Politics begins anew

The title today, “Politics begins anew” is very descriptive. Everything changes tomorrow when the new congress is sworn in. We are starting to hear what that means.
Back in 2008, when Barack Obama won the Presidency and the Democrats gain huge majorities in the House and the Senate, pundits were talking about a shift that would last a generation. In two short years, that generation disappeared as the Democrats lost House and had their strength in the Senate significantly reduced.

The politics in America has significantly changed. The rise of the Tea Party has changed the rules and it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next two years.

House GOP plans two-pronged assault on health law

The new Republican-controlled House plans to schedule a vote to repeal the sweeping health care overhaul before President Barack Obama delivers his annual State of the Union address late this month, incoming House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) said Sunday.

“We have 242 Republicans,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.” He added, “There will be a significant number of Democrats, I think, that will join us. You will remember when that vote passed in the House last March, it only passed by seven votes.”

Upton, whose committee will play a key role in the GOP's effort to roll back the law, said that HE BELIEVES THE HOUSE MAY BE NEAR THE TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY REQUIRED TO OVERRIDE A PRESIDENTIAL VETO.

“If we pass this bill with a sizeable vote, and I think that we will, IT WILL PUT ENORMOUS PRESSURE ON THE SENATE TO DO PERHAPS THE SAME THING,” he said. “But then, after that, WE'RE GOING TO GO AFTER THIS BILL PIECE BY PIECE.”

The democrats paid a big price for Obamacare, but thought they were done with it after they passed it. I think the big mistake they made was delaying the implementation of the universal care portion to 2014. The Republicans have the time to repeal it.

ABC News Staffer Warns GOP Against ObamaCare Repeal

In the meantime, the MSM says that the GOP will be wrong to repeal Obamacare or even talk about doing so. Does that surprise you?

The healthcare bill political autopsy

After this, DEMOCRATS WENT FORTH WITH ADS CRITICAL OF THE HEALTH-CARE BILL TO COUNTER REPUBLICAN ADS that also opposed the bill. According to one analysis, three times as many ad dollars were spent on health-care commercials opposing the bill than supporting it—among Democrats. WISCONSIN SENATOR RUSS FEINGOLD WAS CONSIDERED BOLD FOR DARING TO RUN AN AD TOUTING HIS SUPPORT FOR THE BILL in his race against the Republican businessman Ron Johnson. Feingold spokesman John Kraus told the Washington Post at the time that “Russ has the backbone to stand by reform while Johnson doesn’t have the guts to stand by his plan to repeal reform.”

When Election Day came, Republicans gained 63 seats in the House and SIX SEATS IN THE SENATE—INCLUDING FEINGOLD’S—and made extraordinary gains at the state level among governors and state legislatures. OF THE 219 DEMOCRATS WHO HAD VOTED YES ON THE HEALTH-CARE BILL, 52—ALMOST A QUARTER—DID NOT RETURN, owing to retirement or defeat.

If you want to read a political autopsy of Obamacare this is an excellent article. And when you hear democrats say the reason for their defeat was simply the bad economy, you will know where they are blowing smoke.

The Coming Political Upheaval

The late Murray Rothbard, famous Austrian economist and libertarian, published a collection of essays under the title Making Economic Sense. One subsection was entitled "Politics as Economic Violence." That phrase described, in Rothbard's view, politics' contribution to society.

Rothbard's reasoning was simple: ECONOMICS IS THE INTERACTION OF PEOPLE FREELY MAKING CHOICES WHILE SUBJECT TO MINIMAL RESTRICTION (NO THEFT, COERCION, FRAUD, ETC.). POLITICS IS COERCION TO FORCE OUTCOMES THAT OTHERWISE WOULD NOT OCCUR. Thus, politics is violence against economics, or people, because it precludes freedom's running its natural course…..

After decades of violence against economics, THE ECONOMY HOVERS ON THE BRINK OF DESTRUCTION. There are too many to list, but some of THE POLITICAL FALLACIES that brought us to this point are the following:

• Bigger government means more prosperity.

• Everyone is entitled to own a house.

• Non-producers are entitled to live at the expense of producers.

• Deficits are good for the economy.

• Government can spend your money better than you can.

• Printing money can increase real wealth.

• The economy can be managed by a central authority.

This is a very interesting article. The upheaval to come is the public sector unions and their pensions. Worth a read.

Who said this?

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. LEADERSHIP MEANS THAT ‘THE BUCK STOPS HERE. Instead, WASHINGTON IS SHIFTING THE BURDEN OF BAD CHOICES TODAY ONTO THE BACKS OF OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Answer: Barack H. Obama in 2006 when he voted against raising the debt.

State ‘Death Panels’ Attributable to Single-Payer

Norman Ornstein had a piece in the Washington Post RAILING AGAINST “DEATH PANELS” in Indiana and Arizona, both of which involved MEDICAID BUDGET LIMITS. He omitted the death panel in Oregon — perhaps because it is a liberal state? — which has EXPLICITLY RATIONED CARE UNDER MEDICAID SINCE BEING ALLOWED TO CONDUCT RATIONING UNDER THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION. In Oregon, MEDICAID HAS A LIST OF OVER 700 PROCEDURES, AND WILL COVER ONLY THE NUMBER PERMITTED BY THEIR BUDGET, usually in the low- to mid-600s. All those procedures on the wrong side of the line are not paid for by Medicaid.

THE POINT OF OREGON’S EXPERIMENT WAS TO EXPAND COVERAGE AT THE EXPENSE OF CUTTING OFF THE SICKEST PEOPLE…. In 2008, two late-stage cancer patients were denied chemotherapy that could have extended their lives by Medicaid — but were OFFERED PAYMENT FOR THEIR ASSISTED SUICIDES!

What is the common thread that connects the death panels in these three states? MEDICAID IS A SINGLE-PAYER SYSTEM in which budgets are limited. When the money runs out, people’s options shrink. See also, the U.K.’s NHS and, increasingly, Canada’s national health-care system, in which life-extending chemotherapy has also been restricted in some places.

But I thought Obama and the Democrats said we wouldn’t and couldn’t have “Death Panels.”

U.S. changes how it measures long-term unemployment

So many Americans have been jobless for so long that the government is changing how it records long-term unemployment.

Citing what it calls "an unprecedented rise" in long-term unemployment, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), beginning Saturday, WILL RAISE FROM TWO YEARS TO FIVE YEARS THE UPPER LIMIT ON HOW LONG SOMEONE CAN BE LISTED AS HAVING BEEN JOBLESS

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-12-28-1Ajobless28_ST_N.htm

Somehow I am reminded of the line in the Movie Jaws, “We’re going to need a bigger boat.” This is not good news.

Wind farms fail in worst cold spell in the UK in 500 years

Despite high demand for electricity as people shivered at home over Christmas, most of the 3,000 wind turbines around Britain stood still due to a lack of wind.

Even yesterday , when conditions were slightly breezier, wind FARMS GENERATED JUST 1.8 PER CENT OF THE NATION’S ELECTRICITY — less than a third of usual levels.

The failure of wind farms to function at full tilt during December FORCED ENERGY SUPPLIERS TO RELY ON COAL-FIRED POWER STATIONS TO KEEP THE LIGHTS ON — meaning more greenhouse gases were produced.

Experts feared that as the Government moved towards a target of generating 30 per cent of electricity from wind — while closing gas and coal-fired power stations — cold, still winters could cause a problem in the future.

I posted a similar story a few days ago. I’m posting this one because over the weekend I heard that NOT ONE COAL FIRED GENERATING PLANT HAS BEEN APPROVED IN THE USA IN THE PAST TWO YEARS! The liberals will be the death of us yet.

With Air Force's new drone, 'we can see everything'

This winter, the Air Force is set to deploy to Afghanistan what it says is a revolutionary airborne surveillance system called Gorgon Stare, which will be able to transmit live video images of physical movement across an entire town.

The system, MADE UP OF NINE VIDEO CAMERAS MOUNTED ON A REMOTELY PILOTED AIRCRAFT, can transmit live images to soldiers on the ground or to analysts tracking enemy movements. IT CAN SEND UP TO 65 DIFFERENT IMAGES TO DIFFERENT USERS; by contrast, Air Force drones today shoot video from a single camera over a "soda straw" area the size of a building or two.

With the new tool, ANALYSTS WILL NO LONGER HAVE TO GUESS WHERE TO POINT THE CAMERA, said Maj. Gen. James O. Poss, the Air Force's assistant deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. "Gorgon Stare will be looking at a whole city, so there will be no way for the adversary to know what we're looking at, and we can see everything."

Add this to the new grenade launcher that can shoot around and over obstacles and it probably isn’t a good idea to be an insurgent in Afghanistan.

The Birther Controversy—The Left Won’t Let It Go

For reasons clear to no one just yet, HAWAII'S NEW DEMOCRAT GOVERNOR, NEIL ABERCROMBIE, has gone public with his desire to silence the so-called "birthers" with proof of Barack Obama's Hawaiian birth.

"Maybe I'm the only one in the country," Abercrombie told the Los Angeles Times just before Christmas, "that could look you right in the eye right now and tell you, 'I WAS HERE WHEN THAT BABY WAS BORN.'"
A few days later, Abercrombie clarified to Mark Niesse of the Associated Press that HE DIDN'T EXACTLY SEE OBAMA'S PARENTS WITH THEIR NEWBORN SON AT THE HOSPITAL, but that he "remembers seeing Obama as a child with his parents at social events."

http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/01/will_obama_silence_blundering.html

This one is kind of like a witness testifying in court, “No, your honor, I did not see him on the night of the murder, but I did see him two weeks later.” I read one article that said Obama was born in the US, but he was born six months earlier than he says and that Barack Obama senior was not his real father. This may explain why he won’t release the birth certificate.

The 10 Most Underreported Stories for 2010

You won’t see the stories below in the pages of the NYT or on the screens of NBC. You won’t hear them discussed at the water cooler. They’re the stories that show without any doubt the cards held by those who wish to enslave the masses to the god of government. A theocracy, to be sure, but one that holds up the state above all else.

Each of these stories have been chronicled across the Bigs sites over the past year. THESE STORIES ARE WHAT PROGRESSIVES ARE TRYING DESPERATELY TO ERASE FROM THE ANNALS OF HISTORY, an effort that the new penny press, new media, refuses to allow.

1. The Pigford Case

2. Journolist

3. Ken Salazar lied in a report and fabricated scientists’ testimony in order to ban deepwater drilling

4. DOJ voter intimidation case and coverup

5. Hide the decline

6. Obama’s sagging popularity

7. The ever-growing power and influence of the tea party

8. The Unconstitutionality of Health Control

9. The FCC Internet powergrab

10. Voter fraud

This story is loaded with links and explanations. I highly recommend you read this and look at what she’s talking about.

And here’s another story you probably won’t hear about

The number of American adults calling themselves REPUBLICANS IN DECEMBER INCREASED BY ONE PERCENTAGE POINT FROM NOVEMBER TO 37.0%.

Also in December, the number calling themselves DEMOCRATS FELL BY A POINT TO 33.7%.

Those figures reflect the largest number of Republicans in the nation since December 2004 and THE LOWEST NUMBER OF DEMOCRATS EVER RECORDED IN TRACKING SINCE NOVEMBER 2002.

It’s the second straight month that Rasmussen Reports polling has found more people identifying as Republicans than Democrats. Prior to November, that had never happened before.

MSM isn’t motivated to tell you this. Of course it really doesn’t mean much until congress gets back into session and we see what the Republicans actually do. This is more a gauge of how badly the Democrat brand has been hurt in the last two years.
