Misery

Will’s prediction on 2012

In all likelihood, one of those three individuals will be (or still be) president in 2013, George Will said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I think we know with reasonable certainty that standing up there on the West front of the Capitol on January 20th, 2013, WILL BE ONE OF THREE PEOPLE: OBAMA, PAWLENTY AND DANIELS,” he said. “I think that’s it.”

The first of many predictions for next years Presidential election.

Obama and immigration reform

BARACK OBAMA'S IMMIGRATION SPEECH IN EL PASO, TEXAS, ON MAY 10 WAS AN EXERCISE IN ELECTIONEERING AND HYPOCRISY. Hypocrisy because while Obama complained about "politicians" blocking comprehensive immigration bills, he was one of them himself.

In 2007, when such a bill was backed by a lame-duck Republican president and had bipartisan backing from Senate heavyweights Edward Kennedy and Jon Kyl, SEN. OBAMA VOTED FOR UNION-BACKED AMENDMENTS THAT KENNEDY AND KYL OPPOSED AS BILL KILLERS.

In 2009 and 2010, President OBAMA ACQUIESCED in Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to pass cap and trade and bypass immigration, and in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's decision NOT TO BRING AN IMMIGRATION BILL TO THE FLOOR.
Both times the votes were probably there to pass a bill. Obama did not lift a finger to help.

BHO is in electioneering mode. As such you need to question anything he says.

Shadow Stat Misery Index Highest on Record

John Williams, over at Shadow Stats, compiles economic data for inflation and unemployment the way it used to be calculated pre-1990. Based on that data, the CPI inflation rate is over 10%, and the unemployment rate is over 15% (see charts). The Misery Index is the sum of the current inflation rate and the unemployment rate. IF IT WERE TO BE CALCULATED USING THE OLDER METHODS, THE INDEX WOULD NOW BE OVER 25, A RECORD HIGH. IT SURPASSES THE OLD INDEX HIGH OF 21.98, WHICH OCCURRED IN JUNE 1980, WHEN JIMMY CARTER WAS PRESIDENT

“Welcome back, Carter,”

Between us, we're worth $1 trillion: The world's richest dinner party

Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

It's difficult to imagine a wealthier set of guests than those invited to the home of Silicon Valley venture capitalist John Doerr earlier this year, in the mega-wealthy enclave of Woodside, California. Together they represent companies worth nearly $1 trillion.

BY ALL ACCOUNTS, OBAMA DIDN'T HAVE AN EASY RIDE - MANY OF THE DINERS ARE GENEROUS POLITICAL DONORS AND THE PRESIDENT WAS CRITICISED FOR SLOW PROGRESS ON POLICY PROMISES. The dinner lasted two hours, and is expected to be the first in a series that Obama holds with Silicon Valley's leaders.

Back in 2004, Thomas Frank wrote a book, “What’s the matter with Kansas” in which in wondered why people in the heartland would vote conservative against their own self interest. I think he should do a sequel “What’s the matter with silicon valley” and why these billionaires could possible support BHO and the Democrats?

So how many jobs did the stimulus create or save?

Economists Timothy Conley and Bill Dupor have studied the effects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the purported stimulus bill) with great rigor. Earlier this week, they reported their findings in a paper titled "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act: Public Sector Jobs Saved, Private Sector Jobs Forestalled." The paper is dense and rather lengthy, and requires considerable study. Here, however, is the bottom line:

OUR BENCHMARK RESULTS SUGGEST THAT THE ARRA CREATED/SAVED APPROXIMATELY 450 THOUSAND STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT JOBS AND DESTROYED/FORESTALLED ROUGHLY ONE MILLION PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS. State and local government jobs were saved because ARRA funds were largely used to offset state revenue shortfalls and Medicaid increases rather than boost private sector employment. The majority of destroyed/forestalled jobs were in growth industries including health, education, professional and business services.

So we spent almost a trillion dollars to destroy approximately 500,000 jobs.

Texas House of Representatives Seeking to Ban Current TSA Pat-Down

WHAT'S OUR TAKE ON THE TEXAS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES VOTING TO BAN THE CURRENT TSA PAT-DOWN? Well, the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution (Article. VI. Clause 2) prevents states from regulating the federal government.

WE WISH WE LIVED IN A WORLD WHERE YOU COULD JUST WALK ON A PLANE WITH NO SECURITY SCREENING, BUT THAT JUST ISN'T THE CASE UNFORTUNATELY. Aviation security agencies worldwide have been using pat-downs long before TSA was created to prevent dangerous items from getting onto airplanes. The pat-down is a highly effective tool to resolve certain alarms and keep these dangerous items off of planes that could cause catastrophic damage. IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT IF A PASSENGER (OR BAG) ALARMS DURING SCREENING, OUR OFFICERS MUST RESOLVE THE ALARM BEFORE ALLOWING THE PASSENGER AND THEIR BAGGAGE ON THE AIRPLANE.

http://blog.tsa.gov/2011/05/texas-house-of-representatives-seeking.html

I don’t think many people would object to TSA pat downs or screenings for alarms. But TSA is doing random testing without any profiling. This makes the random search just about useless and is a violation of the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
