Is the Occupy Movement coming apart and who prospers when the Democrats are in office?

What’s new today

Our # 1 tells us that apparently the rich do better with Democrats in office than they do with Republicans.  Perhaps that explains why Wall Street supports Obama so much.  #2 tells us that Colorado has rejected more taxes and looks to see what that might mean.  #3 relates that while most of us are aware of Solyndra and the investigation there, it is only one of 100 investigations into the DOE’s loans program.  #4 has Ann Coulter comparing being charged with sexual harassment in the 1990s to being charged with witchcraft in the 1690s.  Story #5 questions whether Obama is the worst president since before the Civil War.  #6 is an obituary for Barack Obama’s chances in 2012.  Nothing is there that gives him a fighting chance.  Article #7 is the Herman Cain scandal, if you can call it a scandal.  #8 relates the degeneration of Occupy Oakland.  The Occupy movement has been taken over by radical anarchist and unions.  #9 wonders if the Occupy movement doesn’t expose the bankruptcy of our institutions of higher learning.  #10 is an update on Fast and Furious.

1.   Wealthy Prosper Under Democrats

…During the 2008 campaign, Obama said, "THE PROJECT OF THE NEXT PRESIDENT IS FIGURING OUT HOW DO YOU CREATE BOTTOM-UP ECONOMIC GROWTH, AS OPPOSED TO THE TRICKLE-DOWN ECONOMIC GROWTH THAT GEORGE BUSH HAS BEEN SO ENAMORED WITH."

But it turns out that THE RICH ACTUALLY GOT POORER UNDER PRESIDENT BUSH, and THE INCOME GAP HAS BEEN CLIMBING UNDER OBAMA.

What's more, the biggest increase in income inequality over the past three decades took place when Democrat Bill Clinton was in the White House.

THE WEALTHIEST 5% OF U.S. HOUSEHOLDS SAW INCOMES FALL 7% AFTER INFLATION IN BUSH'S EIGHT YEARS in office, according to an IBD analysis of Census Bureau data. A widely used household income inequality measure, the Gini index, was essentially flat over that span. Another inequality gauge, the Theil index, showed a decline.

In contrast, the Gini index rose — slightly — in Obama's first two years. Another Census measure of inequality shows its climbed 5.7% since he took office.

Meanwhile, DURING CLINTON'S EIGHT YEARS, THE WEALTHIEST 5% OF AMERICAN HOUSEHOLDS SAW THEIR INCOMES JUMP 45% VS. 26% UNDER REAGAN. The Gini index shot up 6.7% under Clinton, more than any other president since 1980.

http://news.investors.com/Article/590383/201111030805/Income-Inequality-Rose-Under-Clinton-Obama.htm

Now the first excuse I would expect to come out of the left is that it has risen under Obama because he left the Bush Tax cuts in place.  But that doesn’t work since the rich actually saw their income decline under Bush.  I think Obama’s Crony Capitalism is the cause.

2.  Colorado:  Bell Weather or a Fluke?

In the only state-wide tax increase on any state’s ballot this year, Colorado voters yesterday offered a resounding “No!".

Proposition 103 would have raised the state income tax rate from 4.63 percent to 5 percent, and the state sales tax from 2.9 percent to 3 percent, expecting to extract about $3 billion from Coloradoans over five years with the money earmarked for public education. THE MEASURE’S SUPPORTERS – PRIMARILY TEACHERS’ UNIONS – OUTRAISED (AND PRESUMABLY OUTSPENT) ITS OPPONENTS BY ABOUT 20-TO-1.

NEVERTHELESS, PROP 103 LOST BY A STUNNING MARGIN OF ALMOST 28 PERCENT, ROUGHLY 64 PERCENT AGAINST TO 36 PERCENT FOR, WITH ONLY TWO PERCENT OF THE BALLOTS LEFT TO BE COUNTED.

Although several small counties have not yet reported, at this point the measure has passed in only three of Colorado’s 64 counties, and they are exactly the three one might expect: Boulder (the center for tax-hiking liberals in the state and the home of the state senator whose baby Prop 103 was), Pitkin (location of Aspen), and San Miguel (location of Telluride.) Even in the perennially Democratic Denver, Prop 103 failed by seven percent.

The wide margin of defeat for Proposition 103 COULD ONLY HAPPEN WITH A SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY – SOMETHING ON THE ORDER OF TWO-THIRDS – OF UNAFFILIATED (INDEPENDENT) VOTERS OPPOSING THE MEASURE, SOMETHING WHICH PORTENDS WELL FOR REPUBLICAN HOPES IN 2012 ELECTIONS….

Living in Colorado you hear a lot from the lefties, but the numbers don’t look good for them.  This to me is a strong indication that the people are not happy with the economy and blame it on the current administration.  It also bodes ill for tax increasing democrats.

3.   Solyndra isn’t alone

Solyndra is being investigated by the FBI, but that may just be the tip of the shovel-ready iceberg.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY IS INVESTIGATING MORE THAN 100 POTENTIAL INSTANCES OF CRIMINAL ABUSE OF STIMULUS LOAN MONIES, ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT’S OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL.

In prepared testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Wednesday, Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman said his office has launched more than 100 probes into possible criminal activities related to the 2009 stimulus funds behind the loans. …

Now this isn’t something that will let you sleep well tonight.

4.   Ann Coulter on Herman Cain and the Charge of Sexual Harassment

….This is why the liberal website Politico ran with A STORY ON CAIN THAT HAD EVERYTHING -- a powerful black man, a Republican presidential candidate, the hint of sexuality -- EXCEPT FACTS.

All we learned was: About a decade ago, as many as two anonymous women accused Cain of making unspecified "inappropriate" remarks and one "inappropriate" gesture in the workplace. (We had more than that on John Edwards' mistress a year into the media's refusal to report that story.)

If the details helped liberals, we'd have the details.

TO HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE 1990S IS LIKE HAVING BEEN ACCUSED OF MOLESTING CHILDREN AT PRESCHOOLS IN THE 1980S OR ACCUSED OF BEING A WITCH IN MASSACHUSETTS IN THE 1690S.

In the 1990s, one plaintiff won a $50 million jury verdict against Wal-Mart on the grounds that a "hostile environment" was created by her supervisor's yelling at both male and female employees. In another case, a plaintiff won a $250,000 award for sexual harassment based on her complaint that a male colleague had reached for a pastry saying, "Nothing I like more in the morning than sticky buns," while "wriggl(ing)" his eyebrows.

It got so crazy that a 6-year-old boy was suspended from class for a day for kissing a classmate on the cheek, and a Goya painting had to be removed from a Penn State classroom because a professor complained that it constituted sexual harassment.

WITH NO STANDARD OTHER THAN THE SUBJECTIVE OFFENSE TAKEN BY THE ACCUSER, ABSOLUTELY ANYONE COULD BE CALLED A WITCH, I.E., A SEXUAL HARASSER. So it's striking that the only two conservative public figures accused of being witches both happened to be conservative blacks: Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain….

What I find most offensive is that it appears the left who claims to be supporters of minorities seems to pull out what is likely the MOST racists of charges, that is, that black men are intimidating white women.  In the past, Democrats would have lynched a black man for such a charge.  Today as Clarence Thomas said, we have a high tech lynching instead, but it’s still Democrats who are doing it.

5.   Worst President Since Before the Civil War

Three years ago, the people of the United States elected someone who has turned out to be the worst president since the pre-Civil War era. BARACK OBAMA, whether in economic matters, domestic affairs or international relations, HAS BEEN AN ABJECT FAILURE AND HAS SEVERELY JEOPARDIZED THE FUTURE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

This must be the focus and message of those seeking the Republican presidential nomination, who must not allow themselves to be focused on demeaning each other and sidetracked by falling for the usual tactics of the Democrat and media smear machines (epitomized by the latest specious attack on Herman Cain).

A cursory examination of Obama's overall record compared with other presidents reveals SOMEONE DRIVEN PURELY BY STATIST IDEOLOGY, WHOSE NARCISSISM RENDERS HIM INCAPABLE OF CHANGE REGARDLESS OF THE LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES. He does not seem to care what happens to the American people…..

An excellent article that gives you a number of factual comparisons between Obama, Reagan and FDR.  O doesn’t fare to well in the comparison.

6.  Obama fails all viability tests

LAST WEEK’S COLUMN ASSERTING THAT THE PRESIDENT IS UNELECTABLE HAS TRIGGERED STRONG RESPONSES. Democrats, in particular, seem to think my judgment is premature. It strikes them as ridiculous that anyone could make such a “bold prediction” so far in advance of the 2012 election. Hey, that’s what we do, as seasoned political professionals, as pollsters. But I must stress that I am not so much making a personal prediction as DRAWING AN INFORMED CONCLUSION BASED ON ALL THE NUMBERS AVAILABLE. I do this in each election cycle for other candidates, and it’s time to make the call on President Obama.

Whenever I have an incumbent client running for reelection, I insist on a viability study about a year out from the election — so, in the case of the presidential race, right about now. Anything that I do for my own, I should do for the opposition. So here goes. First, I look at THE POLLING RESULTS FROM TRADITIONAL “DESERVES REELECTION” QUESTIONS, the gold standard of viability testing. The most recent nationwide public poll I could find was one conducted by Quinnipiac University early last month. It showed 42 percent saying the president deserves reelection while 54 percent say he doesn’t. While this reelect number by itself is not necessarily a doomsday figure, IT’S THE 54 PERCENT ON THE CON SIDE THAT’S A KILLER. MOST OFTEN, THERE IS A LARGE UNDECIDED PERCENTAGE, BUT HERE IT’S ONLY 4 POINTS. VOTERS HAVE CLOSED THEIR MINDS — and the book on this president. It ensures that when Obama faces a Republican nominee, the undecided voters in early polling will eventually vote against an undeserved reelection….

This to me is a no brainer.  Right now Donald Duck could beat BHO.  He’s shown himself to be completely out of his league.

7.  The Case Against Cain

… Let’s sum up the “facts” as they are known right now. MOSTLY UNNAMED PEOPLE accused Herman Cain OF UNSPECIFIED CONDUCT which some people who will not specify the people or the conduct have DEEMED “INAPPROPRIATE.” And one of the unnamed people received a piddly $35,000 SEVERANCE PACKAGE ALMOST 15 YEARS AGO FOR UNSPECIFIED CONDUCT WHICH INCLUDED CONDUCT UNRELATED TO CAIN.

That’s what’s known now. Maybe actual facts will come out proving that Cain did something wrong, but those facts are not out now…

This is a cotton candy accusation.  There’s a lot less there than meets the eye.

8.  Occupy Update:  Occupy Oakland acts up again

It was not exactly insurrection, but the rowdies gathered in Oakland for a grandiosely-named "general strike" Wednesday, FINALLY GOT THE STREET ACTION THEY WANTED AFTER NIGHTFALL, building a bonfire in a downtown street with flames 15 feet high requiring police action to prevent damage and injury to property and buildings nearby. WHEN MISSILES WERE THROWN AT POLICE AND HIT SOME, THE POLICE MOVED IN WITH TEAR GAS AND PERCUSSION GRENADES. At about 1 AM, on a street adjacent to Frank Ogawa Plaza, a group of 200 to 300 officers faced off against 150 protesters, many of whom were carrying makeshift shields and taunting officers. At one point, the officers split into two groups. Protesters followed the officers, who ordered them to disperse.

Police then went around a building, surrounded the demonstrators and began firing tear gas….

…The local Bay Area media are bending over backwards in order to find positive things to say about these miscreants. "Mostly peaceful” -- which in my book means that it was it was violent, "the feces quotient is minimal” -- how much feces is acceptable to you?, and the like. This sort of propaganda brings to mind the old joke, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"…

When I look at the comparison of how these ‘protests’ compare in media coverage with the TEA Party, I find it enlightening, but hardly surprising.  The old joke is very applicable in this case.

9.   Wall Street Protesters Prove Most Academic Degrees Worthless Today

What will it take for parents to finally realize that it's a waste of time and money to save for their children's college education? Occupy Wall Street protesters over the nation are looking for forgiveness of their nearly one trillion dollars in student loan debt yet most of them can't find a job. INTERVIEWS WITH THOSE PROTESTERS SEEM TO ILLUSTRATE THAT MANY DON'T EVEN HAVE BASIC SKILLS TO EXPRESS A COHESIVE THOUGHT. I wrote a column recently comparing the 2011 protesters to the 1960's anti-Vietnam war crowd but while those earlier ones were afraid of going to war, the OCCUPY WALL STREETERS ARE AFRAID OF HAVING TO WORK FOR A LIVING.

College costs continue to spiral upward and a recent CBS News reported that, "The College Board reports roughly 56 percent of bachelor's degree recipients at public four-year schools last year graduated with debt, averaging about $22,000. At private nonprofit universities, 65 percent had debt, averaging around $28,000."

If you're studying to be a doctor or a lawyer than there's no doubt higher education is a prerequisite but BEING IN DEBT FOR $96,000 FOR A DEGREE IN WOMEN'S STUDIES OR ART HISTORY IS JUST PLAIN STUPID. One of the signs at the park where the protesters have been camping out reads, "Even in a good economy, I'm unemployable."…

… WHAT IS SO SAD ABOUT THE OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTESTS IS THE CLUELESSNESS OF THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THEM. If their brain cells were still working they would be looking with heavy skepticism at those celebrities joining them for photo ops and video segments. Most of them belong not to the 99% but rather they are the 1% hypocrites whom they should be hanging in effigy.

Consider their supporter billionaire Russell Simmons. He is basically A BANKER WHO PROMOTES HIS RUSH CARD FOR 9.95 A MONTH WHICH IS ALMOST DOUBLE THE $5 THAT BANK OF AMERICA WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THEIR DEBIT CARDS AND WHICH WAS LOUDLY BLASTED FOR THAT PLAN BY OWS….

http://www.irishexaminerusa.com/mt/2011/11/01/wall_street_protesters_prove_m.html

The Occupy Movement reminds me of a passage in James Michener’s book Centennial where he describes a dinosaur.  Michener didn’t think much of the dinosaur’s intellectual capacity, but talked of it having a sense of danger.  The actual protesters in the Occupy Movement don’t really know what they are against other than greed.  Much like that dinosaur in Michener’s book, they have a sense of danger, but aren’t sure what it is.

10.                    Obama Scandal Update:  Fast and Furious

…Today, BABEU'S OFFICE CONFIRMED TWO GUNS FOUND DURING A MASSIVE DRUG SMUGGLING BUST AGAINST THE SINALOA CARTEL IN PINAL COUNTY, WERE PROVIDED THROUGH OPERATION FAST AND FURIOUS.

"I am outraged our Federal Government has armed one of the largest and most dangerous of the Mexican drug cartels with as many as 2,000 high powered weapons. This is the same cartel we have been investigating for the past fifteen months for various crimes including a murder in my County. We have arrested 76 suspects and seized 108 weapons. We have now have learned two of the weapons we seized are in fact linked to Operation Fast and Furious. U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENT BRIAN TERRY WAS ONLY DOING HIS JOB WHEN HE WAS VICIOUSLY MURDERED BY MEXICAN BANDITS WITH FAST AND FURIOUS WEAPONS. Thankfully none of our members were murdered this time," Babeu tells Townhall….

In addition to this story, we now have 34 members of Congress as well as Governor Jan Brewer calling for Eric Holder’s resignation.

Obama's future

Obama sets a record

The Obama administration passed another fiscal milestone this week, according to new data released by the Treasury Department. As of the close of business on Oct. 3, the total national debt was $14,837,099,271,196.71—up about $44.8 billion from Sept. 30.

That means that in the less-than-three-years Obama has been in office, the federal debt has increased by $4.212 trillion--more than the total national debt of about $4.1672 trillion accumulated by all 41 U.S. presidents from George Washington through George H.W. Bush combined.

This $4.212-trillion increase in the national debt means that during Obama’s term the federal government has already borrowed about an additional $35,835 for every American household--or $44,980 for every full-time private-sector worker. (According to the Census Bureau there were about 117,538,000 households in the country in 2010, and, according to the BLS, there were about 93,641,000 full-time private-sector workers.)…

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/obama-has-now-increased-debt-more-all-presidents-george-washington-through-george-hw

This was the guy who was going to put on the green eye shade and make the hard spending decisions.  Obama is a disaster.

ABO (Anybody but Obama) leads Obama

A GENERIC REPUBLICAN NOW HOLDS A SIX-POINT ADVANTAGE OVER PRESIDENT OBAMA in a hypothetical 2012 match-up for the week ending Sunday, October 2.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds the generic Republican earning 47% support, while the president picks up 41% of the vote. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording.)…

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/generic_presidential_ballot/election_2012_generic_presidential_ballot

Obama has not gotten above 40-45 percent against a generic Republican.  Why is this bad for Obama?  If someone said would you remarry your wife and you answer “I’m undecided,” it wouldn’t bode well for your marriage.

Lowest Poll yet for Obama

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA'S DISAPPROVAL RATING HIT AN ALL-TIME HIGH OF 55 PERCENT IN A NEW POLL FROM QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY, and in the most troubling poll news for Obama to date, independent voters disapprove of Obama's job performance by a 56-38 margin.

APPROVAL OF OBAMA'S HANDLING OF THE ECONOMY — certain to be the most significant issue in the coming election — HIT ANOTHER RECORD LOW AT 32 PERCENT, WITH 64 PERCENT DISAPPROVING.

Additionally, an overwhelming majority of Americans believe the country is in a recession, with little confidence the economy will recover anytime soon.

A full 43 percent of Americans trust congressional Republicans more on the economy, compared to 41 percent for Obama. The results are a statistical tie — the first time Obama has not led on the issue ever. This is particularly telling given that just 23 percent of Americans approve of congressional Republicans' job performance….

http://www.businessinsider.com/new-poll-has-the-worst-news-yet-for-obama-2011-10#ixzz1a0NTqhoM

BHO keeps dropping and dropping.

Solyndra:  Administration was considering giving them another loan

Newly released e-mails show the Obama administration’s Energy Department was poised to give Solyndra a second taxpayer loan of $469 million last year, even as the company’s financial situation grew increasingly dire.

The department was still considering providing the second loan guarantee to the solar-panel manufacturer in April and May 2010, at a time when Solyndra’s auditors were already warning that the company was in danger of collapsing….

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/solyndra-e-mails-dept-of-energy-was-poised-to-approve-469-million-for-firm/2011/10/05/gIQA0IvgNL_story.html?hpid=z2

Perhaps green in this case meant the experience level of the people in the Energy Department.

Elizabeth Warren and liberalism, twisting the ‘social contract’

Elizabeth Warren, Harvard law professor and former Obama administration regulator (for consumer protection), is MODERN LIBERALISM INCARNATE. As she seeks the Senate seat Democrats held for 57 years before 2010, when Republican Scott Brown impertinently won it, she clarifies the liberal project and the stakes of contemporary politics.

THE PROJECT IS TO DILUTE THE CONCEPT OF INDIVIDUALISM, thereby refuting respect for the individual’s zone of sovereignty. THE REGULATORY STATE, LIBERALISM’S INSTRUMENT, CONSTANTLY TRIES TO CONTRACT THAT ZONE — FOR THE INDIVIDUAL’S OWN GOOD, IT SAYS. Warren says:

“There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own.  Nobody. You built a factory out there — good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. . . . You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea — God bless, keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

WARREN IS (AS WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY DESCRIBED HARVARD ECONOMIST JOHN KENNETH GALBRAITH) A PYROMANIAC IN A FIELD OF STRAW MEN: SHE REFUTES PROPOSITIONS NO ONE ASSERTS. Everyone knows that all striving occurs in a social context, so all attainments are conditioned by their context. This does not, however, entail a collectivist political agenda….

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/elizabeth-warren-and-liberalism-twisting-the-social-contract/2011/10/04/gIQAXi5VOL_story.html

The straw man argument is one used extensively by the left.  Obama is a master at it (he’s always telling us “they say” when what he means is he about to say something, so he can refute it and seem middle of the road.  Warren’s argument about the rich is nonsense.  We all build the roads, but we pay for them based on our usage.  That millionaires is paying his fair share just as you or I are.  Same with the fire and police and education.  We all benefit and we all pay.  Warren seems to think that some should pay more than others for public services because they can.

What I Saw at the Revolution

After spending two days at the epicenter of the Occupy Wall Street campout, I HAVE YET TO ENCOUNTER ANYBODY WITH A SERIOUS PLATFORM, OR TO GLEAN ANY COHERENT SENSE OF WHY THEY ARE THERE. The terminal vagueness which is the hallmark of the demonstration was best articulated by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in 2004’s Team America, in which a disgruntled and effusive Tim Robbins puppet complains that, “the corporations sit there in their… in their corporation buildings, and… and, and see, they’re all corporation-y… and they make money.” This is a sentiment I have heard repeatedly from attendees, almost verbatim. It is always accompanied by derisive gestures toward the skyscrapers towering overhead, whose construction, I am informed without irony by the union members who have now got in on the action, is a source of well-paying union jobs.

When I try to transcend the inchoate vitriol and ask WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS?, INDIGNATION TURNS QUICKLY TO SILENCE, OR FRUSTRATION — OR BOTH.

In truth, THOSE CAMPED OUT IN ZUCCOTTI PARK ARE RUNNING A COMMUNE MORE THAN A PROTEST. They have established a small communitarian village, which is punctuated by a small cabal of the angry, the insane, and the ignorant. Nothing I have seen is representative of a serious movement, and even less is indicative of any substantive thought….

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/279373/what-i-saw-revolution-charles-c-w-cooke

The left keeps looking for a movement to counter the TEA Party.  Unfortunately this isn’t it.  The importation of Unions takes it from a grass roots movement to one that is being co-opted by one of the major components of the Democratic Party.  Not surprisingly a few Democrat congressmen have come out in support.  I guess will have to see if there becomes an OWS caucus started in congress.  Probably not.

This is what a mob looks like

This is what a Mob Looks Like

I am not the first to note the vast differences between the Wall Street protesters and the tea partiers. To name three: The tea partiers have jobs, showers and a point.

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE WALL STREET PROTESTERS WANT – AS IS TYPICAL OF MOBS. They say they want Obama re-elected, but claim to hate “Wall Street.” You know, the same Wall Street that gave its largest campaign donation in history to Obama, who, in turn, bailed out the banks and made Goldman Sachs the fourth branch of government.

This would be like opposing fattening, processed foods, but cheering Michael Moore – which the protesters also did this week.

But to me, the most striking difference between the tea partiers and the “Occupy Wall Street” crowd – besides the smell of patchouli – is HOW LIBERAL PROTESTERS MUST CLAIM THEIR EVERY GATHERING IS HISTORIC AND HEROIC.

They chant: “The world is watching!” “This is how democracy looks!” “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for!”

At the risk of acknowledging that I am, in fact, “watching,” THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT HOW DEMOCRACY LOOKS…..

  http://rightwingnews.com/liberals/this-is-what-a-mob-looks-like/

Ann Coulter makes a very good point.  This is how democracy looks.

Texting while Driving:  You were right, it’s dangerous

TEXTING OR EMAILING WHILE DRIVING IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT, ACCORDING TO A NEW STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOR.

"Essentially texting while driving doubles a driver's reaction time," Christine Yager, who led the study at Texas A&M University's Texas Transportation Institute, told Reuters on Wednesday.

"That makes a driver less able to respond to sudden roadway dangers."

For the study, 42 drivers between the ages of 16 and 54 drove on an 11-mile test track course while sending or receiving text messages, and drove it again while focusing completely on the road.

Drivers were asked to stop when they saw a flashing yellow light, and their reaction times were recorded, Yager said.

THE TYPICAL TIME IT TOOK A DRIVER WHO WAS NOT TEXTING TO RESPOND TO THE FLASHING LIGHT WAS ONE TO TWO SECONDS. BUT WHEN THE DRIVER WAS TEXTING, THE REACTION TIME EXTENDED TO THREE TO FOUR SECONDS, AND THE TEXTING MOTORIST WAS 11 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO MISS THE FLASHING LIGHT ALTOGETHER….

I don’t know what idiot thought it was okay to do this, but there are some.  Of course the Darwin theory says they will be culled out of the herd.

Obama Scandal Update:  Fast and Furious

So now the FAST AND FURIOUS AFFAIR HAS REACHED STAGE 2 OF THE CLASSIC WASHINGTON SCANDAL: House Republicans have called for a special counsel to investigate Attorney General Eric Holder himself for possible perjury.

Justice Department documents indicate that Holder knew of the operation way back in July 2010 -- far earlier than the “in the last few weeks” that he told congressional investigators under oath last May.

Memos from Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer and others to Holder clearly show the scope, if not the nature, of the disastrous project: “This investigation, initiated in September 2009 . . . involves . . . straw purchasers [who] are responsible for the purchase of 1,500 firearms that were then supplied to Mexican drug cartels.”…

…The heavily redacted memos don’t explicitly implicate ATF and other federal agencies in an illegal scheme, as ATF whistleblowers have alleged. But if there’s a coverup going on, why would they?

AND COVERUP THERE SEEMS TO BE. ON TOP OF STONEWALLING REP. DARRELL ISSA’S HOUSE INVESTIGATION OF THE MESS, JUSTICE HAS FLOATED A SERIES OF CONTRADICTORY EXCUSES:

* There was no such program.

* Even if there were, Holder never knew about it.

* Even if he should have known about it, he might not have read Breuer’s memos.

* Even if he read Breuer’s memos, he misunderstood the simple question: “When did you first know about the program, officially, I believe, called Fast and Furious?”

Obama, Fast and Furious, and Evita

7 in 10 say Obama hasn’t helped the Economy

A new CBS News poll finds that nearly seven in 10 Americans believe President Obama has not made real progress in fixing the economy.

Sixty-nine percent say the president has not made real progress on the economy, which voters overwhelmingly cite as their most important issue. Twenty-five percent say he has made real progress.

Perceptions are not improving. The percentage who said Mr. Obama has made real progress has dropped 10 points from a survey 13 months ago, when 35 percent said he had made real progress.

Just 35 percent of Americans approve of Mr. Obama's handling of the economy, and his approval rating on the issue has been below 40 percent since February….

Obama says he likes being the underdog.  However with these kinds of numbers, he is simply the dog in this race.

Media Silence is Deafening About Gun News

there were 14% fewer murders in Chicago compared to the first six months of last year – back when owning handguns was illegal. IT WAS THE LARGEST DROP IN CHICAGO’S MURDER RATE SINCE THE HANDGUN BAN WENT INTO EFFECT IN 1982.

Barack “Evita” Obama

… THE PERONS WERE THE OBAMAS OF THEIR DAY. They were popular, good looking, loved initially by the media, and socially progressive in a way that stood Argentina on its head. IN THE COURSE OF THEIR REIGN, THE PERONS MANAGED DEPLETE THE NATIONAL TREASURY, ALIENATE BUSINESS AND FOREIGN (ESPECIALLY BRITISH) INVESTORS BY NATIONALIZING INDUSTRIES, PUSHED FOR HIGHER TAXES ON THE RICH, CREATED AN ENTIRE CLASS OF PEOPLE DEPENDENT OF GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS, AND ALIGN ARGENTINA WITH THE FASCISTS AND NAZIS (both forms of Socialism) during the Second World War. During this time Evita was spending public monies on clothes, jewelry, and European tours, justified as the price of being the "Spiritual Leader of the Nation" as she was later christened after her death. All the while her supporters where marching on the homes of opponents and destroying the offices of newspapers critical to the regime. Notwithstanding, the Perons did embrace the Suffragette movement and created a national identity for Argentina in the post-World War Two era, but for a price.

This leads me to the recent pronouncements in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the Chief Executive need to feel, to quote a song from Evita, "High flying, adored!" IT IS HARD NOT TO SEE OBAMA'S NEED FOR ADORATION EVERY TIME HE PREACHES TO THE MASSES CALLING FOR MORE AUSTERITY FROM BUSINESSES AND THE MIDDLE CLASS, WHILE THE FIRST COUPLE VACATIONS AT MARTHA'S VINEYARD AND HAWAII (not that there is anything wrong with either place mind you!). What good for thee is not good for me appears to be the Obama mindset. The President has taken a page right out of Evita: tax millionaires, spread the wealth, vilify investors, embrace international terrorist states/organizations, and hype the masses into putting on their "marching shoes" to encourager les autres! All the while, creating a cult of personality that has people and the media believing he is a living god who can stop the oceans from rising….

This was an interesting comparison between Evita and Barack.

  Math You Can Believe In

….President Obama also said: "THIS IS NOT CLASS WARFARE; IT IS MATH." Okay, let's do some simple math. LET'S LOOK AT WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH THE $535 MILLION IN TAXPAYER DOLLARS THAT OBAMA "INVESTED" IN JUST THAT ONE SOLYNDRA DEAL ALONE. If you were to take the salary of one gardener who has 45 clients at $80 each per month, his earnings would add up to 3,600 per month, or $43,200 per year. This means that if THE $535 MILLION THAT WAS CARELESSLY WASTED ON THE SOLYNDRA DEAL HAD BEEN LEFT IN THE HANDS OF THE TAXPAYERS, IT THEORETICALLY COULD HAVE BEEN USED TO PAY THE ANNUAL SALARY OF ABOUT 12,384 GARDENERS. How does that stack up to the 1,100 who just lost their jobs at the luxurious Solyndra plants that built solar panels for twice the amount that they were able to sell them for?

IT LOOKS MORE LIKE WE'RE SWAPPING TEMPORARY "GREEN JOBS" FOR REAL "GREEN JOBS" and at an exchange rate that is much, much less than desirable. And that is only the tip of the iceberg when you look into the green energy dealings of the Obama administration. THE ADMINISTRATION HAS JUST APPROVED ANOTHER $5 BILLION (OR ABOUT 115,740 GARDENERS FOR REFERENCE) IN LOAN GUARANTEES FOR THESE TYPES OF PROGRAMS, including one to an enterprise that Nancy Pelosi’s brother-in-law is tied to (can you spell c-r-o-n-y?). And as I write, there is new news that the $500-million green jobs training program came up short on its go…

An interesting analogy that shows you want a stupid caretaker of the people’s money Obama and the Democrats actually are.

Obama Scandals Update:  People died and Holder Lied

“New documents obtained by CBS News show ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER WAS SENT BRIEFINGS ON THE CONTROVERSIAL FAST AND FURIOUS OPERATION AS FAR BACK AS JULY 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress,” msnbcnews.com reports. “On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, ‘I’M NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATE, BUT I PROBABLY HEARD ABOUT FAST AND FURIOUS FOR THE FIRST TIME OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS.’ Yet internal Justice Department documents show that at least ten months before that hearing, Holder began receiving frequent memos discussing Fast and Furious.” HOLDER NOW CLAIMS HE “MISUNDERSTOOD” THE “WHEN DID YOU FIRST KNOW ABOUT F&F” QUESTION . . .

Well he would say that, wouldn’t he? Lying to a Congressional committee is called perjury, an offense for which Holder may be impeached and, yes, prosecuted. His career is toast and his peeps are in full damage control mode. IN THE LAST FEW HOURS, THEY’VE OFFERED THREE EXCUSES FOR HIS DEMONSTRABLY FALSE TESTIMONY….

Watergate number dead 0.  IranContra number dead 0.  Fast and Furious number dead 93.  You be the judge.

The Occupy Wall Street Movement Sure Is White

Remember when the media was obsessed with how many minority members attended Tea Parties?

While Samuel L. Jackson is calling the Tea Party racist, the Daily Caller reports that # Occupy WallStreet is desperate to attract minorities.

Will the media report that the #OccupyWallStreet protesters are as white as Joe Biden’s hair plugs?...

Talk about a pathetic bunch.  They have no idea that what they are calling for is total and complete anarchy.

Fast and Furious is getting faster and more furious

White House Scandal Update:  Fast and Furious

Late Friday, the White House turned over new documents in the Congressional investigation into the ATF "Fast and Furious" gunwalking scandal.

The DOCUMENTS SHOW EXTENSIVE COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THEN-ATF SPECIAL AGENT IN CHARGE OF THE PHOENIX OFFICE BILL NEWELL - WHO LED FAST AND FURIOUS - AND THEN-WHITE HOUSE NATIONAL SECURITY STAFFER KEVIN O'REILLY. Emails indicate the two also spoke on the phone. Such detailed, direct communications between a local ATF manager in Phoenix and a White House national security staffer has raised interest among Congressional investigators looking into Fast and Furious. Newell has said he and O'Reilly are long time friends.

ATF agents say that in Fast and Furious, their agency allowed thousands of assault rifles and other weapons to be sold to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels. At least two of the guns turned up at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry last December.

The email exchanges span a little over a month last summer. They discuss ATF's gun trafficking efforts along the border including the controversial Fast and Furious case, though not by name. The emails to and from O'Reilly indicate more than just a passing interest in the Phoenix office's gun trafficking cases. They do not mention specific tactics such as "letting guns walk."

A lawyer for the White House wrote Congressional investigators: "none of the communications between ATF and the White House revealed the investigative law enforcement tactics at issue in your inquiry, let alone any decision to allow guns to 'walk.'"

AMONG THE DOCUMENTS PRODUCED: AN EMAIL IN WHICH ATF'S NEWELL SENT THE WHITE HOUSE'S O'REILLY AN "ARROW CHART REFLECTING THE ULTIMATE DESTINATION OF FIREARMS WE INTERCEPTED AND/OR WHERE THE GUNS ENDED UP." The chart shows arrows leading from Arizona to destinations all over Mexico

This scandal is becoming more and more serious.  People died as a result of the actions of people in the government.  It appears we probably need a special prosecutor.

Progressives and Liberty

Progressive Utopia
Progressive Governance:  Say goodbye to liberty

Liberals have isolated the problem in American politics today: THERE IS JUST TOO MUCH DEMOCRACY. THE INCESSANT DEMANDS OF THE UNWASHED MASSES ARE FAR TOO DISTRACTING FOR THE PHILOSOPHER KINGS IN THE GOVERNMENT TO GET ANY WORK DONE.

North Carolina Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue now claims she was joking when she suggested that congressional elections be suspended to remove the inconvenient pressure of public opinion from the backs of harried legislators. "I THINK WE OUGHT TO SUSPEND, PERHAPS, ELECTIONS FOR CONGRESS FOR TWO YEARS AND JUST TELL THEM WE WON'T HOLD IT AGAINST THEM, WHATEVER DECISIONS THEY MAKE, TO JUST LET THEM HELP THIS COUNTRY RECOVER," she said this week. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."…

…Former White House Budget Director Peter Orszag chimed in this week with his suggestion that to solve the country's problems, "we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, WE NEED TO COUNTER THE GRIDLOCK OF OUR POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS BY MAKING THEM A BIT LESS DEMOCRATIC." Mr. Orszag is attempting to make a virtue out of cowardice, allowing legislators to hand off the hard questions to others while retaining their seats in Congress to hand out favors and make ceremonial proclamations. Despite Mr. Orszag's romantic pretensions, this escapism is anything but radical; it is an incumbent-protection program.

CALIFORNIANS WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO MULL OVER A TRULY RADICAL PROGRAM COURTESY OF THE THINK LONG COMMITTEE. This group is proposing the formation of a 21-member independent body appointed to six-year terms to serve as a type of government overseer. THE COMMITTEE - WHICH WOULD BE FREE TO FOCUS ON THE BIG PICTURE RATHER THAN ENGAGING IN ENDLESS CRISIS MANAGEMENT - WOULD HAVE THE POWER TO PROPOSE LEGISLATION, PUT INITIATIVES ON THE BALLOT AND, MOST IMPORTANT, SUBPOENA AND INVESTIGATE GOVERNMENT PERFORMANCE. Thus, rather than representatives having to fawn over voters, they would instead learn to fear the investigative arm of this unelected committee. You don't have to think very long to see how this type of power could be abused. Men are not angels, as James Madison reminded. If implemented, Think Long's proposal would simply hasten the spiraling decline of the Golden State…

I wish I could say these were the ramblings of some far out left wing kooks.  But it isn’t.  These are the mainstream attitudes of the Progressive movement.  They believe in the power of expertise, and like most people who think they have the answer they don’t like to be challenged and stymied.  We separated church and state in our Constitution because history showed us what happens when political power is wedded to “moral” authority.  We designed our constitution to have checks and balances to prevent a dictatorship of any branch, person or movement.  We were designed to have gridlock, because gridlock is superior to the alternative of tyranny.

Barney Frank, no Fed dissent will do

“IF TWO PEOPLE ALWAYS AGREE,” SAYS BEN BERNANKE, “ONE OF THEM IS REDUNDANT.” So, imagine what the Federal Reserve chairman thinks of Rep. Barney Frank’s legislation designed to dampen dissent within the Fed.

FOND OF DIVERSITY IN EVERYTHING BUT THOUGHT, A CERTAIN KIND OF LIBERAL FAVORS MANDATORY HARMONY (e.g., campus speech codes). Such liberals, being realists at least about the strength of their arguments, discourage “too much” debate about them (e.g., restrictions on campaign spending to disseminate political advocacy). Now FRANK WANTS TO STRIP THE PRESIDENTS OF THE FED’S 12 REGIONAL BANKS OF THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE AS MEMBERS OF THE POLICYMAKING FEDERAL OPEN MARKET COMMITTEE.

Five presidents are permitted to vote at any one time, and Frank’s bill is partly a response to three of them voting incorrectly, in his opinion. In August, the FOMC voted 7 to 3 in favor of an indefinite extension of the very low interest rates of the past three years.

Frank says he has “long been troubled” from a “theoretical democratic standpoint” by the “anomaly” of important decisions affecting national economic policy being made by persons “selected with absolutely no public scrutiny or confirmation.” IT WAS NOT, HOWEVER, UNTIL AUGUST THAT THIS AFFRONT TO FRANK’S DEMOCRATIC SENSIBILITIES BECAME SO INTOLERABLE THAT HE PROPOSED A LEGISLATIVE REMEDY. …

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/for-barney-frank-no-fed-dissent-will-do/2011/09/27/gIQAWlne5K_story.html

Barney Frank is already the godfather of the current recession.  I think we need a legislative remedy to his being in congress.  Perhaps we should start an investigation into his relationship with Fannie and Freddie and how that influenced his stances.

The Tea Party: the adults in the room

Democrats have effectively turned "tea party" into a pejorative, making the words conjure a rigid, uncompromising movement that is at the root of Washington's dysfunction.

YOU WON'T HEAR A DEMOCRATIC MOUTH OPEN TODAY WITHOUT A SLUR AGAINST THE TEA PARTY SPILLING OUT.

What are these Republican revolutionaries doing that Dems find so divisive and dangerous?

Best I can tell, their major offense is holding Washington accountable. Listen to them, as I did on Mackinac Island last week during the Republican Leadership Conference, and THE ONLY DEMAND YOU HEAR IS THAT POLITICIANS STOP MORTGAGING AMERICA'S FUTURE TO RECKLESS SPENDING AND SWELLING DEFICITS.

All they want is for politicians to finally do what both Democrats and Republicans always said they'd do — make the government live within its means — but never got around to doing until the tea party forced their hand.

In other words, the tea party is the adult in a roomful of overindulged children who resent the call to accountability. How much greater would the debt be today, how much larger the deficit, if the tea party hadn't shouted, "Enough!" …

http://detnews.com/article/20110929/OPINION03/109290333/Tea-party-gets-bad-rap-for-telling-truth#ixzz1ZLZoIxR5

This is the awful truth.  The people who are telling the truth and demanding sane behavior from our politicians are pilloried for doing so.

Who should voters blame?

VP Joe Biden told Florida radio station WLRN on Thursday that VOTERS SHOULD HOLD PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, NOT FORMER PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH, ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE POOR STATE OF AMERICA’S ECONOMY.

Conservative PAC American Crossroads circulated the startling statement Thursday afternoon, expecting it will take Democratic campaign strategists by surprise.

“Right now, understandably — totally legitimate — THIS IS A REFERENDUM ON OBAMA AND BIDEN AND THE NATURE OF THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY,” BIDEN SAID.

Polls indicating that more Americans blame Bush for the economy than Obama are not relevant, Biden said.

“Even though fifty-some percent of the American people think that the economy tanked because of the last administration, that’s not relevant,” Biden stressed. “What’s relevant is we’re in charge. And right now we are the ones in charge and it’s gotten better, but it hasn’t gotten good enough.”

“I don’t blame them for being mad. We’re in charge,” Biden explained….

Something like this from Biden may indicate that Obama will drop out. By taking the blame, they would clear the way for Hillary Clinton to run free of the blame for the economy.

Obama Scandal Update:  Fast and Furious

This just might be the smoking gun we’ve been waiting for to break the festering “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal wide open: the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives apparently ordered one of its own agents to purchase firearms with taxpayer money, and sell them directly to a Mexican drug cartel.

Let that sink in: AFTER MONTHS OF PRETENDING THAT “FAST AND FURIOUS” WAS A BOTCHED SURVEILLANCE OPERATION OF ILLEGAL GUN-RUNNING SPEARHEADED BY THE ATF AND THE US ATTORNEY’S OFFICE IN PHOENIX, IT TURNS OUT THAT THE GOVERNMENT ITSELF WAS SELLING GUNS TO THE BAD GUYS.

Agent John Dodson was ordered to buy four Draco pistols for cash and even got a letter from his supervisor, David Voth, authorizing a federally licensed gun dealer to sell him the guns without bothering about the necessary paperwork.

“Please accept this letter in lieu of completing an ATF Form 4473 for the purchase of four (4) CAI, Model Draco, 7.62x39 mm pistols, by Special Agent John Dodson,” read the June 1, 2010, letter. “THESE AFOREMENTIONED PISTOLS WILL BE USED BY SPECIAL AGENT DODSON IN FURTHERANCE OF PERFORMANCE OF HIS OFFICIAL DUTIES.”

On orders, DODSON THEN SOLD THE GUNS TO KNOWN CRIMINALS, who first stashed them away and then -- deliberately unhindered by the ATF or any other agency -- whisked them off to Mexico.

People were killed with Fast and Furious weapons, including at least two American agents and hundreds of Mexicans. And the taxpayers picked up the bill….

This scandal is getting more and more sordid.  Be sure to read the article to see what the conjecture of the author is as to why this happened.
