Truth, Justice and the American Way--1/20/2013

What’s new Today

Story #1 looks at Obama and the truth and determines that are strangers.  #2 is an interesting look at why the Obama campaign may have gone after Ann Romney.  #3 Democratic Senator Jim Webb looks at Obamacare and sees a lack of leadership by President Obama.  #4 looks at the GSA scandal and wonders why anyone wants to make government larger.  #5 looks at the book A Righteous Mind.  It appears to be a good look at the difference between liberals and conservatives.  #6 looks at Eisenhower’s other warning (besides the military industrial complex)in his farewell address.

Today’s thoughts

From a study in 2010 some frightening statistics.  A majority of people don’t know the name of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.  More frightening?  Eight percent named Thurgood Marshall, who not only was never the Chief Justice but also died in 1993. And let’s not even talk about the four percent who think Harry Reid, a Senator not a member of the Supreme Court, is the Chief Justice.

With the attack on Ann Romney we’ve heard leftist claim she had nannies to help her.  Actually according to her children they didn’t.  But Barack Obama was raised by a nanny while he was living in Indonesia.

The Hitler movie is back only this time it’s about Barack and his eating Hitler’s dog.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEBN8wOKjMo

First time jobless claims were up again for the second straight week.  Unless a lot of people drop out of the labor market we will see a tick up in unemployment.

1.   Are Obama and the Truth Strangers?

George Will writes that "Barack Obama's intellectual sociopathy -- his often breezy and sometimes loutish indifference to truth -- should no longer startle." But why do Obama and his supporters feel no compunction when they do so? And does this pattern provide an opportunity for Mitt Romney to gather votes in November?

As has often been commented, all of Barack Obama's promises come with an expiration date. They range from the relatively minor to the truly majestic such as his promise that he would not raise taxes for those families earning under $250,000 a year and that he would cut the deficit in half.

He peddled a world of wonders that would flow from passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The fabrications started early -- even in the very name of the act. Patients are not protected: not only will they not be able to keep their current plans if they like them, as he promised (businesses have been dropping company plans in reaction to Obamacare), but their care will fall under the control of the Independent Payment Advisory Board that may just decide that various medical procedures are not covered -- and, incidentally, the people on this board are "unelected." Where is the Patient Protection?

Nor is the Act "affordable". Obama pledges that the Act would cut the deficit and bend the cost curve downward have been shown to be false…

Expect to see a lot of this kind of information.  This is the Republican campaign plan.  Simply remind everyone (in Obama’s own words) what was promised and then show what was delivered.

2.  The Attack on Ann Romney

… Ann Romney's oldest son Tagg was baffled why anyone would attack his mom when he was interviewed  by Hugh Hewitt about growing up in the Romney home. Ann stayed home and raised their five sons and now has the joy of 16 grandkids….

… Somehow Ann Romney also found time and energy to do non-paid work helping children in need. Her work outside the home has been devoted to at-risk youth, inner city girls, third world children, equine therapy programs for physically challenged children, literacy for children, the American Red Cross and the Perkins School for the Blind. She has also worked outside the home promoting advocacy and research for a cure for cancer and multiple sclerosis (two terrible illnesses she has suffered from herself). She is also a national prize-winning athlete as an equestrian, her personal lifelong passion. An admirable, good woman.

So why would the Obama campaign want to pick on her?

It was certainly purposeful. The White House chose a top political operative to attack Ann Romney. Hilary Rosen is somebody. She has visited the White House 35 times. She has had five personal work sessions with Obama, as well as meeting with Valerie Jarret and David Axelrod...

… For Obama, the politics of envy is more than a campaign strategy. Envy gnaws at his core. Envy is alive and personal. As we hear in speech after speech, Obama sees America as an unfair place where the fortunate live at the expense of the unfortunate. Envy and grievance give his life meaning, they give him a cause….

http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/04/why_do_they_want_to_pick_on_ann_romney.html#ixzz1sTPurXps

I recommend reading this piece in its entirety. With the upbringing of Barack Obama it is a miracle that he turned out as well as he did.  But there are a lot of demons in his background which explain a lot of the faults we are seeing.

3. Obamacare:  Lessons in a Lack of Leadership

President Obama’s new health-care law will be his greatest liability as he attempts to once again win the critical swing state of Virginia, Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) warned Wednesday.

“I’ll be real frank here,” Webb said at a breakfast organized by Bloomberg News. “I think that the manner in which the health-care reform issue was put in front of the Congress, the way that the issue was dealt with by the White House, cost Obama a lot of credibility as a leader.”

Webb voted for the law, but also for more than a dozen GOP-offered amendments to it.

“If you were going to do something of this magnitude, you have to do it with some clarity, with a clear set of objectives from the White House,” added Webb, who opted not to run for a second term this year. “...It should have been done with better direction from the White House.”

He faulted Obama for playing too passive a role in shaping the legislation. Taking a lesson from Bill Clinton’s failed 1994 health-care overhaul effort--which was faulted for its micromanagement of the details of the bill--Obama opted to spell out a broad set of goals, and let Congress work out the details.

What happened in the end, Webb said, “was five different congressional committees voted out their version of health-care reform, and so you had 7,000 pages of contradictory information. Everybody got confused. ... From that point forward, Obama’s had a difficult time selling himself as a decisive leader.”

Webb also said that if Obama had opted for a smaller measure, he would have stood a chance of winning the support of a significant number of Republicans on Capitol Hill...

Obamacare is a major problem for Obama.  The American public was horrified by the way it was passed and Obama role in it was disgraceful.

4.  GSA:  A Lesson about Big Government

Congressional lawmakers grilled General Services Administration officials for a third straight day Wednesday about a rogue employee's penchant for lavish, taxpayer-funded junkets, unearthing evidence that the waste, fraud and abuse is more common and has been going on much longer than first indicated.

Over the last six years, the GSA, which is in charge of the federal government's real estate holdings, has been racked repeatedly by financial kickbacks, insider dealing and general incompetence, lawmakers said.

Just last year, seven GSA employees were found guilty of accepting bribes and defrauding the government in a scheme that cost taxpayers $750,000. Other GSA scandals date back to the Carter administration in the 1970s.

"It really shakes you up," said Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., who chaired a Senate inquiry Wednesday. "The expression is fool me once, but again and again?"

Senators Wednesday marveled at the scope of the latest scandal. A regional commissioner, Jeff Neely, spent $823,000 on a conference for GSA employees in Las Vegas in October 2010 and appears to have a long history of freely spending taxpayers' money on leisure trips and perks and other questionable expenses.

The GSA's Inspector General, Brian Miller, who has been investigating Neely since November 2010, said he learns of new abuses nearly daily. He told the Senate committee he just discovered that Neely's wife, Deborah, "had a parking space throughout the year" at the federal building where Neely worked, even though she doesn't work for the government.

Wasteful spending was embedded in the culture of some GSA departments, in particular Neely's, where the management for years planned annual conferences with the chief goal of outdoing the previous year's event, Miller said.

The Las Vegas conference Neely planned included loft hotel suites, lavish parties, a mind reader and clown for entertainment and commemorative coins in velvet boxes for the 300 attendees.

While the Las Vegas event was described as "over the top," even by Neely, it was apparently nothing new, Miller said….

This is an example of the problems with big government.  The “Yes We Can” chant takes on a whole new meaning when you see exactly what they can do with our money.

5.  The Righteous Mind

…You’re smart. You’re liberal. You’re well informed. You think conservatives are narrow-minded. You can’t understand why working-class Americans vote Republican. You figure they’re being duped. You’re wrong.

This isn’t an accusation from the right. It’s a friendly warning from Jonathan Haidt, a social psychologist at the University of Virginia who, until 2009, considered himself a partisan liberal. In “The Righteous Mind,” Haidt seeks to enrich liberalism and political discourse generally, with a deeper awareness of human nature. Politics isn’t just about manipulating people who disagree with you. It’s about learning from them.

The problem isn’t that people don’t reason. They do reason. But their arguments aim to support their conclusions, not yours. Reason doesn’t work like a judge or teacher, impartially weighing evidence or guiding us to wisdom. It works more like a lawyer or press secretary, justifying our acts and judgments to others.

Faith, patriotism, valor, chastity, law and order — these Republican themes touch all six moral foundations, whereas Democrats, in Haidt’s analysis, focus almost entirely on care and fighting oppression. This is Haidt’s startling message to the left: When it comes to morality, conservatives are more broad-minded than liberals. They serve a more varied diet.

The hardest part, Haidt finds, is getting liberals to open their minds. And in a survey of 2,000 Americans, Haidt found that self-described liberals, especially those who called themselves “very liberal,” were worse at predicting the moral judgments of moderates and conservatives than moderates and conservatives were at predicting the moral judgments of liberals. Liberals don’t understand conservative values. And they can’t recognize this failing, because they’re so convinced of their rationality, open-mindedness and enlightenment….

This is especially hard for the left to accept since they view themselves as the open minded ones.  Apparently they aren’t.

6.  Eisenhower’s Other Warning

…Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central, it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present – and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system – ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society….

The left likes to remind us of the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about.  But he also warned us about a government research complex that subordinates good science to government whims.  Perhaps foreseeing the AGW dilemma we find ourselves in, Eisenhower recognized the corrupting influence government money could bring to science.

The Debates go on

What’s new today

Our # 1 through #4 stories are about the Republican debate last night.  #4 is my own take on what Governor Rick Perry could have said when he drew a blank on the third agency he would shut down.  Stories 5 and 6 are about the sexual harassment charges against Herman Cain.  Ann Coulter writes a wicked piece which points the finger at David Axelrod.  #7 relates what Chris Rock tells us about an Obama second term.  And our final story #8 tells us that those condemning salt are wrong.

1.   Romney and Gingrich Shine

NO ONE TOUCHED ROMNEY. He was unflappable and knowledgeable. He again showed the right political instinct to want to address the struggles of the middle class, although his tax plan doesn’t do it. His China-bashing will probably play well in the Midwest, although it’s foolhardy on the merits. He consistently got applause. I remember one of the early debates when Romney was flying above the other candidates and Pawlenty–I think–attacked him and he declined to reply, saying “that’s fine.” He said the same thing tonight when Santorum went after him. After all the churning in the race, Romney is in the same basically comfortable place he was in several months ago.

GINGRICH WAS ON HIS GAME FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN HE LET LOOSE A RINGING ANTI-BERNAKE, ANTI-FOOD STAMPS, ANTI-ALINSKY ANSWER. This was the Newt everyone thought we’d see before he got in the race. I thought he was much too irritable with the moderators, but a GOP audience probably doesn’t mind and Maria Bartiromo matched him unpleasantness for unpleasantness. The narrative about his rise will continue….

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/282829/romney-and-gingrich-shine-perry-doesnt-rich-lowry

I found Maria Bartiromo to be very unpleasant.  In fact there was nastiness by the entire NBC panel that showed.  At one point they tried to get Romney to take the bait regarding a Perry comment.  Mitt refused.

2.   Republican candidates are getting stronger and better

THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES ARE IMPROVING; they are answering questions (hostile questions!) crisply and smoothly. And, IN THE FACE OF CNBC’S SOMETIMES LOADED QUESTIONS, THEY SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER AND ATTACK THE PRESIDENT’S ACTIONS more than they posture or attack one another. Interesting trend. For example, when Michele Bachmann was asked, “WHY IS GOVERNOR ROMNEY WRONG?” SHE RETORTED, “PRESIDENT OBAMA IS WRONG.”

The big winners in the debate tonight were probably Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. Romney was poised and methodical on health care, Social Security, and the China trade. Always he focused on the failed economic ideas of President Obama, and Romney was thus was a rallying point for the audience and the other candidates.

Right now the left is deluding itself thinking that none of the Republican candidates can match Obama.  This is complete and utter nonsense.  By the time the debates with Obama happen, Obama will look like the amateur he is.

3.   'Weak field' spanks CNBC liberals

Putting aside Rick Perry's awful 53 seconds, the real story of the CNBC debate last night was HOW THOROUGHLY THE SO-CALLED WEAK FIELD OF REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES COLLECTIVELY EMBARRASSED THE PANEL AGGREGATED BY THE FINANCIAL NETWORK.

This was not lost on QUESTIONERS MARIA BARTIROMO AND JIM CRAMER, WHOSE DEMEANOR CHANGE WAS OBVIOUS AS THE DEBATE WORE ON. Meanwhile, in the post debate questioning, manchild Carl Quintenilla asked perhaps the worst question in the history of American journalism by trying to couch Herman Cain's "Queen Nancy" reference in light of his "problems with women." Puh-leeze.

On the whole, it was a stunning display of free market and pro-liberty principles versus the nanny state mindset that government must be at the center of all problem solving. Every one of the eight candidates had strong moments against CNBC's self-anointed experts. Especially promising was HOW THE FIELD ALMOST UNANIMOUSLY FINGERED FEDERAL REGULATIONS AS THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH OUR ECONOMY AND SOCIETY -- and they did so as the faces of the questioners went into shock. Moreover there was near unanimity on the idea that the only answer to housing is, well, the economy stupid.

And in spite of repeated attempts to get the candidates to go after each other, only Rick Santorum fell for that bait. Meanwhile the attempt to bring up Cain's sexual harassment issues was met with loud boo's. Very loud boo's….

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/11/weak_field_spanks_cnbc_liberals.html#ixzz1dKNrilq8

CNBC was the clear loser in this debate.  I found the questioners to be so obviously looking to have gotcha questions and the ability of the candidates to resist this must have left them as frustrated as they looked.

4.   A disaster for Perry

Governor Rick Perry suffered what might end up being a fatal incident when he couldn’t remember the third government department he would shut down.  As a speaker, I’ve had that happen to me and your best bet is to make fun of it or yourself.  What Rich Perry should have said when he couldn’t remember the third agency he wants to shut down was:

·         I’m sorry but they forgot to set up my teleprompter.

·         See, it’s so insignificant that even I can’t remember what it is.

·         I guess I should have kept it to only two things, like hope and change.

·         Since this is CNBC, I’m figuring you folks don’t want to shut anything down, so I’m going to only name two of my three to keep you from having a heart attack.

·         I think the third one was the Corpseman corp.

5.  David Axelrod's Pattern of Sexual Misbehavior

Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country -- Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. -- but NEVER IN CHICAGO.

So IT'S CURIOUS THAT ALL THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST CAIN EMANATE FROM CHICAGO: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod

SUSPICIONS HAD ALREADY FALLEN ON SHEILA O'GRADY, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley's chief of staff to PRESIDENT OF THE ILLINOIS RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain's personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).

The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, CAIN'S SHORT, THREE-YEAR TENURE AT THE NRA IS EVIDENTLY THE ONLY PERIOD IN HIS DECADES-LONG CAREER DURING WHICH HE'S ALLEGED TO HAVE BEEN A SEXUAL PREDATOR.

After O'Grady's name surfaced in connection with the miraculous appearance of Cain's personnel files from the NRA, SHE ISSUED A CLINTONESQUE DENIAL OF ANY INVOLVEMENT IN PRODUCING THEM -- BY VIGOROUSLY DENYING THAT SHE KNEW CAIN WHEN HE WAS AT THE NRA. (DUH.)…

And now, after a week of conservative eye-rolling over unspecified, anonymous accusations against Cain, we've suddenly GOT VERY SPECIFIC SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS FROM AN ALL-NEW ACCUSER OUT OF ... CHICAGO.

Herman Cain has never lived in Chicago. But you know who has? David Axelrod! AND GUESS WHO LIVED IN AXELROD'S VERY BUILDING? RIGHT AGAIN: CAIN'S LATEST ACCUSER, SHARON BIALEK….

Now who would believe that Obama or his people would do something like this?  Only anyone who actually knew his history in Chicago.

6.  Anti-Cain hoax exposed

Yesterday I saw a lengthy thread at Memeorandum about a “HermanCainPAC” website which had a large cover story calling Karen Kraushaar an “ugly bitch.” Here’s the screenshot:…

…THE WEBSITE LOOKED REAL, WITH A DONATE PAGE AND SO ON. BUT I DIDN’T POST ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT LOOKED REAL BUT WAS NOT BELIEVABLE.

But IT DID INVOKE FURY ON THE LEFT, which went all in on calling Cain names about it. Here was the reaction from Dave Neiwart (who invented the anti-conservative “eliminationist”narrative) at Crooks & Liars….

http://legalinsurrection.com/2011/11/anti-cain-hoax-exposed/

I find Liberals are very gullible whenever someone posts things they want to believe.  Hence someone posts that the College Boards show that Blue States are smarter than Red States and it’s all over the liberal blogs (the college boards doesn’t keep track of anything like that).  Or that Mussolini said “Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power," except he never said it.  Most recently, the left has blamed the Robert’s Court for making corporations people.  They are legally considered that, but that comes from an 1819 ruling which was made 136 years before John Roberts was born.

7.  Chris Rock on Obama’s Second Term

Some celebrities may have soured a bit on President Barack Obama, but not Chris Rock. The comedian and actor told fellow comedian Marc Maron on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast that HE’S “FINE WITH THE PRESIDENT,” IF ONLY BECAUSE HE UNDERSTANDS THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS TO KEEP HIS MOST AGGRESSIVE POLICIES ON THE BACK BURNER UNTIL HE EARNS A SECOND TERM.

“There’s a f——— art to the first term because you’re always running for a second term the whole time. It’s like Clinton’s first term. YOU CAN’T REALLY DO YOUR GANGSTA SH— UNTIL YOUR SECOND TERM.

But Rock understands a lot of the disappointment that Obama’s supporters have had thus far in his presidency.

“I’m like everybody, I want more action. But I understand that he’s trying not to piss off a lot of people. But I believe wholeheartedly if he’s back in, he’s going to do some gangsta sh—.”…

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/67980.html#ixzz1dK3ZJh7n

This could be a good commercial for the Republicans.  At the end, it could say, “President Obama wants you to know it could be worse.  It appears a second term would show you just how much worse it could be.”

8.   Study Shows Cutting Back on Salt can be Bad for Your Health

Cutting back on salt may not be as beneficial for your heart as once thought, a new study suggests.

WHILE A DIET LOW IN SALT REDUCES BLOOD PRESSURE, IT INCREASES THE LEVELS OF CHOLESTEROL, FAT AND HORMONES IN THE BLOOD THAT ARE KNOWN TO INCREASE THE RISK OF HEART DISEASE, THE STUDY FOUND.

Overall, the good and bad consequences of a low-salt diet may cancel each other out, so the diet has relatively little effect on the development of disease, said study researcher Dr. Niels Graudal, of Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark.

Mom was right, “everything in moderation.”

Is the Occupy Movement coming apart and who prospers when the Democrats are in office?

What’s new today

Our # 1 tells us that apparently the rich do better with Democrats in office than they do with Republicans.  Perhaps that explains why Wall Street supports Obama so much.  #2 tells us that Colorado has rejected more taxes and looks to see what that might mean.  #3 relates that while most of us are aware of Solyndra and the investigation there, it is only one of 100 investigations into the DOE’s loans program.  #4 has Ann Coulter comparing being charged with sexual harassment in the 1990s to being charged with witchcraft in the 1690s.  Story #5 questions whether Obama is the worst president since before the Civil War.  #6 is an obituary for Barack Obama’s chances in 2012.  Nothing is there that gives him a fighting chance.  Article #7 is the Herman Cain scandal, if you can call it a scandal.  #8 relates the degeneration of Occupy Oakland.  The Occupy movement has been taken over by radical anarchist and unions.  #9 wonders if the Occupy movement doesn’t expose the bankruptcy of our institutions of higher learning.  #10 is an update on Fast and Furious.

1.   Wealthy Prosper Under Democrats

…During the 2008 campaign, Obama said, "THE PROJECT OF THE NEXT PRESIDENT IS FIGURING OUT HOW DO YOU CREATE BOTTOM-UP ECONOMIC GROWTH, AS OPPOSED TO THE TRICKLE-DOWN ECONOMIC GROWTH THAT GEORGE BUSH HAS BEEN SO ENAMORED WITH."

But it turns out that THE RICH ACTUALLY GOT POORER UNDER PRESIDENT BUSH, and THE INCOME GAP HAS BEEN CLIMBING UNDER OBAMA.

What's more, the biggest increase in income inequality over the past three decades took place when Democrat Bill Clinton was in the White House.

THE WEALTHIEST 5% OF U.S. HOUSEHOLDS SAW INCOMES FALL 7% AFTER INFLATION IN BUSH'S EIGHT YEARS in office, according to an IBD analysis of Census Bureau data. A widely used household income inequality measure, the Gini index, was essentially flat over that span. Another inequality gauge, the Theil index, showed a decline.

In contrast, the Gini index rose — slightly — in Obama's first two years. Another Census measure of inequality shows its climbed 5.7% since he took office.

Meanwhile, DURING CLINTON'S EIGHT YEARS, THE WEALTHIEST 5% OF AMERICAN HOUSEHOLDS SAW THEIR INCOMES JUMP 45% VS. 26% UNDER REAGAN. The Gini index shot up 6.7% under Clinton, more than any other president since 1980.

http://news.investors.com/Article/590383/201111030805/Income-Inequality-Rose-Under-Clinton-Obama.htm

Now the first excuse I would expect to come out of the left is that it has risen under Obama because he left the Bush Tax cuts in place.  But that doesn’t work since the rich actually saw their income decline under Bush.  I think Obama’s Crony Capitalism is the cause.

2.  Colorado:  Bell Weather or a Fluke?

In the only state-wide tax increase on any state’s ballot this year, Colorado voters yesterday offered a resounding “No!".

Proposition 103 would have raised the state income tax rate from 4.63 percent to 5 percent, and the state sales tax from 2.9 percent to 3 percent, expecting to extract about $3 billion from Coloradoans over five years with the money earmarked for public education. THE MEASURE’S SUPPORTERS – PRIMARILY TEACHERS’ UNIONS – OUTRAISED (AND PRESUMABLY OUTSPENT) ITS OPPONENTS BY ABOUT 20-TO-1.

NEVERTHELESS, PROP 103 LOST BY A STUNNING MARGIN OF ALMOST 28 PERCENT, ROUGHLY 64 PERCENT AGAINST TO 36 PERCENT FOR, WITH ONLY TWO PERCENT OF THE BALLOTS LEFT TO BE COUNTED.

Although several small counties have not yet reported, at this point the measure has passed in only three of Colorado’s 64 counties, and they are exactly the three one might expect: Boulder (the center for tax-hiking liberals in the state and the home of the state senator whose baby Prop 103 was), Pitkin (location of Aspen), and San Miguel (location of Telluride.) Even in the perennially Democratic Denver, Prop 103 failed by seven percent.

The wide margin of defeat for Proposition 103 COULD ONLY HAPPEN WITH A SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY – SOMETHING ON THE ORDER OF TWO-THIRDS – OF UNAFFILIATED (INDEPENDENT) VOTERS OPPOSING THE MEASURE, SOMETHING WHICH PORTENDS WELL FOR REPUBLICAN HOPES IN 2012 ELECTIONS….

Living in Colorado you hear a lot from the lefties, but the numbers don’t look good for them.  This to me is a strong indication that the people are not happy with the economy and blame it on the current administration.  It also bodes ill for tax increasing democrats.

3.   Solyndra isn’t alone

Solyndra is being investigated by the FBI, but that may just be the tip of the shovel-ready iceberg.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY IS INVESTIGATING MORE THAN 100 POTENTIAL INSTANCES OF CRIMINAL ABUSE OF STIMULUS LOAN MONIES, ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT’S OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL.

In prepared testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Wednesday, Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman said his office has launched more than 100 probes into possible criminal activities related to the 2009 stimulus funds behind the loans. …

Now this isn’t something that will let you sleep well tonight.

4.   Ann Coulter on Herman Cain and the Charge of Sexual Harassment

….This is why the liberal website Politico ran with A STORY ON CAIN THAT HAD EVERYTHING -- a powerful black man, a Republican presidential candidate, the hint of sexuality -- EXCEPT FACTS.

All we learned was: About a decade ago, as many as two anonymous women accused Cain of making unspecified "inappropriate" remarks and one "inappropriate" gesture in the workplace. (We had more than that on John Edwards' mistress a year into the media's refusal to report that story.)

If the details helped liberals, we'd have the details.

TO HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE 1990S IS LIKE HAVING BEEN ACCUSED OF MOLESTING CHILDREN AT PRESCHOOLS IN THE 1980S OR ACCUSED OF BEING A WITCH IN MASSACHUSETTS IN THE 1690S.

In the 1990s, one plaintiff won a $50 million jury verdict against Wal-Mart on the grounds that a "hostile environment" was created by her supervisor's yelling at both male and female employees. In another case, a plaintiff won a $250,000 award for sexual harassment based on her complaint that a male colleague had reached for a pastry saying, "Nothing I like more in the morning than sticky buns," while "wriggl(ing)" his eyebrows.

It got so crazy that a 6-year-old boy was suspended from class for a day for kissing a classmate on the cheek, and a Goya painting had to be removed from a Penn State classroom because a professor complained that it constituted sexual harassment.

WITH NO STANDARD OTHER THAN THE SUBJECTIVE OFFENSE TAKEN BY THE ACCUSER, ABSOLUTELY ANYONE COULD BE CALLED A WITCH, I.E., A SEXUAL HARASSER. So it's striking that the only two conservative public figures accused of being witches both happened to be conservative blacks: Clarence Thomas and Herman Cain….

What I find most offensive is that it appears the left who claims to be supporters of minorities seems to pull out what is likely the MOST racists of charges, that is, that black men are intimidating white women.  In the past, Democrats would have lynched a black man for such a charge.  Today as Clarence Thomas said, we have a high tech lynching instead, but it’s still Democrats who are doing it.

5.   Worst President Since Before the Civil War

Three years ago, the people of the United States elected someone who has turned out to be the worst president since the pre-Civil War era. BARACK OBAMA, whether in economic matters, domestic affairs or international relations, HAS BEEN AN ABJECT FAILURE AND HAS SEVERELY JEOPARDIZED THE FUTURE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

This must be the focus and message of those seeking the Republican presidential nomination, who must not allow themselves to be focused on demeaning each other and sidetracked by falling for the usual tactics of the Democrat and media smear machines (epitomized by the latest specious attack on Herman Cain).

A cursory examination of Obama's overall record compared with other presidents reveals SOMEONE DRIVEN PURELY BY STATIST IDEOLOGY, WHOSE NARCISSISM RENDERS HIM INCAPABLE OF CHANGE REGARDLESS OF THE LONG-TERM CONSEQUENCES. He does not seem to care what happens to the American people…..

An excellent article that gives you a number of factual comparisons between Obama, Reagan and FDR.  O doesn’t fare to well in the comparison.

6.  Obama fails all viability tests

LAST WEEK’S COLUMN ASSERTING THAT THE PRESIDENT IS UNELECTABLE HAS TRIGGERED STRONG RESPONSES. Democrats, in particular, seem to think my judgment is premature. It strikes them as ridiculous that anyone could make such a “bold prediction” so far in advance of the 2012 election. Hey, that’s what we do, as seasoned political professionals, as pollsters. But I must stress that I am not so much making a personal prediction as DRAWING AN INFORMED CONCLUSION BASED ON ALL THE NUMBERS AVAILABLE. I do this in each election cycle for other candidates, and it’s time to make the call on President Obama.

Whenever I have an incumbent client running for reelection, I insist on a viability study about a year out from the election — so, in the case of the presidential race, right about now. Anything that I do for my own, I should do for the opposition. So here goes. First, I look at THE POLLING RESULTS FROM TRADITIONAL “DESERVES REELECTION” QUESTIONS, the gold standard of viability testing. The most recent nationwide public poll I could find was one conducted by Quinnipiac University early last month. It showed 42 percent saying the president deserves reelection while 54 percent say he doesn’t. While this reelect number by itself is not necessarily a doomsday figure, IT’S THE 54 PERCENT ON THE CON SIDE THAT’S A KILLER. MOST OFTEN, THERE IS A LARGE UNDECIDED PERCENTAGE, BUT HERE IT’S ONLY 4 POINTS. VOTERS HAVE CLOSED THEIR MINDS — and the book on this president. It ensures that when Obama faces a Republican nominee, the undecided voters in early polling will eventually vote against an undeserved reelection….

This to me is a no brainer.  Right now Donald Duck could beat BHO.  He’s shown himself to be completely out of his league.

7.  The Case Against Cain

… Let’s sum up the “facts” as they are known right now. MOSTLY UNNAMED PEOPLE accused Herman Cain OF UNSPECIFIED CONDUCT which some people who will not specify the people or the conduct have DEEMED “INAPPROPRIATE.” And one of the unnamed people received a piddly $35,000 SEVERANCE PACKAGE ALMOST 15 YEARS AGO FOR UNSPECIFIED CONDUCT WHICH INCLUDED CONDUCT UNRELATED TO CAIN.

That’s what’s known now. Maybe actual facts will come out proving that Cain did something wrong, but those facts are not out now…

This is a cotton candy accusation.  There’s a lot less there than meets the eye.

8.  Occupy Update:  Occupy Oakland acts up again

It was not exactly insurrection, but the rowdies gathered in Oakland for a grandiosely-named "general strike" Wednesday, FINALLY GOT THE STREET ACTION THEY WANTED AFTER NIGHTFALL, building a bonfire in a downtown street with flames 15 feet high requiring police action to prevent damage and injury to property and buildings nearby. WHEN MISSILES WERE THROWN AT POLICE AND HIT SOME, THE POLICE MOVED IN WITH TEAR GAS AND PERCUSSION GRENADES. At about 1 AM, on a street adjacent to Frank Ogawa Plaza, a group of 200 to 300 officers faced off against 150 protesters, many of whom were carrying makeshift shields and taunting officers. At one point, the officers split into two groups. Protesters followed the officers, who ordered them to disperse.

Police then went around a building, surrounded the demonstrators and began firing tear gas….

…The local Bay Area media are bending over backwards in order to find positive things to say about these miscreants. "Mostly peaceful” -- which in my book means that it was it was violent, "the feces quotient is minimal” -- how much feces is acceptable to you?, and the like. This sort of propaganda brings to mind the old joke, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"…

When I look at the comparison of how these ‘protests’ compare in media coverage with the TEA Party, I find it enlightening, but hardly surprising.  The old joke is very applicable in this case.

9.   Wall Street Protesters Prove Most Academic Degrees Worthless Today

What will it take for parents to finally realize that it's a waste of time and money to save for their children's college education? Occupy Wall Street protesters over the nation are looking for forgiveness of their nearly one trillion dollars in student loan debt yet most of them can't find a job. INTERVIEWS WITH THOSE PROTESTERS SEEM TO ILLUSTRATE THAT MANY DON'T EVEN HAVE BASIC SKILLS TO EXPRESS A COHESIVE THOUGHT. I wrote a column recently comparing the 2011 protesters to the 1960's anti-Vietnam war crowd but while those earlier ones were afraid of going to war, the OCCUPY WALL STREETERS ARE AFRAID OF HAVING TO WORK FOR A LIVING.

College costs continue to spiral upward and a recent CBS News reported that, "The College Board reports roughly 56 percent of bachelor's degree recipients at public four-year schools last year graduated with debt, averaging about $22,000. At private nonprofit universities, 65 percent had debt, averaging around $28,000."

If you're studying to be a doctor or a lawyer than there's no doubt higher education is a prerequisite but BEING IN DEBT FOR $96,000 FOR A DEGREE IN WOMEN'S STUDIES OR ART HISTORY IS JUST PLAIN STUPID. One of the signs at the park where the protesters have been camping out reads, "Even in a good economy, I'm unemployable."…

… WHAT IS SO SAD ABOUT THE OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTESTS IS THE CLUELESSNESS OF THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THEM. If their brain cells were still working they would be looking with heavy skepticism at those celebrities joining them for photo ops and video segments. Most of them belong not to the 99% but rather they are the 1% hypocrites whom they should be hanging in effigy.

Consider their supporter billionaire Russell Simmons. He is basically A BANKER WHO PROMOTES HIS RUSH CARD FOR 9.95 A MONTH WHICH IS ALMOST DOUBLE THE $5 THAT BANK OF AMERICA WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THEIR DEBIT CARDS AND WHICH WAS LOUDLY BLASTED FOR THAT PLAN BY OWS….

The Occupy Movement reminds me of a passage in James Michener’s book Centennial where he describes a dinosaur.  Michener didn’t think much of the dinosaur’s intellectual capacity, but talked of it having a sense of danger.  The actual protesters in the Occupy Movement don’t really know what they are against other than greed.  Much like that dinosaur in Michener’s book, they have a sense of danger, but aren’t sure what it is.

10.                    Obama Scandal Update:  Fast and Furious

…Today, BABEU'S OFFICE CONFIRMED TWO GUNS FOUND DURING A MASSIVE DRUG SMUGGLING BUST AGAINST THE SINALOA CARTEL IN PINAL COUNTY, WERE PROVIDED THROUGH OPERATION FAST AND FURIOUS.

"I am outraged our Federal Government has armed one of the largest and most dangerous of the Mexican drug cartels with as many as 2,000 high powered weapons. This is the same cartel we have been investigating for the past fifteen months for various crimes including a murder in my County. We have arrested 76 suspects and seized 108 weapons. We have now have learned two of the weapons we seized are in fact linked to Operation Fast and Furious. U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENT BRIAN TERRY WAS ONLY DOING HIS JOB WHEN HE WAS VICIOUSLY MURDERED BY MEXICAN BANDITS WITH FAST AND FURIOUS WEAPONS. Thankfully none of our members were murdered this time," Babeu tells Townhall….

In addition to this story, we now have 34 members of Congress as well as Governor Jan Brewer calling for Eric Holder’s resignation.
