Happy New Year

New Year's resolutions 'barely last longer than a week'

Many new year resolutions to quit smoking and drinking do not last long, new research shows

MANY PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE THE WILLPOWER TO MAKE THEIR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS LAST LONGER THAN A WEEK, RESEARCH REVEALS.

Attempts to quit smoking, stop drinking alcohol at home or eat healthier food WOULD BE FAR MORE SUCCESSFUL IF PEOPLE GOT SUPPORT, according to health campaigners Change4Life.

University of Hertfordshire researchers followed 2,000 people who made a two-week resolution and found that those who relied solely on their own willpower failed even before the half-way stage.

The study also found that JUST 30 PER CENT OF WOMEN STUCK TO THEIR GUNS, COMPARED WITH 37 PER CENT OF MEN. Researchers found that those who told family and friends about their plans were far more likely to succeed

2010 a disaster for Obama and the American Left

The political landscape still looks strikingly bleak for the “transformational president” as he goes into 2011. 2010 WAS A STUNNINGLY BAD YEAR FOR BARACK OBAMA, no matter how much the likes of The New York Times or The Washington Post might try to sugar coat it. Here are four key reasons why it was a year Obama will want to forget:

1. The MIDTERM ELECTIONS WERE A DEFEAT OF EPIC PROPORTIONS for the Obama Presidency

2. CONSERVATISM GREW INCREASINGLY DOMINANT in America

3. The LEFT LOST GROUND and engaged in a brutal civil war

4. The TEA PARTY BECAME MORE POWERFUL than the president at the ballot box

Declaring the end of 2010 as a victory for President Obama is like declaring the “miracle of Dunkirk” a great victory for France.

More airports look to dump TSA

Some of the nation's biggest airports are responding to recent public outrage over security screening by weighing whether they should hire private firms such as Covenant to replace the Transportation Security Administration. SIXTEEN AIRPORTS, INCLUDING SAN FRANCISCO AND KANSAS CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, HAVE MADE THE SWITCH SINCE 2002. One Orlando airport has approved the change but needs to select a contractor, and several others are seriously considering it.

The METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY, WHICH GOVERNS DULLES INTERNATIONAL AND REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORTS, IS STUDYING THE OPTION, spokeswoman Tara Hamilton said.

For airports, the change isn't about money. At issue, airport managers and security experts say, is the UNWIELDY SIZE AND BUREAUCRACY of the federal aviation security system. Private firms may be able TO DO THE JOB MORE EFFICIENTLY AND WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH, they argue

The personal touch seems to mean something different than the one we are getting from the government run TSA.

Global Warnings?

2008: James Hansen warns the UK

Hansen’s visit to London last week was partly inspired by the decision to approve construction of a new coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent.

This, Hansen wants to warn us, is a recipe for global warming disaster. THE RECENT WARM WINTERS THAT BRITAIN HAS EXPERIENCED ARE A CLEAR SIGN THAT THE CLIMATE IS CHANGING, he says.

2010: Reality sets in

BRITAIN’S WINTER IS THE COLDEST SINCE 1683 AND CLOSE TO BEING THE CHILLIEST IN NEARLY 1,000 YEARS.

Latest figures reveal that the average temperature since December 1 has been a perishing -1C.

That makes it the SECOND COLDEST SINCE RECORDS BEGAN IN 1659.

The chilliest on record was 1683/84, when the average was -1.17C and the River Thames froze over for two months.

James Hansen can no longer be taken seriously as a scientist. He has jumped the shark so to speak and it now nothing more than a political advocate.

10 Ways to Get the Most Out of Technology

Your gadgets and computers, your software and sites — they are not working as well as they should. You need to make some tweaks.

But the tech industry has given you the impression that making adjustments is difficult and time-consuming. It is not.

And so below are 10 things to do to improve your technological life. They are easy and (mostly) free.
