The Good Guys vs the Good Guys

We are seeing the democrats demonize BP. To be sure, BP's oil gusher in the gulf of Mexico is working against President Obama and by party connection any Democrat running for office. So they've painted BP as the "Bad Guy."

President Obama spends time with advisors so he knows whose "ass to kick," and it appears BP is the prime candidate. But the black and white story isn't as simple as it seems.

"While BP has resisted some government interventions, it has lobbied for tax
hikes, greenhouse gas restraints, the stimulus bill, the Wall Street bailout, and subsidies for oil pipelines, solar panels, natural gas and biofuels."

In fact, looking at the lobbying efforts of BP, it appears BP could easily rank as a good Democrat corporate citizen.

comprehensive immigration bill: Talk more like Republicans. They’re seizing on the work of top Democratic Party operatives who, after a legislative defeat in
2007, launched a multiyear polling project to craft an enforcement-first,
law-and-order, limited-compassion pitch that now defines the party’s approach to the issue. The 12 million people who unlawfully reside the country? Call them “illegal immigrants,” not “undocumented workers,” the pollsters say. Strip out the empathy, too.

Illegals in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts follows Arizona?

It's being reported that Massachusetts state senate is debating a law that would:

"The measure, which passed on a 28-10 vote as an amendment to the budget, would bar the state from doing business with any company found to break federal laws barring illegal immigrant hiring. It would also toughen penalties for creating or using fake identification documents, and explicitly deny in-state college tuition for illegal immigrants…

Democrats had resisted such a sweeping proposal, but spent last evening negotiating today’s measure"

It appears a new poll is out and 84% of Massachusetts citizens approve of this measure.

Can the President's popularity can survive the oil spill?

"I don't see how the president's position and popularity can survive the oil spill. This is his third political disaster in his first 18 months in office. And they were all, as they say, unforced errors, meaning they were shaped by the president's political judgment and instincts.

There was the tearing and unnecessary war over his health-care proposal and its cost. There was his day-to-day indifference to the views and hopes of the majority of voters regarding illegal immigration. And now the past almost 40 days of dodging and dithering in the face of an environmental calamity. I don't see how you politically survive this."

Was it only 18 months ago Democrats were talking about being in control of congress and the Presidency for a generation?

Do we need to save Teacher's jobs with another bailout?

Evidently Christina Romer and the Whitehouse thinks so.

"Yes, we all understand that our budget deficit is too large. Profligate
policies of the past and rising entitlement spending have created a mess that
simply must be dealt with as we return to full employment. But it would be
penny-wise and pound-foolish to deal with that issue by failing to allot
essential spending on teachers at a time when the unemployment rate is still
near 10 percent."

It is becoming more and more evident, that if you are working for the government you are in the privileged class. Higher wages, much better benefits and a Federal government that thinks you are essential and can't face layoffs.

Update: Have teachers brought it on themselves?

“It’s like we woke up one morning and the world had changed,” said Linda Mirabelli, a music teacher in Livingston. “We were liked and respected, and now, overnight, people have turned against us.”

How did it happen? That’s easy: One bad decision, one stupid miscalculation: An overwhelming majority of teachers refused to accept a pay freeze. They could have won taxpayers’ eternal gratitude, but instead demanded their negotiated raises and fought against contributing a dime toward budget-breaking health insurance benefits. Teachers could have pitched in, but they dug in.

And when you dig in, you end up in a grave.

Hoisted on their own petard.

Back when President Clinton was impeached there was some discussions of how he was being entrapped. The Paula Jones lawsuit went forward, but during the questioning of President Clinton, the subject went beyond Jones to Monica Lewinsky. The only reason Jones' attorneys could go there was because the Democrat Congress had passed a bill which let them and Clinton himself had signed it.

The Sestak allegations of being offered a job not to run against Arlan Spector is basically charging that someone in the Obama Administration committed a felony. It is against the law to do this.

Now to many people (myself included), this seems less like a felony and more like politics as usual. It is unseemly, but as is attributed to Otto Von Bismarck, "Je weniger die Leute darüber wissen, wie Würste und Gesetze gemacht werden, desto besser schlafen sie nachts." (translation: The less the people know about how sausages and laws are made, the better they sleep in the night.)
