Republicans Will Steal the 2012 Election
Expect to hear that claim in the run-up to the election. Similar claims were made before the 2000, 2004, and 2008 elections.
DURING THE 2000 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, ACTIVISTS CLAIMED THAT DOGS AND HOSES WERE USED TO KEEP BLACK VOTERS FROM THE POLLS IN FLORIDA. Claims that thousands of black voters were disfranchised, harassed and intimidated ran rampant. As I mentioned yesterday, the U.S.Commission on Civil Rights conducted a six-month investigation of the charges and FOUND ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE OF SYSTEMATIC DISFRANCHISEMENT OF BLACK VOTERS. The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice also found no credible evidence that any Floridians were intentionally denied the right to vote.....
There are many things that are predictable about the left. Certainly charges of voter intimidation and racism are two of them whenever you talk about elections. They always occur before the election and unless the democrat wins they continue afterwards.
Republican senators press president on War Powers deadline
As the U.S. military campaign in Libya approaches the 60-day mark this Friday, six Republican senators WROTE PRESIDENT OBAMA ASKING IF HE WILL COMPLY WITH THE WAR POWERS ACT, which says Congress must authorize action that lasts more than 60 days.
"Friday is the final day of the statutory sixty-day period for you to terminate the use of the United States Armed Forces in Libya under the War Powers Resolution. Last week some in your Administration indicated use of the United States Armed Forces will continue indefinitely, while others said you would act in a manner consistent with the War Powers Resolution. Therefore, we are writing to ask whether you intend to comply with the requirements of the War Powers Resolution. We await your response," wrote the GOP senators Wednesday…..
….The GOP SENATORS SAID THEY BELIEVE THE PRESIDENT ALREADY VIOLATED PART OF THE WAR POWERS ACT – which says the president's constitutional powers allow him to only deploy troops into "hostilities" with a declaration of war, specific authorization from Congress or a national emergency caused by an attack on the U.S.
But the president did follow the provision in the 1973 law requiring him to provide information to Congress about committing U.S. forces. Now THE QUESTION IS WHETHER HE WILL ABIDE BY THE PART OF THE WAR POWERS ACT WHICH SAYS HE MUST GET CONGRESSIONAL PERMISSION WITHIN 60 DAYS.
The question here is whether a Democrat president is above the law or not.
Obama losing the recent college grads
A VERY LARGE PROPORTION OF RECENT UNIVERSITY GRADUATES HAVE SOURED ON PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, AND MANY WILL VOTE GOP OR STAY AT HOME IN THE 2012 ELECTION, according to two new surveys of younger voters.
“THESE ROCK-SOLID OBAMA CONSTITUENTS ARE FREE-AGENTS,” said Kellyanne Conway, president of The Polling Company, based in Washington, D.C. She recently completed a large survey of college grads, and “they’re shopping around, considering their options, [and] a fair number will say at home and sit it out,” she said.
The scope of this disengagement from Obama is suggested by an informal survey of 500 post-grads by Joe Maddalone, founder of Maddalone Global Strategies. OF HIS SAMPLE, 93 PERCENT ARE AGED BETWEEN 22 AND 28, 67 PERCENT ARE MALE AND 83 PERCENT VOTED FOR OBAMA IN 2008. BUT ONLY 27 PERCENT ARE COMMITTED TO VOTING FOR OBAMA AGAIN, AND 80 PERCENT SAID THEY WOULD CONSIDER VOTING FOR A REPUBLICAN, said New York-based Maddalone.
This is an enormous change from 2008. With 83% having voted for Obama, only 27% are firm in voting for Obama in 2012. That’s a 67% drop in support.
Dems on Medicare
THE DEMOCRATIC “PLAN” FOR MEDICARE — TO LEAVE THINGS AS THEY ARE — IS EVEN WORSE THAN IT SEEMS ON THE SURFACE.
As you noted last Friday, THE NEW MEDICARE TRUSTEES REPORT SAYS THE PROGRAM IS FIVE YEARS CLOSER TO BANKRUPTCY THAN IT SEEMED TO BE LAST YEAR: Its trust fund will run out of money in 2024. But the real shocker in this year’s report is A LETTER THAT THE CHIEF ACTUARY OF MEDICARE ATTACHED TO THE VERY END OF THE REPORT, BASICALLY SAYING THAT THINGS ARE MUCH WORSE THAN THE TRUSTEES SUGGEST. The letter (which starts on page 265 of the document and pretty much makes the prior 264 pages moot) first says that the trustees were compelled to adopt some near-term assumptions that are highly implausible:
In past reports, and again this year, the Board of Trustees has emphasized the strong likelihood that actual Part B expenditures will exceed the projections under current law due to further legislative action to avoid substantial reductions in the Medicare physician fee schedule. While the Part B projections in this report are reasonable in their portrayal of future costs under current law, they are not reasonable as an indication of actual future costs. CURRENT LAW WOULD REQUIRE A PHYSICIAN FEE REDUCTION OF AN ESTIMATED 29.4 PERCENT ON JANUARY 1, 2012—AN IMPLAUSIBLE EXPECTATION.
Then it says that Obamacare, because it calls for across-the-board cuts in Medicare funding but does not put in place the market mechanisms for encouraging greater productivity in health care, spells disaster for Medicare providers, and therefore for Medicare recipients:
Without major changes in health care delivery systems, the prices paid by Medicare for health services [under the cuts required in the new law] are very likely to fall increasingly short of the costs of providing these services. By the end of the long-range projection period, Medicare prices for hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health, hospice, ambulatory surgical center, diagnostic laboratory, and many other SERVICES WOULD BE LESS THAN HALF OF THEIR LEVEL UNDER THE PRIOR LAW. Medicare prices would be considerably below the current relative level of Medicaid prices, which have already led to access problems for Medicaid enrollees, and far below the levels paid by private health insurance….

Goodwin Liu Finally Falls
OBAMA'S MOST RADICALLY LEFTIST NOMINEE TO THE FEDERAL BENCH HAS BEEN DEFEATED BY GOP FILIBUSTER IN THE SENATE. Goodwin embodies the more extremist notions of the living constitution. Powerline discussed Liu's radicalism on several occasions.
THE GOP AND THE GANG OF 14 DREW A LINE IN THE SAND ON LIU, DEFINING HIS VIEWS AS THE "EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES" WHICH MERIT JUDICIAL FILIBUSTERS (see Richard Adams below). Time will tell if this is a singular anomaly or the beginning of a trend of GOP assertiveness on judicial nominations.
And here is another posting on this on Powerline
Now, an attack Liu launched against John Roberts in 2005 has surfaced and has raised new questions about his nomination.
When President Bush first nominated Roberts to succeed Sandra O'Connor, LIU RESPONDED WITH AN ATTACK THAT TELLS US NOTHING ABOUT ROBERTS BUT A GREAT DEAL ABOUT LIU. First, Liu criticized Roberts' associations:
Before becoming a judge, he belonged to the Republican National Lawyers' Association and the NATIONAL LEGAL CENTER FOR THE PUBLIC INTEREST, WHOSE MISSION IS TO PROMOTE (among other things) ``FREE ENTERPRISE,'' ``PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY,'' AND ``LIMITED GOVERNMENT.'' THESE ARE CODE WORDS FOR AN IDEOLOGICAL AGENDA HOSTILE TO ENVIRONMENTAL, WORKPLACE, AND CONSUMER PROTECTIONS.
Free enterprise, private ownership, and limited government are “code” words??? What planet is this guy living on.
