Stupidity in the News
The Sarah Palin E-Mail Treasure Hunt
THE STATE OF ALASKA IS PLANNING TO RELEASE MORE THAN 24,000 E-MAILS SENT BY SARAH PALIN DURING HER BRIEF GOVERNORSHIP TODAY. The move was the result of public records requests first made after her being picked as the Republican vice presidential nominee in 2008. The obvious intent was to hamstring the then governor as part of a Democratic Party strategy to make her life miserable by burdening her with investigations. It was this pattern of harassment and the burden of legal bills that ensued, as much as anything else (including the financial benefits of life as a one-woman media conglomerate and television celebrity), that led to her resignation in 2009.
Almost three years later, IT’S NOT CLEAR WHAT THE POINT OF THE E-MAIL DUMP IS TODAY. BUT THAT HAS NOT STOPPED THE MEDIA FROM RUSHING TO THE PALIN E-MAILS as if it were another gold rush in the Klondike. For example, liberal-leaning MSNBC has teamed with the more openly leftist journalists from ProPublica and Mother Jones to hire a research company to compile a database of the documents. But the mighty NEW YORK TIMES HAS ITS OWN SOLUTION: ENLIST ITS READERS AS PART OF AN ARMY OF E-MAIL SNOOPS SIFTING THROUGH THE E-MAILS. THE WASHINGTON POST IS ASKING THEIR READERS TO DO THE SAME THING.

Ah, the fair and balanced MSM, stupidly showing their bias.
The Problem Was the Wife
Aides to Newt Gingrich have resigned from his presidential campaign in protest of what they felt was A TAKEOVER BY CALLISTA GINGRICH, THE CANDIDATE’S WIFE SINCE 2000.
The euphemism offered by departing staffers was they disagreed with Gingrich’s “strategy” for the campaign. Indeed, they did disagree. But it was a strategy – A PART-TIME CAMPAIGN, IN EFFECT – THAT GINGRICH’S WIFE FAVORED.

Stupidity is not partial to one side or the other.
Diplomats: Iran not breaking int'l law
DESPITE WORLD POWERS' CONCERNS THAT TEHRAN IS EXPANDING ATOMIC CAPABILITY, DIPLOMATS SAY THERE IS NO EVIDENCE IT'S BUILDING NUCLEAR WEAPONS
Six former European diplomats claimed Thursday that despite the West's concerns over Iran's seemingly growing nuclear capabilities, there is no tangible proof that the Islamic Republic is pursuing nuclear weapons.
This somewhat puzzling statement was the conclusion of an article in the British Guardian, co-authored by Richard Dalton and five other former ambassadors to Iran: Germany's Paul von Maltzahn, Sweden's Steen Hohwü-Christensen, Guillaume Metten (Belgium), François Nicoullaud (France) and Italy's Roberto Toscano.
In an article, the six say THAT IRAN IS NOT IN VIOLATION OF ANY INTERNATIONAL LAWS AND THAT IT IS THE WEST'S STRATEGY THAT HAS HELPED CREATE THE CONFLICT WITH TEHRAN.
The international debate regarding Iran's continued failure to heed UN decisions, is ongoing "and a new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency rightly draws attention to the questions Iran has not answered about experiments it has made on nuclear bomb technology," the article said

And stupidity doesn’t skip people simply because they are highly educated. In fact it may be worse.
New Yorkers still support Weiner
IF POLLSTERS AND PUNDITS ARE CORRECT, THE 46-YEAR-OLD POLITICIAN'S POPULARITY WITH VOTERS COULD ENABLE HIM TO WEATHER A SCANDAL THAT ERUPTED MONDAY with his confession that he had engaged in sexually charged online antics with several women. They included sending women racy messages and pictures of his crotch and bare chest, even after his marriage in July to Hillary Rodham Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who is reportedly pregnant.
That was enough to convince Helkha Hylton that he should go. "I'm married. I have twins. Whatever else he does, he should step down," Hylton said as she walked along Queens Boulevard. "He's in the public eye. He should be ashamed of himself."
But her view was not widely echoed along the traffic-choked thoroughfare.

Coming from a large liberal bastion actually makes it more likely you are stupid and less likely that you would be aware of it.
Alec Baldwin, an Erasmus for Our Time
Just as I hope Anthony Weiner stays in Congress as a poster boy for the Democratic party, I hope Alec Baldwin continues commenting on politics for the Puffington Host with gems like this:
My thought on Weiner is that he is a very busy man. Like most, although not all, politicians, he probably spends a great deal of time going to meetings, raising campaign funds and seizing upon every opportunity to remind people of how great he is as a public servant and a human being. It’s exhausting. HE EXISTS UNDER A CONSTANT PRESSURE COOKER OF SELF-ANALYSIS AND PUBLIC APPRAISAL. LIKE OTHER POLITICIANS, HE NEEDS SOMETHING TO TAKE THE EDGE OFF. For some people, regardless of occupation, that could mean booze, drugs, gambling, food or shopping. For high functioning men like Weiner and other officials who have lived through such scandals, who are constantly on the go, that leaves one tried and true source of a reliable high. THE AFFIRMATION THAT COMES WHEN SOMEONE LETS YOU KNOW THEY WANT TO SLEEP WITH YOU. OR EVEN CYBER-SLEEP WITH YOU.

And even more stupidity comes forth when liberal actors try to excuse liberal congressmen.
Napolitano: No "Logic" In Profiling Muslim Men Under The Age Of 35
"You're not using good logic there. You've got to use actual intelligence that you received. And, so, you might -- all you've given me is a kind of status. YOU HAVE NOT GIVEN ME A TECHNIQUE FOR TACTIC OR BEHAVIOR. SOMETHING THAT WOULD SUGGEST SOMEBODY IS NOT MUSLIM, BUT ISLAMIC, THAT HAS ACTUALLY MOVED INTO THE CATEGORY OF VIOLENT EXTREMISTS," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said at a forum on U.S. security and preventing terrorist attacks.
"We have ways to make some of those cuts. And they involve the intel that comes in, the analysis that goes on. For example, we often times, for travelers entering the United States, we won't not do what is called a secondary inspection just because they are a 35-year- old male who appears to be Muslim, whatever that means. BUT WE KNOW FROM INTELLIGENCE THAT IF THEY HAVE A CERTAIN TRAVEL PATTERN OVER A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME, THAT SHOULD CAUSE US TO ASK SOME MORE SIGNIFICANT QUESTIONS THAN IF WE DON'T."

Stupidity is saying something like this while endorsing body searches 6 year olds and 65 year old grandmas.
Utility giant AEP says it will close five coal plants to comply with EPA regs
UTILITY GIANT AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER SAID THURSDAY THAT IT WILL SHUT DOWN FIVE COAL-FIRED POWER PLANTS AND SPEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO COMPLY WITH A SERIES OF PENDING ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY REGULATIONS.
The company’s dramatic plan to comply with the regulations could give Republicans and moderate Democrats ammunition in their ongoing fight against EPA's efforts to impose new regulations aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants including mercury and arsenic.
Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) immediately pounced on AEP's announcement.
“THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE EPA IMPLEMENTING RULES AND REGULATIONS WITHOUT CONSIDERING THE DEVASTATING IMPACT THEY MAY HAVE ON LOCAL ECONOMIES AND JOBS,” Capito said.

Hmmm, and you wonder what they will replace it with? More stupidity.
Morally-Schizoid Liberal Women and Their Weiner Husbands
The saddest thing about the whole sordid, societally humiliating Weiner affair, is that it HIGHLIGHTS ONCE AGAIN THE MORALLY-SCHIZOID NATURE OF THE MODERN LIBERAL WOMAN. I've known many of these women -- a great many -- and it never ceases to confound me how smart women can be such ridiculous fools when it comes to choosing men.
On the one hand, liberal women believe wholeheartedly in the idiotic social construct they call, "sexual liberation." THEY PRIDE THEMSELVES ON LOSING THEIR VIRGINITY, AS THOUGH THAT "ACCOMPLISHMENT" HAD EVER BEEN ABOVE THE CHALLENGE-SCALE OF AN ALLEY CAT IN HEAT.
These liberal women I've known, having given away their female V-card over and over and over again, all the while scour their host of intimate "trial runs" searching for that mythical, Hollywood-construct, Mr. Right. THIS MR. RIGHT GUY, FOR WHOM THEY ARE SEARCHING, IS KNOWN TO THEM UP FRONT AS EVEN MORE SEXUALLY-LIBERATED THAN THEY, BUT THIS LITTLE FACTOID SEEMS NOT TO REGISTER IN THEIR LIBERATED LITTLE HEADS AS THEY FRANTICALLY SEARCH FOR THE EQUALLY MYTHICAL FAMILY HOME WITH THE WHITE PICKET FENCE, which somehow never gets hit by any of life's roving tornadoes. One can almost hear them say in unison, "And they all lived happily ever after."
As their relentless biological clocks tick towards fertility's Armageddon, these sexually "liberated" women suddenly become obsessed with their medical checkups, running to the OBGYN with neurotic frequency, to make sure their alley-cat lifestyle has not resulted in any of the dreaded, fertility-destroying sexually transmitted diseases. I've seen some of these women nearly go completely insane as they receive one of those now-common, "SO SORRY I MAY HAVE INFECTED YOU" LOVE NOTES FROM A FORMER "LOVER." IT'S ENOUGH TO MAKE WISE WOMEN CRY FOR THEM. Yes, we pity them and wonder over and over HOW OUR SISTERS, SO SMART IN SO MANY WAYS, COULD BE SO UTTERLY MIDDLE-SCHOOL-LEVEL STUPID.

PBS hires Ann Coulter

Live Mikes and Democrats
Politicians are notorious for the use of canned talking points. So when New York Sen. Chuck Schumer stuck his foot in his mouth on a conference call this week by admitting that he was simply parroting what Democratic Party chiefs had told him to say about the Tea Party, it wasn't as shocking as some made it out to be.
SLOPPY, YES. JAW-DROPPING, NO.
Schumer was caught on tape explaining to his fellow Democrats WHY HE FAVORS CHARACTERIZING SPENDING CUTS PROPOSED BY THE GOP AS "EXTREME" AND "DRACONIAN."
He proceeded to elaborate: "I ALWAYS USE THE WORD 'EXTREME'; THAT'S WHAT THE CAUCUS INSTRUCTED ME TO DO THE OTHER WEEK."
His unknowing moment of honesty EXPOSED HOW THE LEFT IS STILL DESPERATELY TRYING TO SLANDER THE TEA PARTY, stubbornly refusing to acknowledge its members' concerns and respect their opinions, unwilling to stop mocking them (as, for example, with the tired "tea bagger" label).

It seems that when Democrats don’t know others can hear them they say what they really think and mean, and it doesn’t work out too well for them.

USAID Official claims Republicans budget cuts will kill 70,000 Kids
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/04/01/obama-official-gop-budget-kill-70000-kids/
Here is someone who obviously believes the best defense is a good offense. In the current budget situation he is asking for a 22% increase!!! Looking at history, the USAID budget in 2006 was $20.7 billion which increased 25% over the previous six years. If USAID were granted what they asked for here, that would amount to a 187% increase over the last six years. When the Democrats tell you about dire consequences in cutting the budget, understand they are not telling you the truth.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today, in the first of a series of stunning announcements, that ITS TELEVISION SUBSIDIARY THE PUBLIC BROADCASTING SYSTEM (PBS) WILL BE REPLACING THE DEFUNCT BILL MOYERS JOURNAL WITH A NEW WEEKLY PROGRAM, ANN COULTER'S FAR OUT JOURNEY.
The Coulter show is one of several dramatic changes to the public broadcasting network composed of PBS and its corporate sibling National Public Radio (NPR). The changes are the result of major upheavals in the wake of the firing of NPR commentator Juan Williams and covert 60 Minutes-style videos from journalist James O'Keefe showing NPR executives entertaining financial offers from "donors" they believed to be representing the Muslim Brotherhood. The shift in approach is also a direct consequence of the Republican and Tea Party victories in the U.S. House and Senate in the 2010 elections.

Obama gets transparency award—in secret
President Barack Obama accepted an award for making the government more open and transparent in secret.
The White House even left the event off the President’s public schedule, so no one knew about it and requests for journalists to cover the meeting by those attending were turned down.
‘To have such a meeting not be transparent is the height of irony. How absurd can that be?’ said one participant, Gary Bass, executive director of OMB Watch, which keeps tabs on the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Obama’s choice: The False Choice
It’s time to retire the false choice.
As a rhetorical device, particularly as A POLITICAL RHETORICAL DEVICE, THE FALSE CHOICE HAS OUTLIVED ITS USEFULNESS, IF IT EVER HAD ANY. The phrase has become a trite substitute for serious thinking. It serves too often to obscure rather than to explain….
…. THE FIRST, A PARTICULAR OBAMA SPECIALTY, IS THE “FALSE” FALSE CHOICE. Set up two unacceptable extremes that no one is seriously advocating and position yourself as the champion of the reasonable middle ground between these unidentified straw men.
Thus, Obama on health care, stretching back to the presidential campaign: “I REJECT THE TIRED OLD DEBATE THAT SAYS WE HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN TWO EXTREMES: GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE WITH HIGHER TAXES — OR INSURANCE COMPANIES WITHOUT RULES DENYING PEOPLE COVERAGE,” he said in 2008. “That’s a false choice.” IT’S ALSO A CHOICE THAT NO ONE — CERTAINLY NO OTHER POLITICIAN — WAS PROPOSING.
Or Obama on financial reform: “WE NEED NOT CHOOSE BETWEEN A CHAOTIC AND UNFORGIVING CAPITALISM AND AN OPPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT-RUN ECONOMY. That is a false choice that will not serve our people or any people.” Again, please find me the advocate of either extreme….

Krauthammer’s Take: Obama on Energy
From Wednesday night’s Fox News All-Stars.http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/263608/krauthammers-take-nro-staff
On President Obama’s speech on energy policy:
"You’ll notice he picked an odd number as his starting point as a way to measure the one-third reduction. He said ‘WHEN I WAS SWORN INTO OFFICE,’ AND YOU ASK YOURSELF, WELL, WHY WOULD HE PICK THAT NUMBER INSTEAD OF TODAY’S? It’s because on the day he was sworn into office we imported 11 million barrels a day. Well, because of recession and other causes it’s now 9.7 [million]. SO WE’RE A THIRD OF THE WAY TO HIS GOAL AS OF TODAY WITHOUT HIM HAVING LIFTED A FINGER."
So Obama takes credit for the recession when it’s in his interest to do so, but blames Bush for the bad parts. I guess he really is just another politician.
Obama would ignore Congress if they tried to curtail Libya actions
Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), who asked Clinton about the War Powers Act during a classified briefing, SAID CLINTON AND THE ADMINISTRATION ARE SIDESTEPPING THE MEASURE’S PROVISIONS GIVING CONGRESS THE ABILITY TO PUT A 60-DAY TIME LIMIT ON ANY MILITARY ACTION.
“They are not committed to following the important part of the War Powers Act,” he told TPM in a phone interview. “SHE SAID THEY ARE CERTAINLY WILLING TO SEND REPORTS [TO US] AND IF THEY ISSUE A PRESS RELEASE, THEY’LL SEND THAT TO US TOO.”
THE WHITE HOUSE WOULD FORGE AHEAD WITH MILITARY ACTION IN LIBYA EVEN IF CONGRESS PASSED A RESOLUTION CONSTRAINING THE MISSION, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said during a classified briefing to House members Wednesday afternoon.

Just Say No
This oral testimony (around 25 minutes) by ARNOLD KLING, A FORMER FREDDIE MAC ECONOMIST AND NOW MY COLLEAGUE AT THE MERCATUS CENTER, IS A MUST-WATCH. Speaking before the Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday, he urged Congress to “just say no,” to more government involvement in the housing market.http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/263574/just-say-no-veronique-de-rugy
ANY SCHEME TO BRING A GOVERNMENT GUARANTEE IS COMPARABLE TO BUILDING A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ON TOP OF A FAULT LINE.
The best part is when Kling explains that “IT WOULD BE NAÏVE TO THINK THE PRIVATE SECTOR ALWAYS GETS THINGS RIGHT. BUT EVEN MORE NAÏVE TO THINK GOVERNMENT COULD GET IT RIGHT. THE GOVERNMENT IS CAPTURED BY SPECIAL INTERESTS.” As evidence, he points to the other witnesses on the panel: Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, and Michael Berman, chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association. Both institutions would benefit from a government guarantee on mortgage-backed securitizations, which is one option under consideration. The chairman was obviously upset with Kling, but I thought it was priceless.
How true this is. Special interests are always trying to get government to do their bidding. Government is neither efficient nor effective, it is political.
USAID Official claims Republicans budget cuts will kill 70,000 Kids
House Republicans offered delayed outrage to President Obama's point man on U.S. development and humanitarian missions, who testified before Congress this week that A BUDGET PLAN HOUSE REPUBLICANS PASSED LAST MONTH WOULD LEAD TO 70,000 KIDS DYING.
USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah told the House Appropriations State and Foreign Ops subcommittee on Wednesday that the budget plan, which would cut $61 billion in federal spending, would lead to the deaths of 30,000 kids in a malaria control program that would have to be scaled back, 24,000 from a lack of immunizations and 16,000 from a lack of skilled attendants at birth.
"There's a way to do this that does not have to cost lives and we're very focused and very much want to work with the committee to identify a path forward that can allow us to be effective at doing so," he said. SHAH IS SEEKING $59.5 BILLION IN FUNDING FOR HIS AGENCY, UP 22 PERCENT, OR $10.7 BILLION, FROM THE CURRENT LEVEL.

Democrats and disaster
The State of Liberalism today
http://spectator.org/archives/2011/02/21/is-liberalism-dead/1
An excellent article which gives you a lot of insight into the stakes at play in Wisconsin and other states in the Union. Liberals are fighting for their lives. The recession combined with drying up of money in government coffers thereby neutering the left’s ability to buy support is the biggest challenge liberalism has faced in the past 100 years.
Rubicon: A river in Wisconsin
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/24/AR2011022406520.html
The lines are drawn. Democratic lawmakers are fleeing their state rather than accept reality. In 2008 they told us that elections have consequences. Now they are in denial of that fact.
New Study: Developing Alaska’s OCS
Too bad that liberals don’t want us to drill, produce the energy and the jobs.
Where has all the leadership gone?
….“PUBLIC SECTOR LIBERALISM" represents the logical terminus for a movement that began in an effort to redraw the boundaries of government action in order to bring industrial capitalism to heel and grew in tandem with the expansion of government….
….The conflict today between democrats and republicans increasingly puts PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS AND BENEFICIARIES OF PUBLIC PROGRAMS AGAINST THE MIDDLE-CLASS TAXPAYER AND BUSINESS INTERESTS LARGE AND SMALL…
….How this standoff is resolved between popular conservatism and public sector liberalism is a legitimate subject for debate and speculation. It is obvious, however, that LIBERALISM CAN ONLY PROSPER IF IT CAN CONTINUE TO BUILD COALITIONS THROUGH PUBLIC SPENDING, PUBLIC BORROWING, AND PUBLICLY GUARANTEED CREDIT. These are the resources that underwrite their institutional advantages. Should those resources dry up, as they are now doing as a consequence of the long recession, LIBERALISM WILL UNWIND AS A POLITICAL FORCE AS PUBLIC PROGRAMS ARE CUT, PUBLIC EMPLOYEES ARE LET GO, AND RETIREMENT ARRANGEMENTS WITH PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS ARE RENEGOTIATED. In some public sector states, such outcomes now appear inevitable. Conservatives are in a position to hasten this process along by refusing to approve the spending, borrowing, and federal bailouts that will be required to keep public sector liberalism afloat, though at the price of being blamed for the pain and suffering associated with its collapse. But this is undoubtedly a price worth paying to guide the nation through an adjustment that will otherwise take place later and under circumstances far less to anyone's liking

Rubicon: A river in Wisconsin
The magnificent turmoil now gripping statehouses in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and soon others marks an epic political moment. The nation faces a fiscal crisis of historic proportions and, remarkably, our muddled, gridlocked, allegedly broken politics have yielded singular clarity.
At the federal level, PRESIDENT OBAMA'S BUDGET MAKES CLEAR THAT DEMOCRATS ARE DETERMINED TO DO NOTHING ABOUT THE DEBT CRISIS, while House Republicans have announced that beyond their proposed cuts in discretionary spending, their April budget will actually propose real entitlement reform. Simultaneously, in Wisconsin and other states, Republican governors are taking on unsustainable, fiscally ruinous pension and health-care obligations, WHILE DEMOCRATS ARE FULL-THROATED IN SUPPORT OF THE PUBLIC-EMPLOYEE UNIONS CRYING, "HELL, NO."

The lines are drawn. Democratic lawmakers are fleeing their state rather than accept reality. In 2008 they told us that elections have consequences. Now they are in denial of that fact.
New Study: Developing Alaska’s OCS
A new study says DRILLING ON ALASKA’S OUTER CONTINENTAL SHELF (OCS) COULD MAKE ALASKA THE EIGHTH LARGEST OIL RESOURCE PROVINCE IN THE WORLD -- ahead of Nigeria, Libya, Russia and Norway.http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/new-study-shows-offshore-drilling-alaska
The report -- by the consulting firm Northern Economics and the University of Alaska-Anchorage’s Institute of Social and Economic Research -- says that developing Alaska’s OCS could produce almost 10 BILLION BARRELS OF OIL AND 15 TRILLION CUBIC FEET OF NATURAL GAS, create around 55,000 NEW JOBS and produce $145 billion in new payroll nationally, generating a total of $193 billion in government revenue through the year 2057.
Too bad that liberals don’t want us to drill, produce the energy and the jobs.
Where has all the leadership gone?
…But after telling Tea Party Americans that HE WAS GOING TO "CALL THEIR BLUFF" AND PROPOSE "DIFFICULT CHOICES" to get our runaway deficits under control, what did the president offer in terms of a budget? HE PUT FORTH A PLAN THAT WOULD SEE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BORROW MORE MONEY IN HIS FOUR YEARS THAN UNDER THE PREVIOUS 43 PRESIDENTS COMBINED. And what tough choices did he recommend to rectify the massive unfunded liabilities that are preparing to devour our economy? None.http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/02/leaders_among_us.html
The president's budget is such a disgrace that EVEN EVAN THOMAS, THE NEWSWEEK WRITER WHO ONCE COMPARED OBAMA TO GOD, CALLED IT A "PROFILE IN COWARDICE." Obama has called for a scalpel to be taken to federal spending when a fleet of jackhammers and buzz saws are in order. Knowing the calamity that awaits us, HE PREFERS TO MORTGAGE OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE IN ORDER TO AVOID THE NECESSARY CUTS THAT MIGHT JEOPARDIZE HIS OWN RE-ELECTION BID. That's not hope. That's not change. That's not leadership.
But all is not lost. Despite the miserable failure in the Oval Office, THERE ARE LEADERS AMONG US. THEY ARE EMERGING IN MIDWESTERN STATES LIKE WISCONSIN, MICHIGAN AND OHIO. Indeed, while most political analysts were focusing on the historic turnover in the U.S. Congress, the most significant impact of the 2010 midterm elections is proving to be what happened in statehouses and governor mansions around the country. There, the people handed the machinery of government over to the Republican Party with one demand: STOP TELLING US WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR SIMPLY TO GET ELECTED, AND START TELLING US WHAT MUST BE DONE TO SAVE OUR REPUBLIC.
