Bill Clinton finds a small crowd (1900) in Perrysburg, Ohio.  As Mary Katharine Ham said:
Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I expected far more people and more excitement for Bill Clinton. This is the rock star, in northern Ohio, 10 minutes from an auto plant, where Obama’s support for the auto industry bailout is supposed to carry the state into the blue column.

Romney garners the most newspaper endorsements

To date, twenty-eight large newspapers have decided to drop their endorsement record with President Obama and put their chips all in on Romney.  The blunt explanations for their decisions often gives way to some blistering critiques of the president, leaving the reader no doubt why these papers lost their faith over the last four years.

According to Editor & Publisher, Republican Mitt Romney is stunning the newspaper world, earning 112 endorsements from editorial boards around the country compared to the President’s 84.  Most large market newspapers like the The New York Times and The Washington Post have stuck with Obama, but have ran less than glowing assessments of his accomplishments.  So while a newspaper endorsement may not mean what it once did, these conversions could be telling of a national trend.

Barone Picks Romney

Bottom line: Romney 315, Obama 223. That sounds high for Romney. But he could drop Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and still win the election. Fundamentals.

Video:  PJTV predicts the election

Find out what Stephen Green, Stephen Kruiser and Bill Whittle think.

NYTimes: Pennsylvania is in play

Over the last several days, with polls showing Mr. Obama’s edge in the state narrowing, Republicans have sprung into action and forced the Democrats to spend resources here that could have gone toward more competitive battleground states.

Conservative super PACs dusted off old advertisements that had not been shown in weeks and shipped them to local television stations from Scranton to Pittsburgh. They ordered millions of dollars in airtime.

And overnight the race here became the most expensive test yet of whether Republicans and their armies of cash-flush outside groups could unsettle the race at the last minute.

Ohio Union Members caught stealing Romney signs

I used to live in Perrysburg.  Lock ‘em up.

Catholic for Obama event draws 45 people

The Obama campaign attempted to schedule a rally-like event on a Catholic university campus in the key swing state of Colorado before settling on a dialogue with a co-chair of Catholics for Obama.

“Their original intent was to have more of a rally element to it,” said Paul Alexander, director of Regis University's Institute for the Common Good, which hosted the event.

“We just felt we couldn’t do a rally, but we felt a healthy dialogue among Catholics was important.”

About 45 people attended the Oct. 25 dialogue and small group discussion with Catholics for Obama national co-chair Nicholas P. Cafardi, a law professor and dean emeritus of Duquesne University School of Law.

Obama:  Just vote for MEEEEE!!!

“I’ve said I will work with anybody of any party to move this country forward,” President Obama told a crowd of 2,800 this morning in Hilliard, Ohio. “If you want to break the gridlock in Congress, you’ll vote for leaders who feel the same way whether they’re Democrat, Republican or independent.”

All Jacket and no bombers

Back in Benghazi, the president who looks so cool in a bomber jacket declined to answer his beleaguered diplomats’ calls for help – even though he had aircraft and Special Forces in the region. Too bad. He’s all jacket and no bombers. This, too, is an example of America’s uniquely profligate impotence. When something goes screwy at a ramshackle consulate halfway round the globe, very few governments have the technological capacity to watch it unfold in real time. Even fewer have deployable military assets only a couple of hours away. What is the point of unmanned drones, of military bases around the planet, of elite Special Forces trained to the peak of perfection if the president and the vast bloated federal bureaucracy cannot rouse themselves to action? What is the point of outspending Russia, Britain, France, China, Germany and every middle-rank military power combined if, when it matters, America cannot urge into the air one plane with a couple of dozen commandoes? In Iraq, al-Qaida is running training camps in the western desert. In Afghanistan, the Taliban are all but certain to return most of the country to its pre-9/11 glories. But in Washington the head of the world’s biggest “counterterrorism” bureaucracy briefs the president on flood damage and downed trees.

I don’t know whether Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can fix things, but I do know that Barack Obama and Joe Biden won’t even try – and that therefore a vote for Obama is a vote for the certainty of national collapse. Look at Lower Manhattan in the dark, and try to imagine what America might look like after the rest of the planet decides it no longer needs the dollar as global reserve currency. For four years, we have had a president who can spend everything but build nothing. Nothing but debt, dependency, and decay. As I said at the beginning, in different ways the response to Hurricane Sandy and Benghazi exemplify the fundamental unseriousness of the superpower at twilight. Whether or not to get serious is the choice facing the electorate Tuesday.
But let him keep the bomber jacket.

What’s the difference between Sandy and Katrina

"We'regoing to die! We're going to freeze! We got 90-year-old people!" Donna Solli told visiting officials. "You don't understand. You gotta get your trucks down here on the corner now. It's been three days!"

The difference is you actually read about the suffering in Katrina.

Media coverage:  Is it biased?  Is the Pope Catholic?

Sandy’s aftermath:  How many voters will skip voting for Obama?

Talk about ham handed, Mayor Bloomberg finally cancels the marathon.  I don’t think his endorsement of Barack Obama will cause a bunch of people in the cold and in the dark to rush out to vote for Obama.  Probably just the opposite.

The forgiving Obama voter

Yet they'll forgive this president for blasting a smoking $4,500 hole in their household income, and presiding over the doubling of gas prices while throwing useless billions at his green energy fantasy -- no problem.  The Obama voters don't seem to mind that he's got another $1.9 trillion planned in new taxes which will cripple their livelihoods and the larger economy.  They laugh off a national debt of $6 trillion in less than four years -- who cares that debt will drag their kids and grandkids future down into the hole of punishing taxes and depleted incomes to pay it back?  Give the president a second chance?  Heck yes!

Obama’s record on jobs

"Simply put, the President's policies have not produced jobs. During his time in office, 14.7 million people were added to the food stamp rolls. Over that same time, only 194,000 jobs were created -- thus 76 people went on food stamps for every one that found a job. This is a product of low growth. Post-recession economic growth in 2010 was 2.4%, and dropped in 2011 to 1.8%. This year it has dropped again to 1.77%. Few, if any, net jobs will be created with growth of less than 2%."

Benghazi?  What Benghazi?

As the BigThree's evening newscasts ignored the latest in the controversy over the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya for 7 straight days, their morning shows aren't doing much better. On Friday, ABC's Good Morning America and CBS This Morning together devoted less than two minutes of air time - 1 minute, 50 seconds - to the ambush that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American military veterans.

Benghazi—the plot thickens

Fox News has learned that US military intelligence was reporting as early as 7pm Eastern -- less than four hours after the attack began -- that Ansar al Sharia carried out the attack.  The intelligence was relayed to the military with no caveats, according to a source familiar with the intelligence.  Further, two State Department cables show that Stevens' team warned Washington...US intelligence officials confirm to Fox that in fact there were reports from the ground in Benghazi three hours before the attack on the consulate that a Libyan militia was gathering weapons and gathering steam.

Atlas Shrugging?

Home Depot Co-Founder Blasts Obama
IBD: What's the single biggest impediment to job growth today?

Marcus: THE U.S. GOVERNMENT. Having built a small business into a big one, I can tell you that TODAY THE IMPEDIMENTS THAT THE GOVERNMENT IMPOSES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH. HOME DEPOT WOULD NEVER HAVE SUCCEEDED IF WE'D TRIED TO START IT TODAY. Every day you see rules and regulations from a group of Washington bureaucrats who know nothing about running a business. And I mean every day. It's become stifling.

If you're a small businessman, the only way to deal with it is to work harder, put in more hours, and let people go. When you consider that something like 70% of the American people work for small businesses, you are talking about a big economic impact.

IBD: President Obama has promised to streamline and eliminate regulations. What's your take?

Marcus: HIS SPEECHES ARE WONDERFUL. HIS OUTPUT IS ABSOLUTELY, INCREDIBLY BAD. As he speaks about cutting out regulations, they are now producing thousands of pages of new ones. With just ObamaCare by itself, you have a 2,000 page bill that's probably going end up being 150,000 pages of regulations.

IBD: If you could sit down with Obama and talk to him about job creation, what would you say?

Marcus: I'M NOT SURE OBAMA WOULD UNDERSTAND ANYTHING THAT I'D SAY, because he's never really worked a day outside the political or legal area. HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A PAYROLL, HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEMS BUSINESSES FACE. I would try to explain that the plight of the businessman is very reactive to Washington. As Washington piles on regulations and mandates, the impact is tremendous. I don't think he's a bad guy. I just think he has no knowledge of this.

Second day in a row, Obama gets an F from a business person. You don’t have to be a psychic to tell who won’t win a second term in November 2012.

The Fear based Economy

Finally, someone has publicly said what everyone has long known.

On Monday, during his company’s second quarter earnings call with investors, Wynn Resorts CEO STEPHEN WYNN ENDED THE THREE-YEAR TRUTH EMBARGO OVER WHO IS HOLDING BACK THE U.S. ECONOMY.

In July 2008, yours truly christened the economic conditions America began facing roughly a month earlier as the POR (Pelosi-Obama-Reid) Economy, named after its primary creators: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. In a comment at that original post, I noted that the economy’s job and wealth creators were “genuinely frightened by the lack of seriousness and presence of abject irresponsibility in Congress and in Obama.”

THIS FRIGHT WENT VIRAL LONG AGO BUT REMAINED WHISPERED IN CAREFULLY CHOSEN COMPANY UNTIL WYNN BROKE THE SILENCE. When an earnings call participant asked why his firm hasn’t expanded its meeting space in Las Vegas, Wynn responded:

I’M AFRAID TO DO ANYTHING IN THE CURRENT POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT IN THE UNITED STATES.

… my customers and the companies that provide the vitality for the hospitality and restaurant industry, in the United States of America, they are frightened of this administration. And it makes you slow down and not invest your money.

… THIS IS OBAMA’S DEAL, AND IT’S OBAMA THAT’S RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS FEAR IN AMERICA.

Why shouldn’t the economy’s key players be afraid? In 2-1/2 years, Barack Obama and his administration have shown that they will do anything in their power — even if not in their constitutional power — to further their far-left redistributionist and science-free environmental goals. IF IT MEANS SUBVERTING THE RULE OF LAW TO FAVOR BANKRUPT UNION-DOMINATED CAR COMPANIES, SO BE IT. IF IT MEANS SHUTTING DOWN OIL DRILLING AND EXPLORATION IN THE GULF OF MEXICO AND RESTORING IT IN SLOW MOTION AT A COST OF TENS OF THOUSANDS OF JOBS, WELL, THAT’S UNFORTUNATE COLLATERAL DAMAGE. IF IT MEANS REVOKING AN ALREADY-ISSUED PERMIT FOR COAL MINING, TOO BAD, SO SAD….

http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/the-fear-based-economy/

The truth is bubbling to the surface. 2012 may make the 2010 look like a walk in the park for the Democrats.

Other Business Leaders Speaking Out

3M's George Buckley, who blasted Obama last February as anti-business. "WE KNOW WHAT HIS INSTINCTS ARE," BUCKLEY SAID. "We've got a real choice between manufacturing in Canada or Mexico - which tends to be more pro-business - and America," he told the Financial Times.
Boeing's Jim McNerney, who in the Wall Street Journal last May called Obama's handpicked National Labor Relations Board's suit against his company a "FUNDAMENTAL ASSAULT ON THE CAPITALIST PRINCIPLES THAT HAVE SUSTAINED AMERICA'S COMPETITIVENESS SINCE IT BECAME THE WORLD'S LARGEST ECONOMY NEARLY 140 YEARS AGO."

Intel's Paul Otellini, who told CNET last August that the U.S. legal environment has become so hostile to business that there is likely to be "AN INEVITABLE EROSION AND SHIFT OF WEALTH, MUCH LIKE WE'RE SEEING TODAY IN EUROPE - THIS IS THE BITTER TRUTH."

It appears Atlas is awakening. Will he shrug anytime soon?

Obama predicts his record will decide the election

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he'll be re-elected for a second term if voters feel like he's been on their side, working as hard as he can and getting things done.
"IF THEY DON'T," THE PRESIDENT SAID, "THEN I'LL LOSE."

The blunt political assessment from Obama cast next year's presidential contest as a referendum on his leadership rather than a choice between him and whoever his GOP opponent will be…..

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700164678/Obama-says-election-assessment-of-his-leadership.html

At last something I agree with Obama on. I’ve said before, I’d vote for Donald Duck against BHO. But imagine if you are a liberal how this must make you feel. Their strategy depends on making the Republican nominee the issue.

Young Hispanics skeptical of big government

An outfit called Generation Opportunity (which boasts 842,000 friends on its “Being American” Facebook page) commissioned an online poll of adults age 18 to 29 in April from the Polling Company/Woman Trend Inc. THE MOST INTERESTING RESULTS ARE FROM YOUNG HISPANICS. THEY PREFERRED “REDUCING FEDERAL SPENDING” TO “RAISING TAXES ON INDIVIDUALS” IN ORDER TO “BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET” BY 1 69%-27% MARGIN. Of these young Hispanics, 57% agreed that “if taxes on business profits were reduced, companies would be more likely to hire” and 56% agreed that “the economy grows best when individuals are allowed to create businesses without government interference.”…

http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/07/young-hispanics-skeptical-big-government#ixzz1SkYg5LFT

Obama appears to be the Jimmy Carter of this age. Carter’s disastrous presidency soured a generation of young people in the 1980s to the Democrat Party. It appears that Obama may be doing that as well to the 2010 generation.

Murdock, Hacking, and Hypocrisy in the News Media

In December 1996, a Florida couple, John and Alice Martin, who sounded suspiciously like union goons, claimed to have inadvertently tapped into a phone conversation between then House Speaker Newt Gingrich and House Republican leadership.

According to these Democratic and union activists, THEY WERE JUST DRIVING AROUND WITH A POLICE SCANNER IN THEIR CAR, PICKED UP A RANDOM PHONE CONVERSATION AND SAID TO THEMSELVES, "WAIT A MINUTE! I COULD SWEAR THAT'S DICK ARMEY'S VOICE!"

LUCKILY, THEY ALSO HAD A TAPE RECORDER AND CASSETTE IN THEIR CAR, so they proceeded to illegally record the intercepted conversation and then turned the tape over to Democratic Rep. James McDermott -- the top Democrat on the Ethics Committee that was at that very moment investigating Gingrich.

ALTHOUGH THEY SWORE THEY HAD NO IDEA THAT WHAT THEY WERE DOING WAS A CRIME, IN THEIR COVER LETTER TO MCDERMOTT, THEY REQUESTED IMMUNITY -- just as you probably do whenever you write somebody a letter. (They later pleaded guilty to a crime under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.)

MCDERMOTT PROMPTLY TURNED THE TAPE OVER TO THE NEW YORK TIMES and other newspapers. The Times' headline on the story, "Gingrich Is Heard Urging Tactics in Ethics Case," might as well have been titled: "TAPE SHOWS GINGRICH CONSPIRING TO ACT WITHIN THE LAW."

John Boehner, one of the participants in the Gingrich call, sued McDermott for violating his First Amendment rights, which resulted in A COURT ORDERING MCDERMOTT TO PAY BOEHNER MORE THAN $1 MILLION.

And yet, more than a dozen news organizations, many of the same ones demanding the death penalty for Rupert Murdoch right now, FILED AMICUS BRIEFS DEFENDING MCDERMOTT'S DISTRIBUTION OF THE PIRATED TAPE.

Hypocrisy isn’t confined to one side of the aisle. It happens on both, but the left likes to pretend they don’t do it (kind of hypocritical in itself).

BBC isn’t Bias enough claims Dr. Steve Jones

….Sometimes, in his enthusiasm to put all these evil “deniers” in their place, Dr Jones appears to forget the basic rules of science altogether. For example, HE DESCRIBES HOW MEASURED LEVELS OF ATMOSPHERIC C02 HAVE INCREASED SINCE 1959, AND HOW “BASIC PHYSICS SHOW THAT CARBON DIOXIDE IS A GREENHOUSE GAS” AND HOW “THREE INDEPENDENT SETS OF RECORDS OF GLOBAL TEMPERATURE AGREE THAT 2010 WAS ONE OF THE THREE HOTTEST YEARS SINCE FIGURES WERE FIRST COLLECTED.” Dr Jones might be surprised to learn the “deniers” agree with him on this. Where they differ is over a fundamental scientific concept: “CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION.” We are, remember, emerging from the Little Ice Age. So the rise in global temperatures is perfectly explicable in terms of natural climatic cycles. Furthermore, you could reasonably argue that the theory of anthropogenic CO2 as a driver of catastrophic global warming has already been “falsified” (or, as I prefer to think of it, torpedoed below the waterline, hit in the magazine and blown out of the sea). That’s because, as even THE GREAT DR PHIL JONES OF THE CRU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED, “GLOBAL WARMING” STOPPED IN 1998 (EVEN AS ANTHROPOGENIC CO2 LEVELS, NOTABLY IN CHINA) CONTINUED TO RISE.

Another category error Dr Jones falls into is in his use of the ARGUMENTUM AD VERECUNDIAM, the appeal to authority. He tells us:

The IPCC concluded that it is beyond doubt that the climate is warming and more than 90% likely that this has been driven by human activity.

And he cites an open letter to the journal Science by two hundred and fifty members of the US National Academy of Sciences:

“(T)here is compelling, comprehensive, and consistent objective evidence that humans are changing the climate in ways that threaten our societies and the ecosystems on which we depend.”
But as both Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn could have explained to Dr Jones, SCIENCE DOES NOT ADVANCE THROUGH “CONSENSUS”; and as Einstein could have told him, science is not a numbers game. WHEN HITLER COMMISSIONED THE BOOK 100 AUTHORS AGAINST EINSTEIN, EINSTEIN COOLLY REPLIED THAT IF HE WERE WRONG, ONE AUTHOR WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH….

….AS BIASED BBC NOTES, IT HAS BEEN FIVE YEARS SINCE THE BBC OFFICIALLY ABANDONED ALL PRETENCE THAT IT WAS ADOPTING A NEUTRAL POSITION ON “CLIMATE CHANGE”. In a 2007 BBC Trust policy report, it wrote:

The BBC has held a high level seminar with some of the best scientific experts (on whose and what measurement) and has come to the view that the weight of evidence no longer justifies equal space being given to the opponents of consensus….

…..DR JONES NOTES WITH CONCERN BRITAIN’S GROWING SKEPTICISM:
A poll carried out by the Cardiff University Understanding Risk Group in early 2010 showed in contrast that one in seven among the British public said that the climate is not changing and one in five that any climate change was not due to human activity. Fewer than half considered that scientists agree that humans are causing climate change.

THE CONCLUSION, HOWEVER, HE DRAWS FROM THIS IS NOT THAT THIS IS A FAIR REFLECTION OF THE LACK OF EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT CAGW THEORY – BUT THAT MEDIA ORGANISATIONS LIKE THE BBC AREN’T DOING ENOUGH TO PROMOTE THE “CORRECT” VERSION OF REALITY. “The divergence between the views of professionals versus the public may be seen as evidence of a failure by the media to balance views of very different credibility. The BBC is just one voice but so many in Britain gain their understanding of science from its output that its approach to this question must be considered.”

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100098066/bbcs-biased-climate-science-reporting-isnt-biased-enough-claims-report/

A well written article but with a couple of flaws. While scientists talk about 2010 being the warmest year on record, even by their numbers it was .05 degrees warmer than 1998 which is beyond the accuracy of the readings making up the number. And that temperature is very much questionable.

James Hansen is the director of GISS. Hansen is an outspoken advocate of man-made global warming. Hansen recently stated that “THE 12 MONTH RUNNING MEAN GLOBAL TEMPERATURE IN THE GISS ANALYSIS HAS REACHED A NEW RECORD IN 2010. THE MAIN FACTOR IS OUR ESTIMATED TEMPERATURE CHANGE FOR THE ARCTIC REGION.”

There is a MAJOR PROBLEM WITH HOW GISS MEASURES TEMPERATURE IN THE ARCTIC. THEY DON’T HAVE ANY THERMOMETERS THERE! Despite this complete lack of accurate information, GISS shows that the ARCTIC NORTH OF EIGHTY DEGREES LATITUDE WAS UP TO FOUR DEGREES WARMER THAN THE LONG TERM AVERAGE.

New hope for heart disease

The revolutionary technique could transform the lives of ¬many thousands of people in Britain with ailing hearts.

Scientists have found a way to make hearts beat stronger and to even overcome the damage caused by previous heart attacks. The gene injection takes just 12 weeks to start working….

….It works by raising levels of a calcium-controlling protein in the diseased heart muscle cell to normal. A gene – called S100A1 – makes the protein which is vital for regulating the heart’s contraction. Research has shown that, in heart failure patients, the protein is massively depleted.

In the new study, researchers at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, US, injected the gene into pigs with heart failure. Twelve weeks later, the protein created by S100A1 had improved their heart function….

We live in an exciting age.

Liberal insanity

First we have this

WITH AN OPPRESSIVE HEAT COMES THE IMMEDIATE DEMAND FOR RELIEF — and Con Edison, the electrical utility for the New York City area, is the first one to hear those pleas from the humid masses.

A sustained heat wave means the utility sees a marked spike in electricity usage from homes and businesses. With no relief in sight — Friday’s temperatures will feel worse than Thursdays — CON EDISON OFFICIALS ARE BRACING FOR WHAT IS LIKELY TO BE A SERIES OF OUTAGES AROUND THE CITY.

http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011/07/21/con-ed-braces-for-outages-as-heat-wave-continues/?mod=google_news_blog

Then we have this story

NEW YORK CITY MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG SAID HE WILL DONATE $50 MILLION TO THE SIERRA CLUB, AN ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCACY GROUP, TO PROMOTE THE ORGANIZATION’S FIGHT AGAINST COAL-FIRED POWER PLANTS.
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/07/21/bloomberg-gives-sierra-club-50-million-to-fight-coal-plants/

So we have NYC facing rolling blackout even while it’s mayor funds an organization lobbying to stop the building of power plants that could avoid the blackouts. Don’t let anyone tell you that liberals are on your side. They’re there to do what they consider is best for you.

The Best of the Election Campaign so Far

Best Political Ad

Best Commentary on why to vote Republican

http://www.weeklystandard.com/print/articles/they-hate-our-guts_511739.html

THIS IS NOT AN ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 2. THIS IS A RESTRAINING ORDER. Power has been trapped, abused and exploited by Democrats. Go to the ballot box and put an end to this abusive relationship. And let’s not hear any nonsense about letting the Democrats off if they promise to get counseling.

NPR—Nonpartisan?
Washington-based NPR said the firing was the culmination of a long series of run-ins with Williams in which he was warned to stick to news analysis and not veer into personal opinions or inflammatory commentary. NPR executives have also said they have been concerned that Fox News has used Williams, an avowedly liberal analyst, to paint NPR itself as a liberal news organization rather than a nonpartisan one.

Two points here. DOES ANYONE REALLY CONSIDER NPR NONPARTISAN especially after this firing? Second, does NPR really consider Williams saying that he gets “nervous” when he sees people in full muslim garb on a plane “inflammatory.”

Here’s column from Jonathon Alder at Newsweek. HOPE AND CHANGE SEEMS TO HAVE MORPHED INTO FEAR AND LOATHING.
Let’s say you’re an independent voter who wants to send Obama a message on Nov. 2. Have the media told you what that would say? Here’s a clue: MODERATE REPUBLICANS ARE EXTINCT. With big wins, the TEA Party will transform itself from an insurgency into the driving force within the GOP. Gains in statehouses and legislatures will allow right-wingers to use the 2010 census to redraw district lines that will entrench them in power until 2020. Back in charge in Washington, THEY WILL LIKELY BLOCK EVEN CENTRIST CHOICES FOR COURTS. Extremist senators like Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn will move from being irritants on the fringe to players at the center of our politics.

A question for Democrats disinclined to work on congressional campaigns: do you know the GOP agenda? In brief: repeal health-care reform, so if you lose your job and your kid gets sick, YOU MAY HAVE TO SELL THE HOUSE;

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/10/23/alter-midterms-matter.html

RCP and the HOUSE
Latest change at RCP and the battle for the House of Representatives include FOUR DISTRICTS THAT HAVE ALL CHANGED FOR THE BETTER FOR REPUBLICANS. All of these have gone from toss ups to leans Republicans.

Overall the RCP has 220 Republican seats that are safe, likely or leaning to the GOP, 178 Democrat seats in those categories and 37 toss ups. If these stay as they are now, the GOP wins the House without having to take even one of the 37 toss up seats. If the Republicans would take all the toss up seats (not likely, but it will give you an idea of the magnitude of their victory) they would take a net 78 seats from the Democrats. If they would take half the seats, they would net 60 to 61 seats.

NYTimes—G.O.P. poised to seize the House if not the Senate
After months of every sign signaling a huge change in the coming election, we are seeing even liberal media starting to admit the truth; goodbye Speaker Pelosi.

President Obama campaigned for a fourth consecutive day on Saturday as THE DEMOCRAT PARTY THREW ITS FULL WEIGHT INTO PREVENTING A DEFEAT OF HISTORIC PROPORTIONS in an election shaped by a sour economy, intense debate over the White House’s far-reaching domestic agenda and the rise of a highly energized grass-roots conservative movement.

But Republicans have placed enough seats into play that Democrats now seem likely to give up many of the gains they made in the last two election cycles, leaving Washington on the brink of a substantial shift in the balance of power.

Even Obama is losing hope
There is no doubt that this is going to be a difficult election,” Obama told a crowd of roughly 8,000 enthusiastic supporters at the University of Minnesota.

At a fundraising dinner after the rally in Minneapolis, Obama was frank with the 100 attendees who paid between $2,500 and $50,000 to attend.

“I’ve got to admit, Mr. President, sometimes over the last couple of years, with all the negative ads and all the money that’s been pouring in, all the filibustering and obstruction in Congress, sometimes I JUST START LOSING ALTITUDE, START LOSING HOPE,” Obama said. “It just seems like change is so hard to bring about.”

Reminds me of a skit that was on Saturday Night Live during the democrat primaries in 2008.

James Carville Contests View Anger At Obama Is Racist

When I see this, I BECOME MORE AND MORE CONVINCED, HILLARY IS PLANNING ON RUNNING AGAINST OBAMA. The technique is called inoculation and Carville appears to be inoculating Hillary against charges of racism for her run.
For well over a year, the media have been unashamedly claiming the anti-Obama sentiments sweeping the nation are all because the President is black.

According to Howard Kurtz, former Clinton adviser James Carville told Saturday's Innovators Summit in New Orleans that this is all nonsense:

The onetime Clinton strategist SCOFFED AT SUGGESTIONS THAT THERE'S AN UNUSUALLY FIERCE ANGER AT OBAMA in the country, and that some of it is race-related. In 1998, when Bill Clinton was in the process of getting himself impeached, Carville says people would come over and yell at him in airports.

How the Press handles Democrat mistakes
Does the MSM have a liberal bias? Is the Pope Catholic?
When a Democrat or leftist makes an ill-advised remark, it seems that there's a three-stage process at the Associated Press, and perhaps in most other establishment press outlets, for handling it. It goes roughly like this:

• Stage 1 - Ignore it as long as you can. If there isn't much outcry, keep ignoring it.

• Stage 2 - If there ends up being enough of an outcry from conservatives or Republicans to warrant coverage, make sure that the story is about the criticism at least as much as the remark.

• Stage 3 - In the ensuing coverage, leave out what was originally said.

Bleak Midterms for Democrats are coming

Official Seal of the Democrat Party
Democrats abandon House progressives

As the election nears, the party throws its weight behind unreliable centrists

Grasping to keep control of Congress, Democratic leaders are turning their backs on some of their staunchest supporters in the House and propping up stronger candidates who have routinely defied them on health care, climate change and other major issues.

Raw politics -- the drive to win a House-majority 218 seats, no matter how -- is increasingly trumping policy and loyalty in these decisions, as Democrats shift money and attention in the closing days of the campaign toward races they can win and pull back from those seemingly lost.

The Democrats are shelling out $40 million in 59 congressional districts in the last three weeks of the campaign for TV advertising. Republicans, boosted by well-funded outside groups, are working to expand the political battleground by pouring money into 82 races next week alone.
If you want to know how the election is going, you need to read articles like these. The money is with the Republicans as well as the polls.

Democrats and Obama in a fight of their lives

Barack Obama hit the campaign trail again today in a desperate effort to save Democrats facing a Republican avalanche in next month's mid-term elections.

An Associated Press poll published today showed a quarter of those surveyed who had backed Obama in the 2008 White House election were considering voting Republican. Obama, addressing a crowd of 10,000 in Boston yesterday, acknowledged the problem. "There is no doubt that this a difficult election. That's because we've been through an incredibly difficult time as a nation," he said.

The Democrats, accepting political reality, are cancelling millions in advertising planned for Congressional candidates they no longer believe are capable of winning, and transferring the cash to shore up seats previously regarded as safe Democratic.

More of the same as the previous article.

President Obama’s faithful losing hope as the magic fades

Sometimes embellishing a story doesn’t help it or you. What’s the old saying? Sometimes it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Barack Obama offered up this metaphor yesterday: America’s a car that Republicans drove into a ditch.

Then along came Obama and the Democrats. “We put our boots on and went down into the ditch, and we started pushing that car out,” the president told the cheering crowd. “It was hot down there and muddy, but we kept on pushing. And every once in a while we looked up and the Republicans are standing up there tanning themselves, sipping Slurpees, and we say, ‘Hey, are you gonna help?’ ”

But the Republicans told us, said Obama, “You’re not pushing the right way.”

You’re not pushing the right way.

I don’t think the president meant to undermine anybody’s confidence with his wrong-way-out-of-the-ditch story yesterday. But that’s the nagging question — isn’t it? Even among the once-Obamified, like me? We’re afraid he’s not really getting us out of our ditch. And the ditch is getting deeper. And it’s very scary stuff

Poll: Those craving for change now look to the GOP

More nails in the Democrat coffin. Now it looks like a lot of Obamaniacs are defecting.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's winning coalition from 2008 has crumbled and his core backers are dispirited. It's now Republicans who stand to benefit from an electorate that's again craving change.

Nearly two years after putting Obama in the White House, one-quarter of those who voted for the Democrat are defecting to the GOP or considering voting against the party in power this fall. Just half of them say they definitely will show up Nov. 2, according to an Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll released two weeks before Obama's first midterm elections.

Yet in a reflection of broad dissatisfaction with politics, just as many people who backed Republican presidential nominee John McCain are either supporting Democrats now or still considering how to vote.

Still, McCain voters — to borrow Obama's campaign rallying cry — are far more "fired up, ready to go." Two-thirds say they are certain to vote next month.

Obama: Dems are in trouble because Americans aren't thinking clearly

I remember watching a movie HEAD OFFICE that was a spoof on Big Business. In it one characters, Howard Gross, was good at only one thing: denying responsibility for any actions his department took. This story reminds me of his saying, “It’s not my fault. It’s not my fault.”

At a Saturday-evening fundraiser held in the home of a wealthy Massachusetts hospital executive, President Obama suggested Democrats are having difficulties in midterm campaigning because Americans simply aren't thinking clearly. Seeking to explain his party's troubles, the president focused not on controversial legislation like national health care and the stimulus but on evolutionary psychology. "Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now, and facts and science and argument do not seem to be winning the day all the time, is because we're hard-wired not to always think clearly when we're scared," Obama told the assembled Democrats, who paid $15,200 a person to attend. "And the country is scared."

To "break through the fear and the frustration that people are feeling right now," Obama told the crowd, will require high-end donors not just to "write checks" but also to "lift up people's spirits and make sure that they're not reacting just to fear."
It appears to me that Obama and the Democrats are reacting to fear of the voters right now.
