Facts that hurt Obama

AAA Math
What’s New Today
Story # 1 is our signs of desperation as the Obama campaign claims they are intentionally limiting the size of crowds.  #2 looks at the Medicare Debate.  Read Reagan’s quote in the Today’s Thoughts to see the significance of it.  #3 looks at the candidates to see which ones have no idea of the others party.  #4 has the statistics that will help defeat Obama.  #5 is another statistic that is devastating for Obama.

Today’s Thoughts
The Southern Poverty Law Center which started as a civil rights organization has become so radicalized as to include any as a hate group pretty much any organization that opposes the left's favored causes.  In fact it has turned itself into a hated group.

"The larger the percentage of the national income taken by taxes the greater the deterrent to private production and employment. When the total tax burden grows beyond a bearable size, the problem of devising taxes that will not discourage and disrupt production becomes insoluble." -- Henry Hazlitt

Ronald Reagan:  "If you're explaining, you're losing."

Lie of the Day

Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat from New Hampshire, said that the president "led the mission that brought Osama bin Laden to justice."  I guess the Senator doesn’t know the difference between authorizing and leading or is desperate to cloud than difference in your mind..

1.  Signs of Desperation—Obama campaign limiting size of crowds

The presumptive GOP presidential and vice presidential nominees Mitt Romney and Rep. Paul Ryan are attracting  thousands of supporters to their campaign rallies since Mr. Romney named Mr. Ryan to the bottom of the ticket. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has taken notice of the massive crowds at the Romney Ryan stump speeches and sent out an urgent e-mail to their supporters, reported The Washington Examiner last week.

However, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are not drawing the crowds they once could.  The New York Times reported that the Obama campaign said that it is intentionally limiting crowd size at their events because of security and cost:

“We have plenty of time for big rallies,” a campaign spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said between the rallies on Thursday. “Our focus right now is on exciting our supporters and winning over undecided voters and the smaller and medium-size events are the best venue to accomplish that because the president can closely engage with the crowd."
Big rallies are expensive, especially given the logistical and security challenges for a president as opposed to a mere United States senator. And Obama campaign operatives, both at the Chicago headquarters and in swing states where Mr. Obama recently has stumped, say the campaign intentionally limits crowds by restricting tickets. The reason is to allow the president to better connect with supporters, aides say....

If you believe that I have a bridge I want to sell you.

2.  Medicare debate:  School Yard Rules apply

…In the Medicare debate, schoolyard rules apply: Punch the bully in the mouth twice as hard.
It’s impossible to have a reasonable discussion with people who insist you are going to “kill people” (Paul Krugman’s words). If Vice President Biden hasn’t yet said that the Romney-Ryan Medicare premium support plan will lead to the reinstitution of chattel slavery, just wait until the next time he gets worked up before a largely African-American audience.

Never before, though, have Democrats passed the largest Medicare cuts in history immediately prior to launching their tried-and-true assault. This time, it is a case of the pot calling the kettle a danger to America’s seniors.

Confronted with Obama’s Medicare cuts, Democrats and their friends in the media resort to denial.
On “Meet the Press” the other day, I asked Rachel Maddow if she supported the $700 billion in cuts, and she simply wouldn’t say. Here was the Oxford-educated pride of liberal punditry professing to have no opinion on a primary means of funding what she considers a glorious legislative achievement.
Others pooh-pooh the significance of the cuts. They supposedly hit only “nonessential services.” This may be the first time in the debate over entitlements that Democrats have deemed anything related to Medicare “nonessential.”

What Democrats mean is that $156 billion of the cuts fall on the Medicare Advantage program. They have always hated this feature because it gives seniors access to private-sector coverage options. But seniors like it.

The Obama cuts also rely on grinding, year-after-year reductions in payments to doctors and other providers. This is a way to maintain that there are technically no changes in “benefits,” though access to and quality of care inevitably will be affected…

The Democrats are basically creating price controls for people providing services to the elderly.  Anyone who lived through the price controls in the 1970s on gasoline remember the long lines and service stations out of gasoline.  Price controls have never worked.

3.  2012 Election:  The Candidates background

…The difference between the Republican ticket and the Democrat ticket is stark.  If there is one salient fact about Barack Obama, it is that he has grown up in a plastic bubble of Democrat leftism.  Hawaii, Ivy League schools, Chicago machine politics in a strongly Democrat Illinois...except for his election in 2008, Obama has never even had to try to win Republican voters.

His wife has also grown up in an alternative universe of angry black Marxism, leftist law schools, and a church in which the parishioners sit quietly in their pews while a hate-mongering pastor spews out contempt for his chosen homeland.  Wright's quotes about America are bad, but over and over he has said things which are simply nuts.

Both Barry and Michelle hung out with the most militant 1960s radicals, but more to the point, they never associated with ordinary Republicans.  Indeed, to the Obama couple, simply being a Republican is akin to being a hopeless racist.  They have no clue what actually moves Republican voters, and indeed, they often show utter ignorance of what ordinary Democrats -- the sort which once made Democrats the majority party -- feel and think.

The same is true of Biden.  He comes from a state with two Democrat senators, a Democrat governor, and a Democrat congressman.  Both houses of the state legislature are controlled by Democrats.  It is the in the nation, according to Gallup (Illinois is the tenth-most Democrat state.)

Small wonder, then, when Biden spoke of Republicans wanting to “put you all back in chains,” that did not seem like over-the-top rhetoric to him.  Like Obama, he has completed for Republican voters in an environment where Democrats are not the overwhelming majority in precisely one election: the 2008 presidential election.

Barry, Michelle, and Joe simply do not understand Republican voters at all.  Mitt, Paul, and Janna, in sharp contrast, have persuaded successfully Democrats to vote for them, or, in the case of Mrs. Ryan, she has grown up in a political family which was Democrat and worked for a Democrat congressman.
At some point in the next ten weeks, that difference in the understanding which the Republican ticket has of ordinary Americans of both parties and the utter myopia which the Democrat ticket has about the largest political party in the nation will become brilliantly clear to millions of Americans.  When that happens, the election is over.

The democrats are far more out of touch with ordinary Americans than are the Republicans.  Look at their base.  It is a collection of small groups.  The Democrats no longer represent the working man (only the unions), the white voter, or the middle class.

4.  Obama’s promises:  The Case for no second term

…In his fiscal year 2010 budget—the first he presented—the president envisaged growth of 3.2 percent in 2010, 4.0 percent in 2011, 4.6 percent in 2012. The actual numbers were 2.4 percent in 2010 and 1.8 percent in 2011; few forecasters now expect it to be much above 2.3 percent this year.
Unemployment was supposed to be 6 percent by now. It has averaged 8.2 percent this year so far. Meanwhile real median annual household income has dropped more than 5 percent since June 2009. Nearly 110 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011, mostly Medicaid or food stamps.
Welcome to Obama’s America: nearly half the population is not represented on a taxable return—almost exactly the same proportion that lives in a household where at least one member receives some type of government benefit. We are becoming the 50–50 nation—half of us paying the taxes, the other half receiving the benefits.

And all this despite a far bigger hike in the federal debt than we were promised. According to the 2010 budget, the debt in public hands was supposed to fall in relation to GDP from 67 percent in 2010 to less than 66 percent this year. If only. By the end of this year, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), it will reach 70 percent of GDP. These figures significantly understate the debt problem, however. The ratio that matters is debt to revenue. That number has leapt upward from 165 percent in 2008 to 262 percent this year, according to figures from the International Monetary Fund. Among developed economies, only Ireland and Spain have seen a bigger deterioration.

Some powerful numbers everyone should hear frequently as the 2012 elections come closer

5.  Unemployment up in 44 States

Unemployment rates rose in 44 U.S. states in July, the most states to show a monthly increase in more than three years and a reflection of weak hiring nationwide.

The Labor Department said Friday that unemployment rates fell in only two states and were unchanged in four.

Unemployment rates rose in nine states that are considered battlegrounds in the presidential election. That trend, if it continued, could pose a threat to President Barack re-election bid in less than three months….

This doesn’t represent a potential problem for Obama.  It is a huge problem for Obama.

Why you shouldn't want to be a Democrat

Who Do You Trust?

According to Rasmussen Reports, likely voters continue to trust Republicans over Democrats on all the major issues. I suggest that it's THE RECENT CONSERVATIVE, TEA PARTY PHILOSOPHY OF LESS SPENDING / LOWER TAXES WHICH HAS GENERATED POPULAR SYMPATHY FOR THE GOP - and that they should follow the public's lead if they wish to retain their good graces

Looking at the graphic, things do not look good for the Democrats.

Editorial: President Obama’s Crony Capitalism

LEADERSHIP: Obama critics were quick to link U.S. loans for Brazil oil to benefits for his investor pal George Soros. There was no link in this case, but considering how this president operates, it's no wonder suspicions ran high.

The president's announcement that HIS ADMINISTRATION WOULD LEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO DEVELOP BRAZIL'S OFFSHORE OIL RESERVES LEFT MANY AMERICANS FLABBERGASTED.

After all, HE HAD ISSUED TWO DRILLING MORATORIUMS IN U.S. WATERS AND THEN WAS DECLARED IN CONTEMPT OF COURT FOR DEFYING A FEDERAL JUDGE WHO ORDERED THE MORATORIUMS REVERSED. Some wondered if the president wasn't intentionally acting against U.S. interests….

An interesting editorial and one that does deserve to be read. It appears we have a case of Presidential NIMBY Don’t miss it.

Obama and Libya

DEEP DIVISIONS BETWEEN ALLIED FORCES CURRENTLY BOMBING LIBYA WORSENED TODAY AS THE GERMAN MILITARY ANNOUNCED IT WAS PULLING FORCES OUT OF NATO OVER CONTINUED DISAGREEMENT ON WHO WILL LEAD THE CAMPAIGN.

A German military spokesman said it was recalling two frigates and AWACS surveillance plane crews from the Mediterranean, after fears they would be drawn into the conflict if NATO takes over control from the U.S.

The infighting comes as a heated meeting of NATO ambassadors yesterday failed to resolve whether the 28-nation alliance should run the operation to enforce a U.N.-mandated no-fly zone, diplomats said.

YESTERDAY A WAR OF WORDS ERUPTED BETWEEN THE U.S. AND BRITAIN AFTER THE U.K. GOVERNMENT CLAIMED MUAMMAR GADDAFI IS A LEGITIMATE TARGET FOR ASSASSINATION.

U.K. government officials said killing the Libyan leader would be legal if it prevented civilian deaths as laid out in a U.N. resolution.

But U.S. defense secretary Robert Gates hit back at the suggestion, saying it would be 'unwise' to target the Libyan leader adding cryptically that the bombing campaign should stick to the 'U.N. mandate'.

We’ve evidently gone from the “world’s policeman” under Bush, to the “Keystone Cops” under Obama.

I’m waiting to see if Joe is a man of his word or not.

Cantor’s Pro-Growth Call

ECONOMIC GROWTH OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS HAS BEEN LESS THAN 2 PERCENT ANNUALLY. And this is a mighty soft economic recovery going on right now, following the very deep recession.

So it’s appropriate enough that Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor unveiled a strong pro-growth economic plan at Stanford’s Hoover Institution this week. Cantor is afraid the Republican budget-cutting message is a little too austere, so HE’S ATTEMPTING TO BALANCE THE NECESSARY BUDGET CUTS WITH A PRO-GROWTH, TAX-AND-REGULATORY REFORM MESSAGE.

Cantor focuses especially on getting business tax rates down to at least 25 percent. He also PROPOSES A TAX HOLIDAY TO REPATRIATE THE FOREIGN EARNINGS OF U.S. COMpanies. So many CEOs have made the same argument. And this was done successfully in 2004-05. IF ENACTED, MAYBE $1 TRILLION IN CASH WILL FLOW BACK HOME FOR NEW INVESTMENT AND JOBS

This is one of those proposals the Democrats will be willing to 'cut off our noses to spite their face' about.

Obama Budget Nominee Admits Current Budgets Higher than Bush Debt

THOUGH PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA HAS REPEATEDLY SAID HE INHERITED A FISCAL MESS FROM HIS PREDECESSOR GEORGE W. BUSH, Obama’s nominee to be the deputy budget director conceded to a Senate panel last week that none of Bush’s budgets had as high a debt as Obama’s budgets.

During the Senate confirmation hearing on March 17, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, grilled Heather Higginbottom – who was nominated last January to be deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget – about THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S CLAIMS THAT THE PRESIDENT’S 10-YEAR BUDGET PROPOSAL DOES NOT ADD TO THE NATIONAL DEBT.

“In years 8, 9 and 10 it [Obama’s budget proposal] goes up every year and reaches approximately $900 billion from $600 billion, as a low point in the entire 10 years,” Sessions said. “THE HIGHEST DEBT BUSH EVER HAD WAS $450 BILLION. YOU DON’T HAVE A SINGLE YEAR WHEN THE BUDGET FALLS BELOW $600 BILLION DO YOU?....

I don’t think President Obama is very good with numbers.

Book Review: Manning Up: How the Rise of Women Has Turned Men into Boys,"

…."MEN MAY BE JERKS," MY HUSBAND LIKES TO OCCASIONALLY DECLARE, "BUT WOMEN ARE INSANE." I hate to admit it, but he's right-and anyone who has spent two years living in a sorority house filled with alpha girls (I'm raising my hand) can attest that this is true.

WOMEN ARE LIKELY GOING NUTS FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. For instance, it's quite tiring and stressful, not to mention impossible, to try to have the brilliant job, the perfect family, shiny hair and manicured hands. Some women say they want total "equality" but still want guys to pick up the check. BUT PERHAPS ANOTHER REASON WOMEN ARE LOSING IT IS THAT THEY'RE REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT THEY'RE NO DIFFERENT THAN MEN-and many believe it, particularly in the realm of sex…..

Here’s a book that seems worth looking at.

Bottle Deposits and the Grim Truth

….THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES BACKFIRE SHOULD GIVE PAUSE FOR THOUGHT. Biofuels were meant to protect the environment and combat global warming -- in fact it destroys rainforests and causes greater CO2 emissions than conventional fuel.

Saving water was meant to protect natural resources, but it just drives up water bills. BANNING THE LIGHT BULB WAS SEEN AS A MILESTONE ON THE PATH TO CARBON NEUTRAL LIVING IN EUROPE -- BUT CHINA HAS BEEN CRANKING UP ITS MERCURY PRODUCTION TO SATISFY DEMAND for the alternative energy saving bulbs.

In the fight to protect the environment, IT MAY BE TIME TO PAUSE AND ASK ONESELF: WHAT IS REALLY HELPING, AND WHAT ISN'T? And to admit at times: sorry, we were wrong. But it doesn't work like that. ENVIRONMENTALISM KNOWS NO DOUBT. THE IDEA IS NEVER WRONG, THE PROBLEM IS ALWAYS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,751469-7,00.html

It is becoming more and more evident that the cures the left comes up with are frequently worse than the disease they are trying to end. AGW is just one example.

Statistics can be interesting

Here’s a fascinating look at statistics in which preconceived notions are skewered and a very enjoyable way.
