….Instead, the metamorphosizing PRESIDENT PUT HIS FINGER TO THE WIND. He soon learned that HIS LEFTIST BASE WITHIN 72 HOURS HAD TURNED OFF THE PUBLIC WITH ITS DEMAGOGIC CHARGES OF CONSERVATIVE CULPABILITY FOR A DERANGED KILLER murdering the innocent. And so Obama summarily JETTISONED HIS LEFTIST SCAPEGOATING BASE. In dispassionate fashion, he figured that within hours the New York Times et al. would Trotskyize their earlier narratives, and most of the left would cease the poll-killing (excuse the metaphor) “climate of hate” narrative.

HE WAS RIGHT. The progressive community snapped back into line, reminding the country that THE DESIRE FOR POWER AND STATUS ALWAYS TRUMPS IDEOLOGY. Hillary Clinton was especially embarrassed: one day she was sermonizing on foreign soil in morally equivalent fashion about an American version of an “extremist”; the next day, her boss told the world that the only thing extreme about the killer was his own nihilistic madness (and by implication damned those vultures [e.g., Ms. Clinton included] who clumsily try to make political points from tragedy).

Obama apparently would rather be a two term president than one that is a hero to the hard left. This should be interesting to watch.

He became intrigued by antigovernment conspiracy theories, including that the Sept. 11 attacks were perpetrated by the government and that the country’s central banking system was enslaving its citizens. Poll: Americans Split on What to Cut from Government

News poll finds that Americans strongly prefer cutting spending to raising taxes to reduce the federal deficit. While 77 PERCENT PREFER TO CUT SPENDING, JUST NINE PERCENT CALL FOR RAISING TAXES. ANOTHER NINE PERCENT WANT TO DO BOTH.

Yet most Americans could not volunteer a program they'd be willing to see cut in order to reduce the deficit - only 38 percent could name a program they would support cutting. The top responses were military/defense (six percent), Social Security/Medicare (four percent) and welfare/food stamps (four percent).

However, AMERICANS ARE MORE WILLING TO CONSIDER CUTS WHEN PRESENTED WITH SPECIFIC IDEAS, as the chart above illustrates. The most popular ideas for reducing the deficit are to reduce Social Security benefits for the wealthy, reduce the money allocated to projects in their own community, reduce farm subsidies and reduce defense spending. More than 50 percent supported reductions in each of those programs.

I believe the Obama Administration went on the spending spree feeling they would be able in the future to cut back on some of the huge increases in spending and make the case to raise taxes. It seems the left feels Americans aren’t tax enough already as they always compare us to Europe where a greater share of the national wealth is taken by government. Evidently their strategy has not worked.

Dreams of his Opponents

….In his 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father, Obama made the same claim. "HE HAD LEFT HAWAII BACK IN 1963," HE WROTE OF OBAMA SR., "WHEN I WAS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD."



…Obama writes ruefully in Dreams, "NO MENTION IS MADE OF MY MOTHER OR ME, AND I'M LEFT TO WONDER WHETHER THE OMISSION WAS INTENTIONAL ON MY FATHER'S PART, in anticipation of his long departure." What Obama does not mention is that THE ARTICLE WAS DATED JUNE 22, 1962.



OBAMA WAS REPORTEDLY BORN ON AUGUST 4, 1961. He was not yet a year old at the time Obama Sr. left Hawaii for good. More to the point, OBAMA FAILS TO MENTION THAT HE AND HIS MOTHER, ANN DUNHAM, WERE LIVING IN SEATTLE AT THE TIME AND HAD BEEN SINCE AT LEAST AUGUST 19, 1961, THE DAY SHE ENROLLED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON…..



……QUESTIONS LINGER ABOUT THE PATERNITY OF MANY OF THESE OFFSPRING. In Dreams, Obama's cryptic and contrarian Aunt Sarah would tell her presumed nephew, " ... THE CHILDREN WHO CLAIM TO BE OBAMA'S ARE NOT OBAMA'S." Obama must have wondered whether she was referring to him.



Curiously, when Obama found the article about Obama Sr.'s departure, he found it "folded away among my birth certificate and old vaccination forms." Later in Dreams, in a passage heretofore overlooked, OBAMA UNWITTINGLY REVEALS THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THAT BIRTH CERTIFICATE.



On the occasion of his father's death in 1982, lawyers contacted anyone who might have claim to the estate. "UNLIKE MY MUM," OBAMA TELLS HIS HALF-SISTER AUMA IN DREAMS, "RUTH HAS ALL THE DOCUMENTS NEEDED TO PROVE WHO MARK'S FATHER WAS."



THE LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE COULD POSE A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS OTHER THAN COUNTRY OF ORIGIN, including the date of Obama's birth, the state of his birth, and the identity of his father. Any one of these revelations could unravel the yarn that Obama has been spinning.



These problems derive from the fact that ANN DUNHAM ENROLLED AT UNIVERSITY ON AUGUST 19, 1961 and returned to Hawaii only after Obama Sr. had left Hawaii for good. Both of these facts are more firmly established than President Obama's Honolulu birth on August 4, 1961. In my forthcoming book, Deconstructing Obama, I review these possibilities in some detail.



The failure of the mainstream media to even address the inconsistencies in Obama's story is downright shameful. That failure has created a windstorm of curiosity that is becoming increasingly difficult for the media to ignore. The final responsibility for the outburst in Congress last week is theirs.

I had read about this before. Rather than being born of a foreign national in Kenya, the author appears to believe Obama’s father was not Obama Sr., but rather a friend of his grandfather and Obama was not born only 2 weeks before his mother moved to Washington State, but rather six months before he was supposedly born (that would eliminate Obama as his father). That is the reason he has not released his birth certificate. In short, Obama’s citizenship is not in doubt, but his paternity may be.

MANY RUSSIAN IMMIGRANTS to the "red borough" of Staten Island ARE FLOCKING TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, saying that the NATIONAL DEMOCRATS' "SOCIALISTIC" POLICIES REMIND THEM TOO MUCH OF THE TOP-DOWN OLIGARCHY THEY FLED IN THEIR NATIVE LAND.


With many of the borough's Russian arrivees already owning businesses and active in civic organizations, their muscle could help the Island GOP solidify electoral gains made this year, when the party took back congressional and Assembly seats.

The Looming Energy Debate

Over the past years, the CZECH REPUBLIC has invested heavily in renewable energy, such as solar power. Unsurprisingly, the Czech government IS NOW QUIETLY ADMITTING THAT ENERGY PRICES ARE GOING TO RISE, in part, due to these subsidies and the resulting higher energy costs which the public must now purchase.

Powerline suggests that this SAME LOOMING CONSEQUENCE IN AMERICA WILL BE "THE NEXT OBAMA DISASTER." In light of rising oil costs, energy is an issue waiting in the wings for its cue to take center stage in the public debate. Having opposed off-shore drilling and committed America to renewable energy, Obama will not endure such a debate unscathed.

The Obama’s administrations’ energy policy has been a disaster. Subsidizing as of yet unworkable technologies while shutting down workable ones will hit the American public soon. This will not bode well for Obama and the Democrats in 2012.

Free Speech in Academia

Concerned parents looking to send their kids to a college free from repressive speech codes can now add another option to their list. Last semester, the UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA (UVA) ELIMINATED THE LAST OF A SERIES OF POLICIES THAT UNCONSTITUTIONALLY RESTRICTED THE FREE SPEECH OF STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS. Two-thirds of the nation's colleges maintain policies that clearly and substantially restrict freedom of speech. But now, UVA is an exception to the rule having fully reformed four speech codes over the course of the last year.

PRESIDENT TERESA SULLIVAN SHOULD BE COMMENDED for overseeing these important changes, which guarantee the First Amendment rights of students and faculty members at the University of Virginia. Within just three months of taking office, President Sullivan has overseen the transformation of UVA from a school that earned FIRE's worst “red light” rating for restricting protected speech to their highest “green light” rating. But there is another UVA administrator who deserves even higher praise than President Sullivan.

FIRE began working with UVA administrator Dean Allen Groves in April 2010 after Adam Kissel gave a lecture on free speech that was hosted by two UVA student groups - Students for Individual Liberty and Liberty Coalition.

The charge: The Tucson massacre is a consequence of the "climate of hate" created by Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, Glenn Beck, Obamacare opponents and sundry other liberal betes noires.

The verdict: RARELY IN AMERICAN POLITICAL DISCOURSE HAS THERE BEEN A CHARGE SO RECKLESS, SO SCURRILOUS AND SO UNSUPPORTED BY EVIDENCE.

As killers go, Jared Loughner is not reticent. Yet among all his writings, postings, videos and other ravings - and in all the testimony from all the people who knew him - THERE IS NOT A SINGLE REFERENCE TO ANY OF THESE SUPPOSED ACCESSORIES TO MURDER.

Not only is there no evidence that Loughner was impelled to violence by any of those upon whom Paul Krugman, Keith Olbermann, the New York Times, the Tucson sheriff and other rabid partisans are fixated. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT HE WAS RESPONDING TO ANYTHING, POLITICAL OR OTHERWISE, OUTSIDE OF HIS OWN HEAD.

Dupnik for Dummies

As you may know, Dupnik has been busy warning of how speech has consequences while in the same breath blaming conservatives for the actions of Loughner. Now, I don’t blame the sheriff for asking why. It is fine to look for reasons. IT IS NOT FINE TO BE RECKLESS AND WRONG. AND IT’S A SIN WHEN IT’S BORN OF INDIFFERENCE TO TRUTH.

To be precise, Dupnik implicates right-wing talk radio—HE MENTIONED RUSH LIMBAUGH—and cable news in the Giffords shooting. Yet a number of obvious things seem to have eluded this man, this supposed professional investigator. For starters, if we’re actually going to analyze the politics of Loughner, we should note that ONE OF HIS FORMER CLASSMATES DESCRIBES HIM AS A “LEFT WING” “POLITICAL RADICAL” AND “POT HEAD” and that Loughner had listed THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO AMONG HIS FAVORITE WORKS on his YouTube page. Then, many know about Loughner’s bizarre YouTube video. What few know, however, is that HE APPARENTLY POSTED IT TO DEMOCRATICUNDERGROUND.COM BEFORE ITS APPEARANCE ON YOUTUBE. Yes, sheriff, that’s “democratic” as in Democratic Party—not as in Republican, Tea, or Animal House.

THE RODEO CLOWN POSSE was led out of Tucson in a cloud of dust with a hay-burning frenzy by Arizona's Pima County Sheriff CLARENCE DUPNIK. Close in tow were hyper-boiling politicians and the usual lefty print and TV media cowboys such as REP. JAMES CLYBURN, columnist PAUL KRUGMAN, TV antagonista CHRIS MATTHEWS, and even our own Secretary of State HILLARY CLINTON. These tin-star constables couldn't get on their donkeys fast enough to round up the usual outlaws. THE LEADING PERENNIAL VILLAIN, OF COURSE, IS OVERHEATED POLITICAL RHETORIC, THE EUPHEMISM FOR ANY STRONGLY HELD OPINION THAT DIFFERS FROM THE LIBERAL NARRATIVE.

Extreme Rhetoric about Extreme Rhetoric

When it was revealed by Middlebury College sociologist David Stoll that Nobel Prize-winning writer (and doyenne of university syllabi) RIGOBERTA MENCHU HAD INVENTED KEY PARTS OF HER HARROWING MEMOIR OF THE GUATEMALAN CIVIL WAR, many who taught the book INSISTED THAT IT WOULD REMAIN A PART OF THEIR CURRICULUM. Menchu might have been a first-class fabulist, it was argued, but HER STORY REPRESENTED A TRUTH FAMILIAR TO THOSE AFFECTED BY THE GUATEMALAN CIVIL WAR. So there I was, sitting in a television studio yesterday, debating a university professor who intoned gravely that WHILE THIS PARTICULAR SHOOTER MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN MOTIVATED BY THE TEA PARTY, THAT TYPE OF RHETORIC COULD POTENTIALLY PROVOKE OTHERS TO SHOOT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

Crawling out from under an avalanche of doltish tragedy blogging and tweeting, there isn’t much more one can say about the shootings in Tucson that hasn’t already been said by the few sensible pundits left in the United States. But it is perhaps worth pointing out that many of those denouncing rhetorical extremism are themselves in danger of drifting into similar territory (I won’t say "extremist" because dumb political rhetoric isn’t always "extreme").

But this debate about the “tone” of American politics is IDEOLOGICALLY UNIDIRECTIONAL, DESIGNED NOT TO ELEVATE DEBATE BUT TO VILIFY A POLITICAL ENEMY. The call for calm—with its frequent invocations of Tea Party “fascism”—is STUPID PARTISAN POLITICS DRESSED UP AS INCOHERENT MORAL POLITICS

The talk by the left is dangerous. Freedom of Speech needs to be upheld, not attacked because there may be individuals who might go off the deep end. It appears the left is looking to try to castigate the right and specifically the TEA Party. But these charges like the ones of the TEA Party being extremist and racist will fail.

But THE REAL GUILTY WALK AMONG US: SENIOR CITIZENS IN RED, WHITE, AND BLUE, ARMED WITH SIGNS, "Taxed Enough Already," flag-wavers clinging to guns and religion, doctors, the wealthy, business owners, talk radio, and ANY CITIZEN THAT DARE EXERCISE HIS OR HER RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH, particularly a conservative.

Bush vs Obama

….IF OBAMA IS SO MUCH SMARTER THAN BUSH IS, HOW COME HE CAN'T come up with new ways to do things but ends up instead with the Bush tax cuts, with the Bush protocols for the war on terror, with the Bush wars, the Bush generals, the Bush surge strategies, and the Bush policies on Guantanamo Bay?

HOW COME BUSH'S APPROVAL RATINGS NOW MATCH OBAMA'S? How come Bush beat out President Clinton for second place in the annual ranking of men most admired? And how come his memoir sold 2.2 million copies in the two months since it's been published, a little more than Clinton's memoir sold in six years?

"Who's actually buying the poorly reviewed book of a failed former president?" asked the Washington Monthly. "I THINK IT'S THE FACT THAT HE WAS HATED BY SO MANY PEOPLE," Salon's Alex Pareene answered.

People wanted to read Bush's excuses for the terrible things that he did.

Other excuses Pareene offered were these: PEOPLE BOUGHT THEM AS GAGS FOR PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T WANT TO RECEIVE THEM.

They were bought in bulk orders by conservative think tanks and book clubs. IT WAS SHORTER THAN CLINTON'S BOOK, AND PEOPLE HATE READING……

Almost as much as trying to live in the state of denial, it seems.

Lopsided Spill Commission Doesn’t Single Out BP

The While House oil-spill commission made it official today: THE ENTIRE OIL INDUSTRY, NOT BP, IS EVIL AND POTENTIALLY THE SOURCE OF ANOTHER DEEPWATER-SIZED SPILL. Thus the entire oil industry, which has already been punished by the administration with its drilling moratorium and slowdown in permitting, should be punished further with massive new regulations and fees.


Those conclusions were virtually predetermined when the administration appointed a panel heavily stacked with academics and environmentalists. And those findings are wrong.


Why? A simple reality check: Other companies drilling in deep water in the Gulf have not had well blow-outs. But in BP’s case, the commission’s own studies show not just one mistake but a series of failed judgment calls by BP officials. Responsibility is specific, not collective. WE DON’T SHUT DOWN THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY WHEN A PLANE CRASHES, AND WE SHOULDN’T SHUT DOWN THE OIL BUSINESS.

BP was the Democrats favorite oil company prior to the failure in the Gulf. They were heavy donors to the Democrats and Barack Obama in particular (BHO got $71,000 in donations in 2008 alone). This appears to be Democrat politics as usual.



Where’s the “missing” heat?

I’m bowing to pressure to prepare a post on a current science topic that people seem to want to talk about. This topic refers to Kevin Trenberth’s infamous statement in the CRU emails:

THE FACT IS THAT WE CAN’T ACCOUNT FOR THE LACK OF WARMING AT THE MOMENT AND IT IS A TRAVESTY THAT WE CAN’T.

This statement was written in reference to the following paper: An imperative for climate change planning: tracking Earth’s global energy (Trenberth 2009). The paper discusses the planet’s energy budget in terms of how much net energy is flowing into our climate and where it’s going, and how we observe and track this energy flow. Trenberth and Fasullo wrote a follow on perspective published in Science entitled “Tracking earth’s energy: from El Nino to Global warming.” THE PUNCHLINE OF THE PAPER IS THERE IS OBSERVATIONAL EVIDENCE FOR MISSING ENERGY ACCUMULATING IN THE CLIMATE SYSTEM FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS.

Roy Spencer responded to Trenberth and Fasullo here and here, There is a back and forth exchange between Trenberth and Pielke Sr here. The gist of their arguments relate to problems in the measurements and the possible impact of clouds.

This week, there is discussion ABOUT A NEW PAPER BY KNOX AND DOUGLASS ENTITLED “RECENT ENERGY BALANCE OF EARTH” is in press at the International Journal of Geosciences and some text is posted at WUWT, with the following overall punchline: THEY FIND THAT ESTIMATES OF THE RECENT (2003–2008) OCEAN HEAT CONTENT RATES OF CHANGE (OBSERVED FROM ARGO FLOATS) ARE PREPONDERANTLY NEGATIVE, which does not support the existence of either a large positive radiative imbalance or a “missing energy.”

I don’t run a lot on AGW anymore because quite frankly it isn’t a very big issue anymore. The alarmists have either moved on to a new crisis or find themselves being ignored by the public. But with all the stories on the Tucson tragedy, it actually nice to look at some other news.

Warmists say cold weather proves AGW happening

Temperatures for December and January were consistently 1.8 F ( 1 C) lower than the average of 41 F (5 C)and 37 F (3C) respectively and more snow fell in London this week than since the 1960s.

But despite this extreme weather, scientists say that the current cold snap does not mean that climate change is going into reverse. In fact, the surprise with which we have greeted the extreme conditions only reinforces how our climate has changed over the years.

A study by the Met Office which went back 350 years shows that such extreme weather now only occurs every 20 years.

Democrats and a climate of hate

Shortly after November's electoral defeat for the Democrats, pollster MARK PENN appeared on Chris Matthews's TV show and remarked that WHAT PRESIDENT OBAMA NEEDED TO RECONNECT WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WAS ANOTHER OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING. To judge from the reaction to Saturday's tragic shootings in Arizona, many on the left (and in the press) agree, and for a while hoped that Jared Lee Loughner's killing spree might fill the bill.

With only the barest outline of events available, PUNDITS AND REPORTERS SEEMED TO AGREE THAT THE MASSACRE HAD TO BE THE FAULT OF THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT IN GENERAL, AND OF SARAH PALIN IN PARTICULAR. Why? Because they had created, in New York Times columnist Paul Krugman's words, a "climate of hate."

THE CRITICS WERE A BIT SHORT ON PARTICULARS AS TO WHAT THAT MEANT. Mrs. Palin has used some martial metaphors—"lock and load"—and talked about "targeting" opponents. But as media writer Howard Kurtz noted in The Daily Beast, such metaphors are common in politics. PALIN CRITIC MARKOS MOULITSAS, ON HIS DAILY KOS BLOG, HAD EVEN INCLUDED REP. GABRIELLE GIFFORDS'S DISTRICT ON A LIST OF CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS "BULLSEYED" FOR PRIMARY CHALLENGES. When Democrats use language like this—or even harsher language like Mr. Obama's famous remark, in Philadelphia during the 2008 campaign, "IF THEY BRING A KNIFE TO THE FIGHT, WE BRING A GUN"—it's just evidence of high spirits, apparently. But if Republicans do it, it somehow creates a climate of hate.

There's a climate of hate out there, all right, but it doesn't derive from the innocuous use of political clichés. And FORMER GOV. PALIN AND THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT ARE MORE THE TARGETS THAN THE SOURCE.

Reportedly, LOUGHNER HAD A HISTORY OF MAKING PUBLIC DEATH THREATS THAT BEEN IGNORED BY THE PIMA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT...

What the The Cholla Jumps site is alleging - and which has not yet been confirmed- is the following:
Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriff's Office was informed, HIS DEPUTIES ASSURED THE VICTIMS THAT HE WAS BEING WELL MANAGED BY THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM. It was also suggested that FURTHER PRESSING OF CHARGES WOULD BE UNNECESSARY and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County.
The question is, is this true?

I normally wouldn’t post something like this that is not confirmed. But in view of Sheriff Dupnik’s speculation on the case it seems fair.



Dupnik was asked by the Democrats to apologize for remarks in the past

(Dupnik) ONCE BLAMED POLICYMAKERS FOR VIOLENCE IN HIS COUNTY BECAUSE THEY HAD STOPPED INSTITUTIONALIZING MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE.
Dupnik also suggested that local SCHOOLS SHOULD CHECK THE IMMIGRATION STATUS of students and that many of the social problems in his county were attributable to illegal immigration--remarks that some fellow Democrats cited as “inflammatory” while demanding an apology from the sheriff.

Additionally, Dupnik once TOLD RESIDENTS IN PART OF HIS COUNTY TO BUY GUNS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES because he did not believe his department, given its limited resources, could adequately do the job themselves.
Dupnik expressed his views about mentally ill people not being institutionalized to the Tucson Citizen newspaper in September 1999 after four people had been shot by local law enforcement officers in the course of a single week. The Citizen published the sheriff’s remarks in its Sept. 21, 1999 edition in a story by staff writer Michael R. Graham that ran under the headline “Dupnik: guns, drink making streets unsafe.”

Gabrielle Giffords shooting: Jared Loughner 'believed he could fly'

A schoolfriend of Jared Loughner, the main suspect in the shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, has spoken about his friend's OBSESSIONS WITH DREAMS, CHAOS AND GOVERNMENT.

Mr Tierney said: "I SAW HIS DREAM JOURNAL ONCE. That's the golden piece of evidence. You want to know what goes on in Jared Loughner's mind, there's a dream journal that will tell you everything."

He said that Loughner sometimes approached strangers and would say "weird" things.

"He would do it because he thought people were below him and he knew they wouldn't know what he was talking about."

By the beginning of 2010, Loughner's imaginary world was taking precedence over his everyday life, Mr Tierney said.

Of course the skit was from 1983, but it parallels what happened in Tuscan this past weekend.  Do you think this skit could have caused Loughner to shoot all those people?  That makes as much sense as do the Liberal trying to blame the Republicans for the shooting.
