Ryan energizes the campaign

What’s New Today

Story # 1 and #2 are today’s signs of desperation by the Obama Administration.  #3 and #4 are stories of Paul Ryan.  It appears he’s making a difference already.  #5 looks at Medicare.  Expect to read a lot about it with lies and half-truths coming from the current administration. #6 is about the greens finally telling the truth.  They are opposed to any kind of energy.

Today’s Thoughts

Paul Ryan represents Obama’s most horrifying nightmare: Math.”

Democrats seem to be happy with Romney’s pick as they consider Ryan to be an extremist on budget issues.  Since when is balancing a budget and extremist view?

1.   Signs of Desperation

Email from Joe Biden:

“Starting now, we can expect even more wealthy, right-wing ideologues lining up to support the Romney-Ryan ticket”

The people on the other side who are trying to buy this election are putting nasty, deceptive TV ads on the air right this very minute. They're not going away. They're getting worse.

If we don't do what we can to keep this close, right now at this crucial moment, we risk letting the other side run away with it.

"Keep this close?" I say. "They're posing as if they think they are already behind."…

They know they are in trouble.

2.  Signs of Desperation part 2

Romney did a great job responding to a heckler, then turned it on Obama telling him to get his campaign out of the gutter. Fantastic.

It’s only a two minute video and worth watching.  It is exactly as the author characterized Romney’s response.

3.  Ryan:  Inside Information

As they took their first steps together on the campaign trail today, it was revealed that Paul Ryan's path to becoming Mitt Romney's Republican vice-presidential running mate was steeped in secrecy, from an incognito trip to meet Romney to a furtive walk through the woods at his boyhood Wisconsin home.
The head of Romney's VP search process, longtime confidante Beth Myers, broke her silence on many details in a briefing with reporters inside a hangar at Dulles International Airport near Washington. Romney and Ryan themselves spoke to reporters briefly on their flight to North Carolina.
Almost a week ago, Ryan snuck through Chicago's O'Hare airport in a baseball cap and sunglasses and flew to New England.

Myer's 19-year-old son picked up Ryan and drove him to a private meeting in his parents' dining room where the deal was sealed.

By Friday afternoon, Ryan was cutting through the Wisconsin woods behind his home to evade a reporter on the street out front, and heading to North Carolina.

By night, he was eating Applebee's takeout at a nondescript chain hotel in that state and preparing for his big debut speech, according to Myers.

The search for VP was so confidential that background information on a short list of candidates, including several years of tax returns and other documents, were kept in a safe in a locked room at Romney's campaign headquarters and the few people allowed in were not permitted to make copies or take anything out….

A good start here as the decision, made last week, didn’t leak out.

4.  Ryan energizes the Romney campaign

Newly minted vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan hit the stump this weekend with a level of energy that seemed to boost Mitt Romney’s entire campaign, giving the presumptive nominee a much-needed change in the narrative while adding another high-profile fundraiser and campaigner to deploy across the country.

It got off to an inauspicious start, though.

When Mr. Ryan was first introduced Saturday in Norfolk, Va., walking down the gangplank of the USS Wisconsin with the theme of the movie “Air Force One” playing in the background, Mr. Romney’s got a little ahead of himself, introducing Mr. Ryan as “the next president of the United States.”
Mr. Romney quickly corrected the slip-up, saying he had been known to make mistakes, “but I didn’t make one with this guy.”

Mr. Ryan showed a clear ability to connect with voters and infuse Mr. Romney’s campaign with, quite literally, a dash of youthful energy. At 42, Mr. Ryan is the same age as Mr. Romney’s eldest son, Tagg…
.

Ryan brings a target of opportunity to the Democrats, but also a huge risk to them.  They are counting on the American public being ignorant of the problems with entitlements and how the Democrats and  President Obama has done absolutely nothing to address them.

5.  Medicare:  It’s already ended as we know it

Liberals and Democrats these days like to believe that the Right and the Republican Party can be safely ignored. Obama and his allies argue that balance in media can be responsibly eschewed, because conservatives are inherently closed-minded, and the GOP, unlike the Democratic Party, is thoroughly unserious and dishonest.

I wonder if even the most strident and self-satisfied of these liberals -- to wit, New York Times columnist Paul Krugman -- can maintain this self-serving posture when Joe Biden debates Paul Ryan this fall.
When Mitt Romney chose Ryan this weekend as his running mate, the liberal freak out was telling. Attacking the budgets Ryan authored, they have trotted out the hoary line that Ryan would "eliminate Medicare," and push grannie off a cliff.

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina wrote that Ryan's "plan also would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors."
The "end Medicare as we know it" mantra highlights two ways in which it is the Democratic Party that is deeply unserious.

First, it echoes Obama's mendacity. Second, it reflects the party's irresponsible insistence on looking the other way while driving our government full speed toward the cliff of insolvency
.
Ryan's budget would not change anything about Medicare for people over age 54 or anyone younger who wants to go onto traditional Medicare. Ryan's plan, crafted with Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden -- who earns gushing praise from self-styled wonks on the Left as a serious legislator (which he is) -- merely allows some people to opt instead for a voucherized version of Medicare.

So Democrats assert that Ryan-Wyden would "end Medicare as we know it," because any modification of any existing policy would "end" that policy "as we know it."

This slippery charge is Team Obama's standard rhetorical tack: Say something clearly misleading, but with one potential interpretation that could be construed as not a lie.

The Democratic alternative to Ryan's Medicare reform, meanwhile is, well, nothing…

Actually the response is not nothing.  Buried in Obamacare is the creation of the IPAB, a 15 member board that would have the power to reduce reimbursements on any and all Medicare covered procedures.  In fact, the IPAB and Obamacare have ended Medicare as we know it starting in 2014.  The Ryan Plan would affect new seniors going on to Medicare in 2024.  The two plans let you choose what you want to be insured against (Ryan) or lets a board choose what you will be insured against (Obamacare).  Add to this the fact that Obamacare relies on taking $500,000,000,000 out of Medicare to pay for the added people covered by Obamacare.

6.  Dedevelopment:  The Greens start to tell the real truth

…For years, the green argument was something like this: If only we can replace fossil fuels with cleaner, renewable energy sources, we can enjoy our current standard of living without endangering the environment. Now it appears some greens have advanced the argument to a brand new phase: It’s as if they’ve replaced a green energy policy with a no-energy policy.

This is an example of where the left will take us.  Certainly Hope and Change ended up in recessions and despair.  Progressives have actually become Regressives.

What makes America Great

What’s new Today

Story #1 tells us that Mr. Obama credits the greatness of America to government spending.  #2 tells of how Joe Biden is out making claims that simply aren’t true.  #3 shows that our latest Justice to the Supreme Court doesn’t seem to know the law that has been in effect for close to 30 years.  #4 tells us the travails of Keith Olbermann, a true man of the people.

1.  Obama:  Government spending made this country great

President Obama attacked Republicans for their desire to cut the government spending that "made this country great," while also faulting them for failing to "balance the budget." Obama said that Republicans have "one message and that is, we're going to make sure that we cut people's taxes even more -- so that by every objective measure our deficit is worse and we will slash government investments that have made this country great," he argued, "not because it's going to balance the budget, but because it's driven by our ideological vision about how government should be. That's their agenda, pure and simple."

If he is correct, then the USA must have gotten MUCH greater over these past three years.  As for his charge the Republicans have failed to balance the budget, they have passed their budget in the House, while Harry Reid is going for the world’s record of passing no budget at all.  And how has Mr. Obama’s budget done?  It was defeated 414-0 in the House.

2.  Biden misses again

Declaring "manufacturing is back," Vice President Biden gave a rosy — but not entirely accurate or complete — picture of U.S. manufacturing at a March 28 campaign stop in Iowa.

Biden overstated — by 1.1 million — the number of manufacturing jobs lost before President Obama took office. He said the U.S. lost 5.8 million manufacturing jobs "during the 2000s, before we came in." But that figure includes 2009 — Obama's first year in office. The U.S. lost 4.7 million such jobs "before we came in."

Biden also cherry-picked his job figures when he declared the U.S. has added "430,000 new manufacturing jobs just since 2010." That's true. But since the start of the Obama administration in January 2009, the U.S. has 661,000 fewer manufacturing jobs — despite the recent job gains.

In fact, manufacturing jobs represent a disproportionate share of job losses since Obama took office. In all, the U.S. has lost a net 864,000 non-farm jobs since January 2009 — a decline of one half of 1%. But manufacturing jobs are down 5% since then. One recent study found that at the current pace, it will take until 2020 for the U.S. to recover the manufacturing jobs lost since 2007.

When you hear claims from the Democrats it is best to discount 50% and ignore the other 50% is just plain not true.

3.  Justice Sotomayor:  Ignorant or just liberal?

The liberal Supreme Court justices have demonstrated profound and shocking ignorance of the American health care system. Here's one of the most jarring examples:

"What percentage of the American people who took their son or daughter to an emergency room and that child was turned away because the parent didn't have insurance," asked Sotomayor, "... do you think there's a large percentage of the American population that would stand for the death of that child -- (who) had an allergic reaction and a simple shot would have saved the child?"

I have a precise answer for Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

The percentage of American people who took their son or daughter to an emergency room and were turned away because the parent didn't have insurance is exactly zero

Perhaps Justice Sotomayor should ask her brother what would happen since he is a medical doctor.

4.  Keith Olbermann:  Man of the People?

On the heels of Countdown host Keith Olbermann ‘s firing from Current TV,  the network and sources close to it have been quick to buttress their case for the dismissal with details of the temperamental star’s antics. One such source tells Mediaite, among other things, that Olbermann went through 8 different car services (he doesn’t drive), and complained to the network that some of the drivers “smelled,” and “talked to him,” the latter detail echoing a leak that once dogged then-Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.

Earlier, Howard Kurtz tweeted that he was “Hearing allegation that Olbermann switched car co’s and vendors because Current didn’t pay the bills,” which Olbermann retweeted, but our source says that is not true, that Kurtz has been contacted about the item, and that no one else at Current has had this issue.

The network fired Olbermann for what it says is breach of contract, citing unauthorized absences from work, failure to promote the network, and disparagement of the company and its executives…

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/keith-olbermann-complained-to-current-that-car-service-drivers-smelled-talked-to-him/

Wow, they actually had the temerity to talk to him?   Who could blame him for being upset!!  So this guy being a jerk isn’t just a TV persona.  He really is a jerk.

What does Obama's change look like?

What’s new today

Our # 1 story is talking about the electability of Newt Gingrich.   #2 has Obama telling us we are beginning to see what change looks like.  #3 through #5 are about the Occupy movement from how OWS fits with the left, to the question of freedom of speech and the Occupy movement to how it looks to be ending in New York.  #6 has VP Biden congratulating the Unions for firing the first shot.  I thought it was that kind of talk that got a shooter crazed enough to shoot Rep. Gifford in Arizona.  #7 is another article about major problems in China while our last story is about a woman’s gaydar accuracy.

1.  Is Newt electable? Hell, yes!

As the debates accumulate, it becomes more and more evident that Newt Gingrich’s intellect, experience, articulateness and depth of knowledge elevate him to the top of the GOP field. ANYONE SHOULD BE HAPPY TO PAY ADMISSION TO WATCH HIM DUEL WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA IN DEBATE! He’s not as charismatic as Herman Cain or as smooth as Mitt Romney, but boy, does he have a brain!

Ever since the campaign started, Newt has always gotten in his own way. Now he has graciously stepped aside and let his creativity and intellect shine through.

Earlier in the debates, he bit the questioners’ heads off in a pique of surly crankiness. No longer. NOW HE JUST ANSWERS THE QUESTIONS AS THEY COME, OFTEN HITTING THEM OUT OF THE BALLPARK. His perspective and insights are penetrating and his condescension has vanished (or at least is sublimated).

Unfortunately, he does owe some of his current surge to the unsubstantiated and vague charges against Cain. While Republicans generally dismiss these charges, they worry that they will hurt him in November should he win the nomination. Herman will recover. His positive solutions for our economy will lift him back into the top tier of contention. Michele Bachmann might also come back, lifted by a tide of opposition to any tax increases embedded in the deficit-reduction supercommittee’s recommendations.

But any recovery by Cain or Bachmann will not bump Newt from the top tier. The likely result of the debate process is to bequeath to Iowa three or four contending candidates and leave it to them to sort out.

IF NEWT IS THE CANDIDATE, WILL HIS PERSONAL BAGGAGE DRAG HIM DOWN? IT WILL HURT, no doubt about that. His marriages will be dissected by the media, and his family will be deluged with questions and well-laid traps.

His ratings will decline as the inevitable baptism of fire begins. As with Cain, he will experience a few bad weeks. But, as with Cain, his positive strengths will carry him through the fire and he will come out the other end.

BUT ONCE NEWT SURVIVES THE PROCESS, HE WILL BE INOCULATED AGAINST THE CHARGES. He will have immunity against the issue.

And here is the core of Obama’s problem. ALL OF THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES WILL BE SO THOROUGHLY VETTED — AND PURIFIED — BY THE BRUTAL PROCESS THEY ARE GOING THROUGH THAT THEY WILL BE IMMUNE TO HIS CHARGES AGAINST THEM IN THE FALL….

Obama was never really vetted.  His weaknesses were ignored, but they can’t be this coming election.  Obama will be on the defensive and when he goes on the offensive he will sound like shrill and desperate.  Gingrich will eat him alive.

2.   What Change Looks Like

Obama in Hawaii gave a speech with the following quotation:

“That was what the campaign was about — the belief that the more Americans succeed, the more America succeeds. We knew it wouldn’t come easy, we knew it wasn’t going to come quickly, but three years later, because of what you did in 2008, WE’VE ALREADY STARTED TO SEE WHAT CHANGE LOOKS LIKE.”

Since the president raised the issue himself, WHY DON’T WE SKETCH OUT WHAT “CHANGE LOOKS LIKE” under the stewardship of Obama. Some of the highlights:

* A MISERY INDEX THAT IS AT A 28-YEAR HIGH.

*America’s CREDIT RATING DOWNGRADED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AMERICAN HISTORY.

* A STANDARD OF LIVING FOR AMERICANS THAT HAS FALLEN FURTHER and more steeply over the past three years than at any time since the government began recording it five decades ago.

* AN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE THAT NOW STANDS AT 9.0 PERCENT. October marks the 33rd consecutive month in which the unemployment rate was above the 8 percent level that the Obama administration said it would not exceed as a result of his stimulus program. And 28 out of the last 30 months has seen unemployment at 9.0 percent or above — the longest stretch of high unemployment since the Great Depression.

* Obama is now on track to have the WORST JOBS RECORD OF ANY PRESIDENT in the modern era.

* The SHARE OF THE ELIGIBLE POPULATION HOLDING A JOB has reached its lowest level since July 1983.

* Chronic unemployment is WORSE THAN THE GREAT DEPRESSION….

This is an excellent article which I highly recommend you read in full.  Who have been hurt the most in the past three years?  The poor, the weak and the defenseless.

3.   Occupy Wall Street Mirrors the Left

The failure of the Occupy Wall Street movement and its descent into Lord of the Flies-style chaos, and in many instances thuggery and criminality, IS EMBLEMATIC OF THE DRAMATIC DECLINE OF THE LEFT IN THE UNITED STATES. The ragtag encampments that President Obama earlier described  as expressing “the frustrations that the American people feel”, are now being swept from the streets of New York, Oakland, Portland, and across America, no doubt to great applause from locals who have had to put up for weeks with unsanitary tent cities on their doorstep. NANCY PELOSI SHOULD NOW BE EATING HER WORDS AFTER HAVING DECLARED IN OCTOBER “God bless them, for their spontaneity. It’s independent… it’s young, it’s spontaneous, and it’s focused. And it’s going to be effective.”

The downfall of Occupy Wall Street mirrors A BROADER MALAISE ON THE AMERICAN LEFT. Just three years after the election of the “hope and change” president, LIBERALISM IN AMERICA IS IN A STATE OF CRISIS. A recent Gallup poll  shows just one in five Americans (21 percent) calling themselves liberal. This compares to 42 percent who are self-described conservatives. After an historic mid-term election victory, Republicans now control the House of Representatives, and are in a very strong position to retake the Senate in 2012. PRESIDENT OBAMA IS NOW ONE OF THE MOST UNPOPULAR PRESIDENTS IN MODERN US HISTORY at this stage of his presidency, with approval ratings struggling to climb above the low 40’s, and with 73 percent of Americans believing the nation is moving down “the wrong track”. His big government agenda has proved a disaster, with recent Gallup polling  showing 57 per cent of Americans with “little or no confidence in the federal government to solve domestic problems”. Massive bailouts, excessive public spending and heavy borrowing have fueled the biggest budget deficit since World War Two, pushing the United States onto an economic precipice….

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/nilegardiner/100117490/the-decline-and-fall-of-occupy-wall-street-the-american-left-has-run-out-of-steam-and-liberalism-is-in-crisis/

Why is it the left always seems to feel entitled to rampage and commit violence when they are frustrated?

4.  Occupy Wall Street First Amendment Right

…In the history of the U.S. Supreme Court, ONLY ONE JUSTICE IS REMEMBERED AS A FIRST AMENDMENT "ABSOLUTIST." THAT WAS JUSTICE HUGO BLACK. During oral argument, WHENEVER AN ADVOCATE URGED AN INTERPRETATION REQUIRING A LIMITATION ON SPEECH, JUSTICE BLACK WOULD REMOVE HIS 10‐CENT COPY OF THE CONSTITUTION FROM HIS POCKET, AND ASK THE LAWYER TO READ THE WORDS OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT. WHEN THE LATTER REACHED THE PHRASE "NO LAW," JUSTICE BLACK WOULD QUIETLY SAY "THANK YOU" and pronounce the matter closed. For him, if an issue dealt with expression, no limitation could be imposed.

But even this First Amendment absolutist DREW A SHARP DISTINCTION BETWEEN EXPRESSION AND CONDUCT. In Brown v. Louisiana, the court dealt with an incident where a group of black men visited a public library and tried to take out books, to draw attention to the separate facilities made available for blacks and whites. After being told that the books they requested were unavailable, they refused to leave and were arrested for breach of the peace. Justice Black had little difficulty disposing of their First Amendment appeal:

The First Amendment, I think protects speech, writings, and expression of views in any manner in which they can be legitimately and validly communicated. BUT I HAVE NEVER BELIEVED THAT IT GIVES ANY PERSON OR GROUP OF PERSONS THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO GO WHEREVER THEY WANT, WHENEVER THEY PLEASE, WITHOUT REGARD TO THE RIGHTS OF PRIVATE OR PUBLIC PROPERTY OR TO STATE LAW. ... Though the First Amendment guarantees the right of assembly and the right of petition along with the rights of speech, press, and religion, IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE TO ANY PERSON THE RIGHT TO USE SOMEONE ELSE'S PROPERTY, EVEN THAT OWNED BY GOVERNMENT AND DEDICATED TO OTHER PURPOSES, AS A STAGE TO EXPRESS DISSIDENT IDEAS….

Some interesting history here regarding the first amendment.  If you don’t have Hugo Black on your side, you don’t have a case.

5.  It’s Come to This: Media Now Outnumber Protesters at Zuccotti Park

You’ve got to wonder whether the editors of the New York Daily News pay attention to their own website. Today we see a link reading OWS spreads across the United States carrying a bunch of undated photos. THIS ENTIRE “MOVEMENT” HAS LARGELY BEEN MISREPRESENTED BY THE MEDIA AS “SWEEPING THE NATION” AND A “WORLDWIDE MOVEMENT” WHEN IT’S NOTHING BUT A CLUMSY LEFTWING MOVEMENT AIDED AND ABETTED BY THE DEMOCRATS AND UNIONS. Now that many of these Obamavilles have been swept up by Democrat mayors, only scattered remnants remain. And in the same NYDN today we get the live account and the stunning reality their movement has crumbled:…

http://www.jammiewf.com/2011/its-come-to-this-media-now-outnumber-protesters-at-zuccotti-park/

These things tend to end with a whimper rather than a bang.

6.  Biden Lauds Unions for “Firing the first shot.”

“FOLKS, YOU FIRED THE FIRST SHOT. It's not about Barack Obama. It’s not about Joe Biden. It’s about whether middle-class people are going to be put back in the saddle again – because you are the people who make this country move," Vice President Joe Biden said at a campaign event in Ohio today.

Wasn’t it the Democrats who chided Sarah Palin for her Target sign for certain democratic held districts claiming it was inciting violence?  “Firing the first shot????”  It sounds like the pot is speaking.

7.  China going Bankrupt?

China’s economy has a reputation for being strong and prosperous, but ACCORDING TO A WELL-KNOWN CHINESE TELEVISION PERSONALITY THE COUNTRY’S GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IS GOING IN REVERSE.

Larry Lang, chair professor of Finance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said in a lecture that he didn’t think was being recorded that THE CHINESE REGIME IS IN A SERIOUS ECONOMIC CRISIS—ON THE BRINK OF BANKRUPTCY. In his memorable formulation: every province in China is Greece.

The restrictions Lang placed on the Oct. 22 speech in Shenyang City, in northern China’s Liaoning Province, included no audio or video recording, and no media. He can be heard saying that people should not post his speech online, or “everyone will look bad,” in the audio that is now on Youtube

In the unusual, closed-door lecture, Lang gave a frank analysis of the Chinese economy and the censorship that is placed on intellectuals and public figures. “WHAT I’M ABOUT TO SAY IS ALL TRUE. BUT UNDER THIS SYSTEM, WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK THE TRUTH,” HE SAID.

Despite Lang’s polished appearance on his high-profile TV shows, he said: “Don’t think that we are living in a peaceful time now. Actually the media cannot report anything at all. Those of us who do TV shows are so miserable and frustrated, because we cannot do any programs. As long as something is related to the government, we cannot report about it.”

I’ve posted a number of stories about troubles in China.  It is becoming more evident, China has some serious issues it has to deal with.

8.   Gaydar’ Accuracy Varies With Women’s Fertility Cycle

LADIES: IS YOUR “GAYDAR” OFF? Could you swear that guy was straight, only to later see him smooching with his same-sex soul mate?

Don’t fret about it. IT MAY SIMPLY BE THE WRONG TIME OF THE MONTH.

According to a study just published in the journal Psychological Science, WOMEN ARE SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER AT JUDGING MALE SEXUAL ORIENTATION AS THEY APPROACH PEAK FERTILITY. A research team led by University of Toronto psychologist Nicholas Rule also found romantic thoughts heighten women’s ability to discriminate between gay and straight men….

Nature rules on most everything.

Wednesday: Global Warming is dead

Climate

Latest Global Temperature Data Confirms That Unequivocal Global Cooling Is Accelerating

Note: Just prior to this posting, it became public that A NEW PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCE (PNAS) STUDY CONFIRMS THAT GLOBAL WARMING HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE 1998. This new study refutes James Hansen, Al Gore and all the IPCC Climategate scientists claims of "unequivocal," "unprecedented," and "accelerating" global warming they have made over recent years. GLOBAL WARMING SKEPTICS HAVE PROVEN TO BE CORRECT, WHICH THE BELOW MATERIAL ALSO SUPPORTS.

In a previous post, we reviewed the last 15 years of HadCRUT temperature records, which show that GLOBAL WARMING HAS BECOME INSIGNIFICANT. In fact, one could accurately state that a global cooling trend is now replacing a global warming trend in an "unequivocal" and "accelerating" manner, using the greens' own favored warming alarmist terms. (click on each image to enlarge)

When examining the past 15 years of monthly global temperature anomalies, THE PER CENTURY CHANGE FROM A WARMING TREND TO A COOLING TREND BECOMES CLEAR.
Calculating 10-year linear trends from the monthly anomalies, the above chart plots end of year per century trends (plus the May 2011 10-year trend).

http://www.c3headlines.com/2011/07/latest-global-temperature-data-confirms-that-unequivocal-global-cooling-is-accelerating.html

The lie seems to be falling apart. Global warming appears to be over. Yesterday I posted an article about how pollution from emerging nations may be the cause of the lack of warming and I posited that perhaps the warming we saw from 1975 to 1998 was due to the cleanup of pollution by the West. What’s sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander.

Britain’s renewable energy scam

Scarcely a day goes by without more evidence to show why the Government's obsession with wind turbines, now at the centre of our national energy policy, is ONE OF THE GREATEST POLITICAL BLUNDERS OF OUR TIME. Under a target agreed with the EU, Britain is committed within ten years — at astronomic expense — to generating nearly a third of its electricity from renewable sources, mainly through building thousands more wind turbines.

But the penny is finally dropping for almost everyone — except our politicians — that to rely on windmills to keep our lights on is a colossal and very dangerous act of self-deception.
Take, for example, the 350ft monstrosity familiar to millions of motorists who drive past as it sluggishly revolves above the M4 outside Reading.

THIS WIND TURBINE PERFORMED SO POORLY (WORKING AT ONLY 15 PER CENT OF ITS CAPACITY) THAT THE £130,000 GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY GIVEN TO ITS OWNERS WAS MORE THAN THE £100,000 WORTH OF ELECTRICITY IT PRODUCED LAST YEAR….

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article-1361316/250bn-wind-power-industry-greatest-scam-age.html#ixzz1RFEeVkkE

This is a very good article that lays out the folly that wind power represents. And in the biggest irony of all, you have Holland as “the first country in Europe to abandon its EU renewable energy target, announcing that it is to slash its annual subsidy by billions of euros.” I guess the EU is tilting at windmills.

Labor has 'snootful' but will stick with Obama

Vice President Joe Biden addresses delegates and members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters at the union's international convention, Friday, July 1, 2011, in Las Vegas. "DON'T ANY OF YOU GUYS VOTE REPUBLICAN," BIDEN SAID TO THE CONVENTION. "LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY: DON'T COME TO ME IF YOU DO. YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN, JACK!"…

….BIDEN'S WARNING, WHICH RECEIVED VIRTUALLY NO COVERAGE IN THE PRESS, IS PART OF THE OBAMA RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN'S 2012 STRATEGY FOR ORGANIZED LABOR. It's a two-part plan. One, use the president's executive powers to give labor all sorts of advantages that can't be achieved through legislation. And two, when labor leaders complain that they haven't gotten everything they want, tell them they have nowhere else to go….

http://washingtonexaminer.com/politics/2011/07/labor-has-snootful-will-stick-obama#ixzz1RFc2E7GT

I thought the President and Vice President were president and vice president of all Americans. So while support buys access I find this “You’re on your own, Jack!” to be truthful but undemocratic.

History

10 things you may not know about America’s Independence

3.) IT WAS A STATES THING FIRST: Independence was not something that was confined to Congress. It started out as a state and local thing. In fact, THE VERY FIRST DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE CAME ON OCT. 4, 1774 (21 MONTHS BEFORE THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS DECLARED INDEPENDENCE) FROM THE TOWN OF WORCESTER, MASS. During the next 21 months A TOTAL OF 90 STATE AND LOCAL DECLARATIONS OF INDEPENDENCE WOULD BE MADE. When Virginia declared its independence in May 1776, they sent Rep. Richard Henry Lee to the Continental Congress with specific instructions to put forth a resolution of independence for Congress to vote on, thus allying all the colonies -- soon to become states -- against the British Empire in the War for Independence.

Driving while stoned

It was his green tongue that helped give away Jimmy Candido Flores when police arrived at the fatal accident scene near Chico.

Flores had run off the road and killed a jogger, Carrie Jean Holliman, a 56-year-old Chico elementary school teacher. California Highway Patrol officers thought he might be impaired and conducted a sobriety examination. FLORES' TONGUE HAD A GREEN COAT TYPICAL OF HEAVY MARIJUANA USERS AND A LATER TEST SHOWED HE HAD POT, AS WELL AS OTHER DRUGS, IN HIS BLOOD.

After pleading guilty to manslaughter, Flores, a medical marijuana user, was sentenced in February to 10 years and 8 months in prison.

Holliman's death and others like it across the nation hint at what experts say is an unrecognized crisis: stoned drivers.

The MOST RECENT ASSESSMENT BY THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, BASED ON RANDOM ROADSIDE CHECKS, FOUND THAT 16.3% OF ALL DRIVERS NATIONWIDE AT NIGHT WERE ON VARIOUS LEGAL AND ILLEGAL IMPAIRING DRUGS, HALF THEM HIGH ON MARIJUANA….

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-pot-drivers-20110703,0,5540871,full.story

This certainly doesn’t gel with the claim by pot users that they are a “safe” drug. I guess MADD should change its name to MASD (mothers against stoned drivers).

Why you shouldn't want to be a Democrat

Who Do You Trust?

According to Rasmussen Reports, likely voters continue to trust Republicans over Democrats on all the major issues. I suggest that it's THE RECENT CONSERVATIVE, TEA PARTY PHILOSOPHY OF LESS SPENDING / LOWER TAXES WHICH HAS GENERATED POPULAR SYMPATHY FOR THE GOP - and that they should follow the public's lead if they wish to retain their good graces
http://nlt.ashbrook.org/2011/03/who-do-you-trust.php

Looking at the graphic, things do not look good for the Democrats.

Editorial: President Obama’s Crony Capitalism

LEADERSHIP: Obama critics were quick to link U.S. loans for Brazil oil to benefits for his investor pal George Soros. There was no link in this case, but considering how this president operates, it's no wonder suspicions ran high.

The president's announcement that HIS ADMINISTRATION WOULD LEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO DEVELOP BRAZIL'S OFFSHORE OIL RESERVES LEFT MANY AMERICANS FLABBERGASTED.

After all, HE HAD ISSUED TWO DRILLING MORATORIUMS IN U.S. WATERS AND THEN WAS DECLARED IN CONTEMPT OF COURT FOR DEFYING A FEDERAL JUDGE WHO ORDERED THE MORATORIUMS REVERSED. Some wondered if the president wasn't intentionally acting against U.S. interests….

An interesting editorial and one that does deserve to be read. It appears we have a case of Presidential NIMBY Don’t miss it.

Obama and Libya

DEEP DIVISIONS BETWEEN ALLIED FORCES CURRENTLY BOMBING LIBYA WORSENED TODAY AS THE GERMAN MILITARY ANNOUNCED IT WAS PULLING FORCES OUT OF NATO OVER CONTINUED DISAGREEMENT ON WHO WILL LEAD THE CAMPAIGN.

A German military spokesman said it was recalling two frigates and AWACS surveillance plane crews from the Mediterranean, after fears they would be drawn into the conflict if NATO takes over control from the U.S.

The infighting comes as a heated meeting of NATO ambassadors yesterday failed to resolve whether the 28-nation alliance should run the operation to enforce a U.N.-mandated no-fly zone, diplomats said.

YESTERDAY A WAR OF WORDS ERUPTED BETWEEN THE U.S. AND BRITAIN AFTER THE U.K. GOVERNMENT CLAIMED MUAMMAR GADDAFI IS A LEGITIMATE TARGET FOR ASSASSINATION.

U.K. government officials said killing the Libyan leader would be legal if it prevented civilian deaths as laid out in a U.N. resolution.

But U.S. defense secretary Robert Gates hit back at the suggestion, saying it would be 'unwise' to target the Libyan leader adding cryptically that the bombing campaign should stick to the 'U.N. mandate'.

We’ve evidently gone from the “world’s policeman” under Bush, to the “Keystone Cops” under Obama.

Cantor’s Pro-Growth Call

ECONOMIC GROWTH OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS HAS BEEN LESS THAN 2 PERCENT ANNUALLY. And this is a mighty soft economic recovery going on right now, following the very deep recession.

So it’s appropriate enough that Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor unveiled a strong pro-growth economic plan at Stanford’s Hoover Institution this week. Cantor is afraid the Republican budget-cutting message is a little too austere, so HE’S ATTEMPTING TO BALANCE THE NECESSARY BUDGET CUTS WITH A PRO-GROWTH, TAX-AND-REGULATORY REFORM MESSAGE.

Cantor focuses especially on getting business tax rates down to at least 25 percent. He also PROPOSES A TAX HOLIDAY TO REPATRIATE THE FOREIGN EARNINGS OF U.S. COMpanies. So many CEOs have made the same argument. And this was done successfully in 2004-05. IF ENACTED, MAYBE $1 TRILLION IN CASH WILL FLOW BACK HOME FOR NEW INVESTMENT AND JOBS

This is one of those proposals the Democrats will be willing to 'cut off our noses to spite their face' about.

Obama Budget Nominee Admits Current Budgets Higher than Bush Debt

THOUGH PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA HAS REPEATEDLY SAID HE INHERITED A FISCAL MESS FROM HIS PREDECESSOR GEORGE W. BUSH, Obama’s nominee to be the deputy budget director conceded to a Senate panel last week that none of Bush’s budgets had as high a debt as Obama’s budgets.

During the Senate confirmation hearing on March 17, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, grilled Heather Higginbottom – who was nominated last January to be deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget – about THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S CLAIMS THAT THE PRESIDENT’S 10-YEAR BUDGET PROPOSAL DOES NOT ADD TO THE NATIONAL DEBT.

“In years 8, 9 and 10 it [Obama’s budget proposal] goes up every year and reaches approximately $900 billion from $600 billion, as a low point in the entire 10 years,” Sessions said. “THE HIGHEST DEBT BUSH EVER HAD WAS $450 BILLION. YOU DON’T HAVE A SINGLE YEAR WHEN THE BUDGET FALLS BELOW $600 BILLION DO YOU?....

I don’t think President Obama is very good with numbers.

Book Review: Manning Up: How the Rise of Women Has Turned Men into Boys,"

…."MEN MAY BE JERKS," MY HUSBAND LIKES TO OCCASIONALLY DECLARE, "BUT WOMEN ARE INSANE." I hate to admit it, but he's right-and anyone who has spent two years living in a sorority house filled with alpha girls (I'm raising my hand) can attest that this is true.

WOMEN ARE LIKELY GOING NUTS FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. For instance, it's quite tiring and stressful, not to mention impossible, to try to have the brilliant job, the perfect family, shiny hair and manicured hands. Some women say they want total "equality" but still want guys to pick up the check. BUT PERHAPS ANOTHER REASON WOMEN ARE LOSING IT IS THAT THEY'RE REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT THEY'RE NO DIFFERENT THAN MEN-and many believe it, particularly in the realm of sex…..

Here’s a book that seems worth looking at.

Bottle Deposits and the Grim Truth

….THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES BACKFIRE SHOULD GIVE PAUSE FOR THOUGHT. Biofuels were meant to protect the environment and combat global warming -- in fact it destroys rainforests and causes greater CO2 emissions than conventional fuel.

Saving water was meant to protect natural resources, but it just drives up water bills. BANNING THE LIGHT BULB WAS SEEN AS A MILESTONE ON THE PATH TO CARBON NEUTRAL LIVING IN EUROPE -- BUT CHINA HAS BEEN CRANKING UP ITS MERCURY PRODUCTION TO SATISFY DEMAND for the alternative energy saving bulbs.

In the fight to protect the environment, IT MAY BE TIME TO PAUSE AND ASK ONESELF: WHAT IS REALLY HELPING, AND WHAT ISN'T? And to admit at times: sorry, we were wrong. But it doesn't work like that. ENVIRONMENTALISM KNOWS NO DOUBT. THE IDEA IS NEVER WRONG, THE PROBLEM IS ALWAYS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION.

It is becoming more and more evident that the cures the left comes up with are frequently worse than the disease they are trying to end. AGW is just one example.

Here’s a fascinating look at statistics in which preconceived notions are skewered and a very enjoyable way.
