Crony Capitalism, Congress and Catholics

What’s new today

Our # 1 describes how after three years and how expectations were raised, we now find President Obama appears to be just another politician.  #2 we find out the Warren Buffet is just another rich guy looking to pay as little as possible to the government. #3 tells the story of how Congress is made up of people like the rest of us, but people who seem to write the laws so they can make money doing things that would put us in jail.  Article #4 bring George Soros into the just another category as the book Throw Them All Out tells how Soros has used his crony connections to make millions off the government.  #5 relates how the OWS movement isn’t looking to fix something, but to overthrow the system that has made us the most prosperous society in the history of mankind.  It seems the left keeps coming up with things that look good on paper but never work in real life.  #6 describes what OWS has accomplished so far.  #7 and #8 discuss situations with the left and Catholics in the USA.

1.   Just another Politician

BARACK OBAMA'S CRUSADE AGAINST POLITICAL APATHY, which helped drive voters to the polls in 2008, IS BACKFIRING FOUR YEARS LATER AS AMERICANS GROW INCREASINGLY FRUSTRATED WITH THE SPUTTERING ECONOMY AND GRIDLOCK IN WASHINGTON.

Several weeks after he announced his bid for the presidency in 2007, Obama ordered a mostly black crowd in Selma, Ala., to "get off the couch" because "we have too many children in poverty in this country and everybody should be ashamed."

"Take off your bedroom slippers," Obama shouted. "Put on your marching shoes. Go do some politics. Change this country!"

When he criticized Americans' materialism and said younger generations have come to believe they don't "have to make as many sacrifices" as the generations that preceded them, the crowds cheered him.

Back then, Americans -- numbed by years of war and anxious about a lingering recession -- FELT INSPIRED BY OBAMA'S CALL TO ACTION. Back then, Obama was still a community organizer, not a Washington insider even though he was already serving in the Senate.

He told them change can't just come from Washington, that Americans must step up and get involved in bettering their communities, and they listened.

FOUR YEARS LATER, "BARACK OBAMA NOW LOOKS LIKE EVERY OTHER POLITICIAN,"

A call to action by Obama now is ridiculous.  He’s been in office almost three years.  If we need action, he should already have been doing it!

2.   Irony: Warren Buffett Suing the IRS

WARREN BUFFETT, WHO HAS BEEN RUNNING AROUND COMPLAINING THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD "STOP CODDLING THE SUPER-RICH" AND SHOULD RAISE TAXES, IS REPORTEDLY SUING THE IRS TO AVOID $643 MILLION IN TAXES that the government says Berkshire Hathaway's NetJets subsidiary owes the government for failing to collect ticket taxes from NetJets customers (who include Mr. Buffett himself). The suit against the IRS is filed by NetJets Large Aircraft Inc., not by Mr. Buffett himself, but Mr. Buffett is CEO of NetJet parent Berkshire and its largest individual shareholder….

I think the Democrats need a new poster child for their attacks on the rich not paying their fair share.

3.   Do Congress People Have Unfair Advantages In The Stock Market?

BigGovernment.com has obtained records of Massachusetts Democrat SENATOR JOHN KERRY AND HIS WIFE TERESA HEINZ’S STOCK PORTFOLIOS THAT SHOW ALMOST PERFECTLY TIMED PHARMACEUTICAL STOCK TRADES DURING THE OBAMACARE DEBATE, which fattened their already enormous personal fortune.

The documents further support allegations of suspicious trading leveled during Sunday’s 60 Minutes report about the explosive new book by investigative reporter and Breitbart News editor Peter Schweizer, Throw Them All Out.

Sen. John Kerry’s position on the powerful Senate Finance Committee’s Health Subcommittee gives him direct access to critical information regarding health care policy. In July 2009, pharmaceutical industry representatives met with key members of Congress to flesh out the Obamacare bill. Then, IN NOVEMBER 2009, WITH THE BILL’S PASSAGE WAS LOOKING MORE LIKELY, THE KERRYS’ PORTFOLIOS REFLECT A DRUG STOCK BUYING SPREE….

It’s rather ironic that here are two of the most passionate “tax” increasers doing things that are absolutely contrary to the public stance they take on “fairness.”  I guess hypocrisy is a human trait, not simply one for one political movement or the other.

4.  Throw Them All Out—Including Media Matters

Media Matters has offered up ridiculous post that tries to distort the fundamental facts about Barack Obama’s green energy program. I hesitated whether to even comment on it because they fail in the basic tenets of honest journalism. GEORGE SOROS IS A LARGE CONTRIBUTOR TO MEDIA MATTERS. In my book Throw Them All Out, I point out how SOROS HAS RECEIVED MILLIONS IN TAXPAYER MONEY VIA THE GREEN ENERGY PROGRAM. And I also devote an entire chapter to Soros’s crony capitalism as it relates to the stimulus. Does Media Matters disclose this blatant conflict of interest? Of course not. Media Matters is displaying blatant cronyism, pure and simple.

It appears Soros through Media Matters is trying to defend himself or at least divert attention from his taking government money.  The authors of Throw Them All Out has said perhaps he’ll put a chapter on Media Matters in the paperback edition of his book.

5.  What the Occupy Movement is really all about

…“WE’RE NO LONGER SETTLING FOR 'WE LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY BECAUSE WE VOTED FOR A POLITICIAN,'" left-wing rabble rouser and propaganda moviemaker Michael Moore has explained. “Those days are over,” he said. “Capitalism is an evil system.”

As Moore explained, Occupy is not about organizing for the next election – an election that looks increasingly likely to be another landslide in favor of limited government. OCCUPY IS ABOUT REPLACING OUR DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS WITH NAKED FORCE, REPLACING THE RULE OF LAW WITH THE INTIMIDATION OF STREET THUGS, AND OUR CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC WITH THE SAME TYPE OF AUTOCRATIC TYRANNY THAT (NOTWITHSTANDING NAÏVE GOOD INTENTIONS) ALWAYS ENDS UP ACCOMPANYING SOCIALISM.

In good Orwellian fashion, the occupiers chant: “this is what democracy looks like,” as if they hadn’t been resoundingly trounced in the last national elections.

In fact, they lost by historic margins in one of the biggest landslides in the country’s history, including 63 House seats, 6 Senate seats (7 if you count Scott Brown’s victory earlier in the year), and over 675 state legislative seats….

OWS is not democracy.  It is anarchy that is in favor a big government which means it wants the force of government to enact their demands.

6.  Occupy Wall Street’s Accomplishments

This week an eccentric Midtown Manhattan newspaper editorialized, seemingly with deadpan irony, that “THE OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTESTERS HAD ACHIEVED A GREAT DEAL” before the forces of Mayor Bloomberg literally cleaned the scum out of Zuccotti Park.

IN FACT, THE SUM TOTAL OF WHAT OCCUPY WALL STREET  HAS ACCOMPLISHED IS ZERO. The media that defend OWS claim that it is a success because it has . . . gotten lots of media coverage. But INSPIRING CHAT AROUND THE NATIONAL WATERCOOLER IS NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT. If media mentions equalled political importance, we’d all be waiting for President Kardashian’s big speech about Iran….

Actually what they’ve really accomplished so far is to turn the majority of Americans against them while those who continue to support them either make excuses for the violence, drug use, criminal activities, or simply ignore these things.

7.   Why Do Catholics Keep Funding the Radical Left?

Every November, including this one, American Catholics -- who constitute approximately 25% of the U.S. population -- are asked TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (CCHD). The Catholic faithful have been told that their donations will go to fight poverty.

Little do most of them realize WHAT THEIR MONEY WILL ACTUALLY FUND. CCHD IS THE BRAINCHILD  OF SAUL ALINSKY, the "father of community organizing." Alinsky (1909-1972) had numerous connections in the Catholic community of his native Chicago, some of them nearly as radical as he was. He helped start CCHD in 1969.

Unfortunately, the benevolent-sounding term "community organizing" has a very specific meaning amongst people working in the Alinsky tradition -- and it's not what you would think. IN FACT, A MORE FITTING TERM WOULD BE " COMMUNITY DISORGANIZING." ALINSKYITES ARE TRAINED TO GO INTO POOR COMMUNITIES AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY BEAT PEOPLE UP UNTIL THOSE PEOPLE HAVE LOST ALL HOPE FOR ANY SOLUTIONS OTHER THAN RADICAL CHANGE. Once the people are thoroughly demoralized, and have become passive putty in the activist's hands, that same "organizer" will rile them up, exhorting them to blame all their problems on "the establishment."….

The author goes on admitting they were a former left wing radical to identify code words used by the left to confuse the true meaning of what they are doing or intend on doing.  Hence empowerment and justice means one thing to the left and something entirely different to Catholics.

8.   A Liberal Irish Catholic Journey from the Left to Sanity

…For me, the road to disaffection started with a novelist and ended with several liberal politicians. The light of skepticism was lit by George Orwell, fanned by the Kennedy brothers, and flared into full-blown apostasy with Daniel Patrick  Moynihan.

By the time I got to high school, Orwell was already something of a cult figure. He appeared in the ubiquitous Survey of English Literature class, the textbook for which sold by the pound. ORWELL WAS A POPULAR ASSIGNMENT BECAUSE MOST OF WHAT HE WROTE WAS MERCIFULLY SHORT. Our instructor was a Jesuit who tended to emphasize allegory at the expense of Orwell's political message. THE HARSH CRITIQUE OF THE SOVIETS IN ANIMAL FARM AND 1984 MAY HAVE HIT A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO HOME FOR URBAN AMERICAN CATHOLICS WHO SHARED SOME COMMUNAL INSTINCTS, IF NOT METHODS, WITH COMMUNISTS.

ORWELL HAD SERVED WITH COMMUNISTS IN THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR AGAINST FRANCO FASCISTS. He was a curb level expert on the contradictions between leftist ideology and policy. Communism did not prevail in Spain, but it did prevail in Europe after WWII. In 1945 Orwell took on our Soviet "ally" while the Western press was still calling Joseph Stalin "Uncle Joe."

The skepticism of literary figures like Orwell, and solitary politicians like Winston Churchill, would prove prophetic. Eventually, the Soviet experiment collapsed, but THE INFLUENCE OF MARXISM SURVIVED TO INFEST THE COLD WAR SOCIAL DEMOCRACIES INCLUDING THE AMERICAS. Orwell's message, for me, was not ideological; it was utilitarian -- how easily people might be misled, in a democracy, by promises that could never be kept. Orwell planted the seeds of doubt about utopian politics.

An interesting look at someone who was programed to be a Democrat and how he finally broke with the left.
